I tried on 3 different SCMS free DAT decks and could not get a digital feed
out of my Sony DirecTV receiver. When I switched channels I could get a

I was able to get a digital signal but only out of my Replay TV unit which
was being fed via the analog outs on my DirecTV box. I know it would have
been better to have just run analog out of the DirecTV box into a converter
and then to DAT but someone had brought over a bunch of brownies about 45
minutes prior and the show was starting. Interesting thing was that I could
not pass the digital signal coming out of the Replay TV unit to pro or SCMS
free decks.
And while we are on the subject of HIFIs I prefer some of my older VHS HIFI
masters over most my early DAT masters. I always felt like a tool though
lugging my HIFI deck into a bar or club. Whenever a girl would look at me
funny I would usually respond with something like how VHS HIFI was superior
to cassette, cheaper than DAT and that this HIFI deck was great because I
could REALLY set levels with it and most HIFI decks could not. After chicks
heard that then they were like "wow you ARE a stud, want to come over after
the show?"

Far from ideal? Man speak truth. There are many things very wrong with this
setup like ground scheme, gain, eq, comb filtering, time-based eq and a
bunch of others that if left ignored will render a really bad sounding
product. Why not just plug the turntable into a receiver that has phono
inputs and take that tape out to the soundcard or CDR?

WHOOPEE!!
Go tape Camper Van Beethoven if you get the chance. Mic stands have
been allowed on this tour. At the Madison WI show they played 2 set
for a total of about 2:40, including the encores (but not including
the 20 minute intermission).
The current tour features 4 original members back together for the
first time in 13 years! I don't want to go ON and ON, but they're
playing really well, doing music from all their eras, and it's a show
to see. There was some talk that they would be allowing recording
this tour, but as it turns out, it's OPEN TAPING!! YAY!!!

Well, I *think* the reason some folks encountered a copy prohibit on
a direct digital feed of the Stones show is that the show was
broadcast in Dolby Digital surround (not sure if it was actually
5.1). I switched the setting in my DSS box to PCM out and got the
digital feed no problem.
If anyone needs a DAT clone (source: RCA DWD490RE DSS receiver>Sony
M1 via optical>Midiman CO-2>7 pin coax (Core Sound), drop me a line
and I'll do a few B&P (3-4). I'm working on start ids for the tracks
still. . .

Looking to see if anyone was able to get past the "can't copy" message I
got on my MD recorder when I tried to record this show off my digital
cable box. Maybe if I had my Sony M1 with me it may have worked but it's
back in New England and I'm here in Florida.
I got a decent analog show off my Onkyo receiver (RCA>MD) but am dying
to get a digital copy...anyone have one?
I thought the mix for this show was awesome...a great matrix sound.

well... getting a digital signal with _great_ levels and 48k sample rate
into my DA-P1. :) at first the levels were brickwalling, but i changed
the digital audio output selection ont he cablebox settings from "dolby
digital" to "other" and the levels are perfect. i woulda guessed they
would broadcast in 44.1, but 48k is fine with me :) go Cox cable!
