If a group, anybody know who is in it for the tour? It's a batch of four (I can't vouch for the quality as I have not listened to them): -Guns N' Roses Osaka 8/18/2002 "D100+Sanken COS-11 MasterDAT>DAT>DAT" 60m -Oasis Tokyo 9/15/1994 60m -Oasis Tokyo 9/16/1994 60m -Richie Hawtin + Kenny Larkin [Hawtin: Barcelona 6/19/1999] [Larkin: San Franscico 11/18/1999] both: "Real G2 64.7kbps>Mac G3 lineout > DAR100 90m I'd like four (4) 60m Maxells or Sonys. Thanks and happy DATing, Keith ------------------------------ From: "J R" Subject: VHS Vs. DAT / Analog Vs. Digital Date: Sat, 25 Jan 2003 11:53:51 -0500 Please, no lengthy debates of how some people prefer their humming, distorted, and lower quality sounding HiFi VHS tapes over today's superior DATs and CDRs. You are probably the same as those who say vinyl records sound "oh so way better than CDs. Their so warm and vibrant sounding" Yeah with all kinds of defects like scratches, pops and clicks that detract from the real sound and the enjoyment of the music. Those who prefer records over CDs grew up with listening to the pops and clicks and when they weren't there on CD, their songs just didn't sound the same anymore. CDs are made to make the music sound as it always should have. So you can hear like you were in the studio with the artist, without pops and clicks and humming noise. And as far as HiFi VCRs go, well they are on the way out. Just look at how many new and different kinds of home DVD recorders have hit the market in the past year. There are at least 5 times as many as the year before and at cheaper prices too. Plus DVDRs are also coming down in price. You know why, because Digital recording is superior to the analog recording devices. Even the movie theaters in the big city's are going with digital projectors instead of film. Give it up vinyl and HiFi fans, you're fighting a losing battle. You won't change the minds of those growing up in the digital age, things are just too clear and perfect. _________________________________________________________________ Protect your PC - get McAfee.com VirusScan Online http://clinic.mcafee.com/clinic/ibuy/campaign.asp?cid=3963 ------------------------------ From: Scott Goodwin Subject: VHS Date: Sat, 25 Jan 2003 12:09:50 -0500 Uhh...what exactly do you think DAT machines use for heads? ****************** >From: Tom McCreadie >Subject: Re: VHS - Stones >Date: Sat, 25 Jan 2003 09:06:11 +0100 >Yes the paper specs do look seductive but those machines had their shortcomings. >Firstly, the limitations of the rotating head assembly gives unavoidable >hum and buzz noise about 50dB down ------------------------------ From: marc pfisterer Subject: Been awhile & looking for BOC others Date: Sat, 25 Jan 2003 10:33:01 -0800 (PST) It has been awhile since I posted here. I just sold my dat decks as I don't tape anymore and I will be concentrating on trading CDR's now. My first question is there another list that caters to CDR trading only? If I don't have a deck anymore is it ok to post here looking for CDR trades? If it is, I am looking for some Blue Oyster Cult trades and other bands that I am looking for include Rush, Plastilina Mosh, Steely Dan, Aerosmith, Budgie, X, The Donna's and Black Sabbath. Email for list. Thanks. Marc __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Mail Plus - Powerful. Affordable. Yes - Schoeps! Schoeps mics are actually name-dropped. Most of the novel involves sultry romance, but just seeing the Schoeps brand mentioned made it worth the read. Alas, I can't remember the actual title, but I'm sure Diva-heads can advise... The information in the book regarding the taping techniques could be put into an FAQ, it's so brilliant! cheers Mike In a message dated 1/25/03 6:56:44 AM, DAT-heads-Request@datheads.phish.net writes: << If you have not seen it: DIVA is a French movie in which a taper is the central character. Editorial Reviews Amazon.com Modern noir meets high opera in the French suspense flick Diva. Delivery boy Jules has an opera obsession. He spends his small disposable income on sophisticated sound equipment and manages to bootleg a live performance of his favorite diva, Cynthia Hawkins (played by real-life opera singer Wilhelmina Wiggins Fernandez). But Jules is spotted making the recording by shady investors who want the tape. As if that weren't enough, a second cassette, filled with enough evidence to topple an international drug and prostitution ring, makes its way into Jules's mailbag. Writer-director Jean-Jacques Beineix does a terrific job of adapting Delacorta's pulpy novel for the screen, keeping all the excitement while adding a layer of depth. A movie to make even a dedicated opera hater appreciate a perfectly sung aria, Diva has enormous loft apartments, thugs galore, gorgeous visuals, and a corker of a chase scene. Watch it--and watch your back. --Ali Davis Enjoy! >> ------------------------------ From: "Dark Star Enterprises" Subject: Sony M1 vs. D100 Date: Sat, 25 Jan 2003 14:29:36 -0500 I am looking at getting another deck.....I know the main difference between the M1 and D100 is the use of SCMS but are there any other differences I should be made aware of? Thanks for the help ------------------------------ From: "Steven Weld" Subject: Stones MSG digital Date: Sat, 25 Jan 2003 14:53:24 -0500 Couldn't help but notice the discussion on the Stones MSG and most not being able to get a straight digital recording from the HBO broadcast. I did not have any problem getting a digital feed with my system. My receiver was set to PCM out prior. Others noted that it was in Dolby Surround and this was a problem for many. DirecTV/ Hughes GCEBO receiver>Optical digital out @ 48kHz>through a Fostex D-5 DAT in monitor mode to pass AES/EBU>Digital Audio Labs Card Deluxe>Cool Edit Pro2(resample at 999,highest rate to 44.1 kHz)>CD Wave>CDRWIN>Plextor PX-W4012TA @ 4x >CDR I did not save a copy of the original 48kHz file unfortunately. I assumed there would be thousands of digi copies out there so I didn't think it was a big deal. I do still have the the whole wave @ 44.1 pre CD Wave saved in my computer. I could go back out of my computer AES/EBU>DAT with that if necessary. I am going on vacation on the 31st but thought it would be good idea for me to share another digital copy the list. I would be willing to trade this for other HIGH QUALITY shows from this tour, or any "A" recordings from any period ONLY. I have the Chicago Aragon. I have the Philly Tower but it is TAO, could use a DAO of that. I can do DAT or CDR on pro equipment. I would also do a couple B&P's to people who would do likewise in return. I will try to answer all replies but if I get overwhelmed and you don't hear from me you didn't make it. Remember I'll be on vaca 1st week of Feb. so it might take a little while. I would like to thank everyone for their input on this topic. Peace, Steve Weld ------------------------------ From: Chris Bozzelli Subject: FS: DAP1 Date: Sat, 25 Jan 2003 18:16:14 -0800 (PST) Hey folks, Time part with my last deck. Just doesn't get used anymore. Here's the details: -Tascam DAP1, in flawless working order -cleaned, aligned, etc., by paul plotnik at pro digital in april of 2000 - ~260 hours on the heads - has had some of the rubber coating scraped off in a few small places on the top of the deck. This happened when my V2 got loose in a backpack and the metal front edge of the V2 rubbed against the deck in april '01. It's purely cosmetic, the deck still functions beautifully - I can supply pictures if needed. - One thing I want to make very clear, as it relates to the lifespan of the deck, is that it was never powered in the field by a 6 volt source. The deck needs 7.2, the interal batteries supply between 5.9 and 8.3. I used a 12volt battery with a 12v DC > 7.5 volt converter (which also functions as a voltage regulator, it outputs a steady 7.5 volts right up untill the battery goes out) I got about 6 hours straight off a (rather old) 12v 7 Ah battery. I would be happy to include the converter if you would like it. - I cut the AC adapter cable and inserted XLR plugs to allow me to use either my battery setup or the AC adapter. I can remove these if (for some reason) you don't want them. That's about it. Email me if interested or if you have any questions. Not sure what the going price is these days, I'd like to get $730 OBO. ~Chris __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Mail Plus - Powerful. Affordable.
