Hi guys,
I'm desperately searching for a copy of The Cure at Nassau
Coliseum July 9, 1996. I was there and would absolutely love
a copy for me and my friend. Any medium will suffice.
Have lots to trade, but only a handful of (good) Cure to offer.
Would also be interested in other live Cure.
many thanks,
Anthony

Royal Repis,
You misread my post. I am saying you _will_ have problems if you do _NOT_
use a battery box.
If you are using one, with the small mics, you should be fine. No, they are
not as good as a pair of full-size mics, but they do work amazingly well for
their size - at least my Sony mics do. I have no reason to believe any
other manufacturers would be different nowadays when the trend is smaller,
better, faster, etc.
I am not bashing anyone's product, just saying that the statement that a
battery box is _not_ needed is false
in certain (most) live recording situations. I do not have the knowledge of
who is in sales, who is a technical representative, or otherwise. I am an
electrical engineeer specializing in embedded controls for a living.
Although not an audio expert, I am educated in filter theory, digital signal
processing, etc. and I do know from my background and personal experience
what will and will not work.

I have a set of Core Sound mics with the Core Sound battery box, and have=
never had any problems when recording even a loud punk show. The Core S=
ound mic's that I have performed great, never had one problem with satura=
tion/clipping. And I was only 8 to 10 feet away from the stacks, and the=
band I recorded has a reputation for being one of the loudest punk bands=
in the state of Texas. I think Len's microphones are a fantastic produc=
t as far as miniature microphones go. I would think with all of the expe=
rience and background that Mr. Moskowitz has in electronic engineering th=
at he for sure knows what he is doing when it comes to making excellent m=
icrophones and mic accessories. The proof is in the product. Peace,

Hi folks! I'm on the hunt for any excellent quality live shows from Bobby King & Terry Evans. For those who are not familar with these two guys, for many years in the 70's, 80, & 90's, they were back-up singers for Ry Cooder, both on his albums & live in concert. In the past they have recorded their own material on Rounder Records.
I know for a fact that they have gone out on the road & done some touring. If you have any of their shows on cdr or dat, please contact me.
I have over 3,119 high quality entries on my list to trade!
Cheers!
Mitchell

Great post Tom! I couldn't of said it any better....
Time delay is the main issue when matrix mixing. I
don't really know how it is done real time...but I bet
it's expensive...
When I multi-track soundboard and audience sources, I
delay the soundboard when I get home. That way I can
zoom in and see the wav files.
At a small club like Quixotes the delay is .052
seconds, larger venues like the Gothic Theater the
delay .079 seconds.
Awww...that's nothing, right?
It makes a huge difference when you compare the
delayed mix vs. undelayed...

If you want to do it right, you use a delay circuit. The cost varies
(just like for anything else).

Subject: Unable to record digital audio from Echo Star box to D8
Date: Sat, 1 Feb 2003 16:30:27 -0500
*** NEWBIE ALERT ****
First posting to DAT-Heads...
I just got a Sony TCD-D8 and I am trying to record a digital audio signal
from my Echo Star Satellite Dish, but the D8 will NOT recognize the digital
signal and will NOT record. Need help. I phoned Echo Star but they are
clueless.
Here is the set-up:
I have an Echo Star Model 4700 receiver. Echo Star has a number of channels
that only play CD music. There is no video on these channels - only audio. I
am trying to make a digital audio recording of the music.
On the back of the Echo Star receiver is a Toslink optical-out plug that I
hook up to my home theater AV receiver. The audio signal from Echo Star goes
from the Toslink port on the back of the Echo Star 4700 receiver to
digital-in Toslink port on the back of my AV receiver. This hook-up works
fine. (I mention this to show that there is a signal coming from the 4700.)
I connected the Sony cable POC-DA12 (Toslink plug on one end and the 7-pin
connector on the other end) from the 4700 unit to the 7-pin port on the D8,
using the "IN" cable. Switched the DA12 to digital.
When I went to record the digital signal on the D8, I could hear the music
on the headphone monitor, but the D8 would NOT wind. It would not record. I
got no error messages either. I set the sampling rate to 32, 44.1, and 48
KHz and none of these selections made any difference. No recording.
I checked out the POC-DA12 cable by connecting the D8 to my CD player which
has a Toslink optical out. The D8 recorded a digital signal A-Okay.
I also tried recording an analog signal from my Echo Star receiver. I
connected the D8 to the 4700's RCA stereo phono plugs using the D8 "Line-in"
port. I recorded a fine audio signal - everything worked A-Okay.
So what gives...???
The Echo Star set-up has three audio signal selection options: (a)
Dolby-Digital/PCM, (b) Dolby-Digital only, and (c) PCM only. I tried all
three of these selection and none made any difference when trying to record
a digital signal. None worked.
Any ideas? Could it be that the Echo Star digital signal is NOT SPDIF?
Could there be a SCMS block that prohibits a digital recording?
Any ideas would be appreciated.
