Ok, the only posting I see for this show gives an indecipherable list of
email addies and notification that the offer is "closed" before even getting
a chance.....I REALLY, REALLY NEED to get in on this one somehow, as I've
been looking for years without success to replace the copies of my cassettes
that were stolen in the late 1980's.....can some kind soul who is in on this
let me in and help me replace what is probably my alltime favorite Dead
show? A 48khz DAT is much preferred, if it even exists among the tree, but
I'll be willing to settle for CD if necessary. Willing to B&P or trade or
offer it back up to the list or stand on my head or whatever it would take
to hear that version of TLEO again....note that I'm still in the middle of
moving, so my end of whatever it takes is gonna be kind of slow, but I'd at
least like to set it up and be assured of getting this GREAT show back into
my collection after all these years......
THANKS in advance,
john e. bogus

I have this unit, about 2 years old.
Used very little. I would say less than 100 hours record AND playback.
It is in mint condition. Works flawlessly with no problems.
Will part for $350. Please e-mail me if interested.

cd-media in return. Contact me if interested. Would be willing to split them
up somewhat within reason.

Does anyone have info about this microphone or experience using one (or two
:)
I just inherited one, and have been looking all over for info about it, but
cannot find anything except a few studios that list it in their inventory.
Even on the beyerdynamic web site, it is not listed...so i am assuming it
has been discontinued.
I know it is a dynamic, ribbon mic., but that is about it.
Thanks in advance for any info about this.

I have a DA-P1 with less than 50 hours on it for sale. I bought it a
couple of years ago, and never used it as my d7 and d8 run great and are
way smaller. I am buying a laptop to go 24 bit so I want to dump the P1.
I have the deck in MINT condition, a wall wart, and an extra plug for
making a 4-pin for external power without trashing your own wart. I would
like 1000 for it, I paid 1350 or something, I'll have to dig up the
recipts. Feel free to contact me off list for pictures/more information.

Clint:
Thank you for your two posts. As it turns out, the cable which I have been
using is in fact the same cable which was offered for sale on the eBay link
below - it is the Sony POC-DA12.
This cable has a 7-pin connector on one end and a (1) Toslink-out and a (2)
Toslink-in optical connector on the other end. I tried both the "in"
and the "out" plug. Neither worked.
Thanks again,

Paul,
Thank you for your message.
The sequence of steps as you describe in your post are exactly those which
I
have followed. Unfortunately, the D8 still does not record the signal.

There is no error message shown as I attempt to record on the D8.

I have selected the "PCM Only" option on the EchoStar Receiver and still
not
recording. There must be some other codes embedded within the signal the
confused the D8.

Yes indeed. The monitor signal I am hearing on my headphones are from the
head-phone jack of the D8.

What is a "category code" ?

As I mentioned, the D8 does record the analog audio signal using the stereo
RCA phono plugs.
However, correct me if I am wrong on this... as I understand the sequence,
in order to record the signal:
(1) The Echo Star box must first convert the incoming satellite digital
signal from a digital signal to an analog signal.
(2) Then, the D8 must convert the analog signal to a digital signal to
record the signal on the tape medium.
(3) Then, in order to transfer the signal from my D8 to my hard drive, the
signal must then be converted from digital to analog as I "play" the
signal.
(4) Then the PC sound card must then convert the analog signal to a digital
signal and ultimately saved on my hard drive as a .wav file.
By recording a digital signal on the D8, I was hoping to by-pass all of
these steps and get a cleaner signal.
Now you ask....! Hey, why not just run the analog signal from the Echo
Star
box right into my hard drive? The satellite box is in one room and the
computer is far away in another room. Alas...., the "Mrs" won't let me put
the two in the same room - hey what can I say? She is also tired of "...all
these damn cables..." all over the house...
Is there an email support group for spouses of DAT-Heads?

full power supply for it but was able to find a DCP-80 for battery charging
and DC power. I've never used the deck and am at least the 2nd owner -- I
ended up getting a DA-P1 before I could find the rest of the necessary power
parts to make it work. I'm hoping for $250-300 for the deck if anyone's
intersted. See it here:

Subject: diagnosing m1 problems

hi guys!
time to get my m1 tuned up, thought i'd ask for comments so as to provide
useful feedback to the techs...
(1) tapes recorded on the m1 playback on the m1 perfectly, but play
with dropouts on other decks = alignment problem in the m1 (as compared
to the others)? and that I need to worry about creating a bunch of unreadable
tapes (those recorded in the past N months) once I get the m1 realigned.
(2) cueing (ff/rw) problem with 90m tapes (but not 60m tapes) =
tape-tensioning problem (and another reason to avoid 90 m tapes)
(3) tape misfeed (unloads w/tape out of shell/broken tape) with 90m tape
after cueing (ff/rw) = same problem as previous, but worse symptoms?
(4) inconsistent tape-loading problems (insert tape, door seems to close,
but latch doesn't engage properly or latch engages but door is obviously
not closed properly = ? problem with tape-loading mechanism ?
or possibly related to the tape-tensioning problem (same mechanicals?).
thanks for any comments!
