Help Date: Tue, 04 Feb 2003 11:06:43 -0500 Hi, I thought this to be the best first step, coming here for some info... A friend asked me if I could copy a video disk he owns. AFAIK, it's NOT a dvd type of disk. It's a video on a disk. Is it safe to ASS-U-ME that I could just copy this as a data disk on my cd-rw? Any special s/w needed. He thought that there was one particular file that either had to be copied or moved in order for this to play. Any & all help appreciated. Be it 2 cents or web sites. TIA All the best, Jay ------------------------------ From: sybern2@email.com Subject: Tascam DA-P1 questions Date: Tue, 04 Feb 2003 11:15:30 -0500 Hello I'm new to this forum and am looking to buy a Tascam da-p1 DAT deck (field/live rec, backup/restore, extra ins for SPDIF audio rack). Would someone care to answer the following questions? I hope this is not a duplicate post. Thanks. - I want to also use the deck as a 'mixer' connected to my audio rack via analog and/or SPDIF (2 extra LINE/MIC inputs). Can you tell me: 1. Are the inputs driven to the LINE OUT and DIGITAL outputs for monitoring when deck is (a) in INPUT MONITOR mode (RECORD + STOP) (b) in RECORD READY mode (RECORD + PAUSE) (c) in RECORD mode (RECORD + PLAY) I don't think (c) can monitor the tape, because you need 4 heads for this and this deck has only 2 heads; but in -> out monitoring would be sufficient 2. are the LINE INs summed with the MIC/LINE INs, or are these inputs mutually exclusive? - can the da-p1 be used for computer-data backup/restore/archive, assuming an SPDIF in/out computer interface card is available? Are there any such relatively inexpensive cards available (preferably PCMCIA, I have a laptop), maybe with SPDIF I/O only? I have an Echo Mona audio rack but it's rather bulky for this purpose. thanks, Sy -- _______________________________________________ Sign-up for your own FREE Personalized E-mail at Mail.com http://www.mail.com/?sr=signup Meet Singles http://corp.mail.com/lavalife ------------------------------ From: "Carrington Crawford" Subject: Have extra 2/25 Philly taper; looking for 2/21 Cincy taper Date: Tue, 04 Feb 2003 11:55:17 -0500 ssia. Date: Tue, 4 Feb 2003 13:36:57 -0800 (PST) Hey now- For all of you out there who were buying the silver topped ritek CDR's that were being advertised on here a few years ago, I would advise you to extract the audio/data on them ASAP while you still can!! I bought a spindle of these back then, going through my collection last night I would say that at LEAST 80% of these are now showing SIGNIFICANT FLAKING and pinholing problems. (yes, that's right, 80% or 4 in 5 discs!!!) I am now taking the few survivors and EAC'ing them to make master SHN/APE/FLAC backups. Just a warning... Take care! Bakker" Subject: Re: Opcode DATport question Date: Tue, 4 Feb 2003 23:01:48 +0100 The opcode datport (or sonic port) can only be programmed under w98 because there is no program made by opcode for other operating systems. Once you have programmed it in w98 (samplerate and bits etc) you can use it under w2000 or xp as a normal usb audio device. the pop and clicks are known and are due to the way the usb port is implemented in the mobo. some mobo's I used give clicks some other mobo don't. it has something to do with a not wel regulated powersupply to the usb chips on the mobo. on my mobo dual pentium supermicro it does not click. there is an other thing : I noticed that transferring from dat to pc is ok. It puts the wav file without any click or pop on the hd. But playing the transferred wav file back over the datport spdif output to the da converter of a dat machine and listening on de analog output of the datmachine let you hear random pop and clicks. If you play back the wav file over a pci soundcard or over the in the mobo build in sound chip there are no clicks and pops ! At last there is a german firm that has made a special ( not freeware) asio driver for the datport. http://usb-audio.com you van download there a trialversion with a very loud beep every 10 seconds. But it works.! you need a key to let it work full. So I hope this information is some help for you. Onno The Netherlands ------------------------------ From: Kevin Slivka Subject: M1 for Sale... Canare has some excellent 75 ohm Coax cables/connectors available for reasonable prices. My question is do digital Coax cables make good: 1. analog interconnects? 2. sub woofer interconnects (longer)? Or does the coax cable cause some kind of filtering, etc, that make them not preferred for analog signals?
