D ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ From: Massimo de Majo <massimo@interbusiness.it> Subject: DVD -> DAT digital transfer? Date: Tue, 11 Feb 2003 01:41:52 +0100 hello everybody I've been lurking for a while and I must thank you all for the advices and tips I got from you guys. thanks again. I want to make a digital copy of the audio from a DVD to my Panasonic DAT SV-3700. The DVD player (of a friend of mine) is a top-of-the-line Sony with coax digital out, but I do not know if it comes out with a digital 5.1 channel signal or normal SPDIF. I could record the audio from the analog outs but I would prefer digital transfer... Any suggestions? thanks Massimo de Majo
From: "Robert O'Haire" <plummer@nyc.rr.com> Subject: Re: melted d8 battery sled? Date: Tue, 11 Feb 2003 14:15:52 -0500 I thought this was a fairly common problem...I've had this happen to me twice with both the D7 and D8. It looks to me like it is a heat-related problem that melted the plastic in the shape of the battery. If it were a leaky battery, it would be messy on the inside - corroded, acid residue, etc. Since I can't really see the inside, I can't tell, but it would be obvious to you. I do see an inside contact in one pic, and it looks perfectly clean - so I think you can rule out chemical breakdown of the plastic. Now, the question is - Why did the batteries overheat? I can't really help you there. If the batteries became shorted this could happen. For instance, in the case of an internal device (D8) fault. I have not heard of bad batteries themselves causing overheating, I suppose it is possible, but unlikely. How did the deck behave last time your friend used it? Was this caused by one-time damage or an ongoing problem? I would have the device tested for current draw / proper operation before buying a new sled, then finding out there is a bigger problem, and possibly ruining another sled. Do you have 2-AKG3000B's and 2-AKG1000's or just 1 of each? What are you using for phantom power for the AKG3000 mic/mics? Jason Brantley Sonic Sense 2755 S. Well, anyway, I'll suck it up in hopes that someone (most likely ANYONE) in this here group can help me out b/c the prob i'm having probably is really simple for all those who are quite experienced with DAT rigs. > > PROBLEM: As I said, I'm a newbie and recently acquired a rig--a TCD-8, AKG 3000B and AKG 1000 mics complete the rig. I went out the other day to get an XLR>1/8 inch adapter for the mics. I've been fucking with this thing ever since--i just get digital hiss everytime I plug in the 1/8" to the D8 with the mic plugged in and, for a second, the sound levels fluctuate making me think something is being picked up outside of the static of the 1/8" going into the D8. > > QUESTION: Can anyone out there tell me why this isn't working? And what I should do to remedy this situation/what I should get. It might be important to mention that the 3000B runs on phantom power. Any help is GREATLY appreciated, as I want to get this rig up and running very soon. Thanks in advance! -CB
From: Chris Huntley <datchrisguy@yahoo.com> Subject: More newbie questions Date: Tue, 11 Feb 2003 13:22:49 -0800 (PST) Hi everyone. I have a couple quick questions. I tried to find the answers before bugging the list, but couldn't find them. I recently purchased a used Sony M1 which I use for taping live shows. (Sonic Studios mics.) Unfortunatley, it came with no accessories and no instructions. My questions are: 1. Does anybody know of someplace I can find a complete instruction manual for this device? Perhaps on-line that I could download? (Barring this, would anyone be willing to photocopy and mail it to me if I reimburse the cost of copies and postage?) 2. It didn't come with a power adapter. It requires one that is 4.5v. I have an adapter from my Sharp Minidisc recorder that I used to use. It seems to connect properly to the DAT recorder, but is 5.0v. Can anyone tell me if there is any risk of damaging my DAT deck by using a 5.0v instead of 4.5v adapter? Thanks in advance for any advice. Cheers, Chris __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Shopping - Send Flowers for Valentine's Day http://shopping.yahoo.com
From: "James Ballen" <ballenjames@hotmail.com> Subject: cp-4 caps and info Date: Tue, 11 Feb 2003 16:27:01 -0500 Whats up everybody? I recently got a pair of tascam pe-120 condenser mics. These are identical to the Nakamichi cm-300's. I believe tascam, nak, and teac are all owned by the same parent company. anyway, I am looking for a pair of the cp-4 capsules, the "super directional" ones. All equipment and information on these seems to be pretty scarce these days. If anyone has some caps they'd like to part with, please do let me know. Also, if anyone can hook me up with any documentation either via website or paper about these mics, the caps, and/or the mx-100 nakamichi mixer that originally was made for these, please let me know. and does anyone who has used these mics know if they can be phantom powered rather than powered by the special 9.1 volt battery? Scouring the knowledge of DAT-heads really seems to be the best place to find information! thanks to all! ~jamos _________________________________________________________________ Help STOP SPAM with the new MSN 8 and get 2 months FREE* http://join.msn.com/?page=features/junkmail
From: TheSchoolNerd@aol.com Subject: Audio into a mac? Date: Tue, 11 Feb 2003 16:35:32 EST So what is THE easiest inexpensive program that allows you to "digitize" analog audio into a Mac Powerbook without adding a PCMIA card? Griffin Technologies sells an cheap device to do such a thing via USB Griffin Technology ; what do you guys think? From: Chris Bozzelli <c_bozzelli@yahoo.com> Subject: FS: DAP1 $625 OBO Date: Tue, 11 Feb 2003 19:12:36 -0800 (PST) Hey folks, sorry for the repost, but there were no takers the first time around and I've lowered my asking price to $625. Would love to get this sold (and don't want to bother with ebay), make me an offer if you're at all interested! Here's the details: -Tascam DAP1, in flawless working order -cleaned, aligned, etc., by paul plotnik at pro digital in april of 2000 - ~260 hours on the heads - has had some of the rubber coating scraped off in a few small places on the top of the deck. This happened when my V2 got loose in a backpack and the metal front edge of the V2 rubbed against the deck in april '01. It's purely cosmetic, the deck still functions beautifully - I can supply pictures if needed. - One thing I want to make very clear, as it relates to the lifespan of the deck, is that it was never powered in the field by a 6 volt source. The deck needs 7.2, the interal batteries supply between 5.9 and 8.3. I used a 12volt battery with a 12v DC > 7.5 volt converter (which also functions as a voltage regulator, it outputs a steady 7.5 volts right up untill the battery goes out) I got about 6 hours straight off a (rather old) 12v 7 Ah battery. I would be happy to include the converter if you would like it. - I cut the AC adapter cable and inserted XLR plugs to allow me to use either my battery setup or the AC adapter. I can remove these if (for some reason) you don't want them. That's about it. Email me if interested or if you have any questions. ~Chris __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! From: "Steve Smith" <whoisstevekimock@hotmail.com> Subject: Need help for VHS > DVD; with WOB Date: Wed, 12 Mar 2003 07:28:59 -0500 I have a rare videotape of an Austin band called The Reivers (originally known as Zeitgeist) that I would dearly love to get converted to DVD. I'd like to get it burnt to uncompressed DVD format (I am assuming stuff like VCD is compressed, right?), as this tape has had a little generational loss already, and I don't want to degrade the thing any further. Can anyone help me out with this? I'd be willing to send it to you with blank DVDs, B & P-style, plus whatever else you might like to make it worth your while (within reason...). To tell you the truth, I have a great Uncle Tupelo show on VHS to copy too... Thanks for reading - SS WOB tax: I'll take unlimited B & Ps for Caitlin Cary, Seattle 6/23/02, 1 CDR - email for details
