Thanks for the help, Dave ------------------------------ From: Jordan Shapiro Subject: iBook for sale on eBay! Date: Wed, 12 Feb 2003 14:03:06 -0500 First, apologies for the cross-post. I've got my iBook for sale on eBay. It worked great as a taping laptop and I sucessfully recorded about 10 shows in 24/48 resolution with it. I started using it for more everyday purposes, so I'm upgrading. It has some extra things I've installed including an Aiport (802.11b) card, extra RAM and software on disc included. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ViewItem&category=4602&item=3401250898&rd=1 Thanks for the bandwith! Jordan WOB: B+P Trey 8.2.01 Mann Center to the first 2 that email me! ------------------------------ From: "Michael B. Preferably a taper's ticket, but begger's can't be choosers. Will pay face and will either give you tapes of the show, give you a patch through my mic's or run your deck for you... BWT-1 digital (DAT) and 1 analog of this show (from either my source if I get in or from my buddies if I don't) to the first 2 different e-mails to: tapes-phish@wizardsvale.com DO NOT E-MAIL AT MY WORK ADDRESS if the address above says pencom.com... Thanks, Mike ------------------------------ From: "Darryl P. Hirschler" Subject: RE: DVD -> DAT digital transfer? Date: Wed, 12 Feb 2003 14:13:20 -0500 You can rip the audio straight out of the DVD using DVD ripping tools. You can find some tools (freeware) at www.doom9.org, or www.vcdhelp.com. Here are the basic steps, although there is probably a simpler way to get just the audio: 1. Use SmartRipper to rip the DVD. It will save as vob files. (DVD Decrypter might do it too) 2. Use DVD2AVI to save "project", not just the file. - one of the files will be a 48khz wav, the other will be a dv2 (dummy file which points to the vob files). - not sure how (or if) it handles DTS. A package like BeSweet might though. I've been meaning to try some of the other tools out because I think there is one that just rips the audio stream. If anyone has any luck, let us know. They are the new band fronted by ex Kula Shaker front man, Crispian Mills. They have played many UK dates, and are now touring Japan. Check out: www.felttip.com. Peak LE is also cool, but more expensive. Peak LE will recognize sound cards; however, for future expansion. Both will also do editing and both have some basic filters...Peak LE is somewhat stronger, here. ------------------------------ From: "Wayne D. Hoxsie Jr." Subject: Re: Does YMSB allow sbds?? These contrast the word lengths and sample rates quite nicely. All the details are available at www.sonicsense.com/downloads.htm You will need a soundcard with 24-bit/96kHz capability to listen to these files. We look forward to hearing your input about these. I would like to correspond with some one who tapes the shows or has tapes of them. Griffin Technologies sells an cheap device to do such a thing > via USB [... link to PowerWave ...]; what do you guys think? It seems like their iMic product ($35 list) would be a better fit for the job, based on your stated criteria. (And assuming your PowerBook doesn't have a mic input already.) The PowerWave would be useful if you had a variety of sources to digitize (e.g. cassettes, records), and may have slightly better sound quality (neither is likely to be stunning), but it looks like it needs a separate power supply, which would be inconvenient for portable use. For software, a nice, cheap (free!) program for simple recording is Coaster. It should work with any Sound Manager-compatible input device; I've no idea if it works with USB audio devices, but it should, at least under OS 7-9. I haven't looked into OS X options myself. ------------------------------ From: Jeff Holland Subject: Steve Earle Taping Experience Date: Wed, 12 Feb 2003 20:59:39 -0700 (MST) Got really shot down with excuses that the record label won't even let him sell CDs at the show. Was told no by staff that usually runs interference for me. -Jefferson ------------------------------ From: "john crouch" Subject: V3/MiniMe comparisons... Date: Wed, 12 Feb 2003 23:32:03 -0800 Here's an offer for the comparisons sent to me by Marc Nutter for all of you who aren't able to do the high speed downloads... OK so here's how the comparisons break down for these recordings. Comparison 1: Opening act "Global Funk Council" Direct Comparison of the MiniMe and V3 as standalone units at 24bit/48kHz One set of Microphones was used (MBHO603/KA200). The signal from these mics was split using a simple XLR splitter on each channel--one feed to the Apogee MiniMe and one to the Grace Lunatec V3 (Both units with phantom power applied). The Apogee MiniMe was hooked up to one Sony Picturebook via USB using a PCMCIA USB 2.0 cardbus. (24/48) The Lunatec V3 was hooked up to a separate Sony Picturebook via SPDIF out to the Nuendo Multiset/PCMCIA Card. (24/48) ******************************************************************* Comparison 2: Headliner "Oteil and the Peacemakers" Comparison of just the Analog to Digital converters (MiniMe and V3) with their respective word length reduction algorithms (UV22 and ANSR) at 16bit/48kHz Same mics and cables as comparison 1. In this case the V3 was used as the pre-amp for both rigs. The SPDIF out of the V3 went to the Multiset/PCMCIA card of one of the Picturebooks. A short pair of XLR cables went from the Analog out of the V3 to the Analog Input of the MiniMe (which was calibrated to match sensitivity of the V3 ADC). The USB out of the MiniMe went to the other computer as described in comparison 1. Let me know if you are interested in these, they need to be spread around, there has been some discussion on the sonicsense web page about what people think, thanks Marc for setting this up! They don't seem to mind as long as "it doesn't look too professional..." Handheld recorder and small mics are ok, you might face some problems if you show up with a big rig including mic stand and a long chain of stuff... My advice: Be there early and try to find someone to give you an official "ok".. Best, Karsten -- +++ GMX - Mail, Messaging & more http://www.gmx.net +++ Bitte lächeln!
