I'd really like to get a copy of this if anyone can tape it from WXRT;
this guy is really good, and there are very few live recordings of him
around. Or if anyone has any other good recordings by him, I would
probably be interested in them as well.

Does anybody know this guy? He's been selling Los Lobos, Cure, and
Counting Crows shows on E-Bay for the past few weeks at a steady pace.
I'm working through official channels to (hopefully) deal with him but
at least the LL stuff he's selling are shows that I recorded and were
made readily available through the usual trading channels, so I thought
I'd throw his name out and see if it rings a bell. If you know this guy
or or traded with him before, please be aware of what he's up to and cut
him off.

Saturday night I was driving in Seattle and caught about 10 minutes of this
show called "Piano Jazz" on NPR. Steeley Dan were the guest and they played
8 songs and had conversations with the hostess. Did anyone record this? Any
chance you'd hook me up?

Hello,
I'm traveling down to Texas from Pennsylvania for the April 6
Sleater-Kinney/Pearl Jam show. I plan on only taping S-K, considering Pearl
Jam releases their shows on CD anyway, plus I'm not really into PJ, my
friend is the PJ fan. I was just wondering, has anybody been to a show at
this place lately to tell me what I can expect as far as security? I know
larger venues here in the Northeast have been using metal detecting wands as
of late!
I plan on trying to get my TCD-8 in, I don't think PJ staff would mind at
all considering they release soundboards of their shows! And from what I
hear S-K is cool with audience taping but I don't have this documented
anywhere.
Bottom line is I don't want to get kicked out after traveling nearly 2000
miles for a show, but I also want to bring a nice memento back as well.
Please advise...
Thanks,
Eric

You might try buying a few new cassettes and moving the old tape into
the new shells. Probably best to stick with the same brand.

I am upgrading my rig so I have a pair of C1000's for sale. They are in =
great condition and still in the original box (although the boxes are a =
little beat up themselves) with all the accessories. I am selling the =
pair for $200. I also have a pair of shockmounts AT8415 (I believe) and =
a swivel t-bar. Taking offers for everything together. I took very good =

Does anyone have any experience with these products? I know the USB Edirol
will be slower than the RME (which uses the PCI computer interface) but I
like its portability and options to record directly to my computer through
the XLR inputs. However, my primary function is to transfer DATS to my
computer. As far as that goes, will both of these units provide seemless
digital transfers to my computer without any loss? If they do, can anyone
see any reason why I would not want to go with the Edirol UA-5 over the RME
96/8?
Thanks

Colin--
One of the things you might try is to apply one small drop of WD40 all-purpose oil on the center of the spool. I have saved a few cassettes like this. Another trick-- and you should practice with some duds first-- is to unscrew the cassette case and transfer the actual tiny cassette tape reels to a new cassette case. That's much trickier, but has proven successful in the past.
The WD40 trick has never ruined a tape for me yet, but it's only 1 small drop you need (you want the grease to stay on the plastic mechanism and not get onto the actual tape), then spin the wheels with a pencil eraser a few times to see how it feels before FF & RW and eventually play.
I wonder, though, how much damage can you do to the actual tape with some oil like that? I'm sure it's murder on the machine's heads.
Good Luck!

anybody run up front at LA or Vegas?
I had my KM140's in the sweet spot for Sunday Vegas show, and it turned out
great. Only one problem at the very start of Bowie I accidentally hit pause
and ended up missing a minute or so of the intro (started recording again
before the first verse started).
If anybody did Saturday (or Friday LA) I'd like to hear it, am willing to
trade my Sunday. Would also like to get a copy of the first few minutes of
Bowie from Sunday so I can splice it together with my own recording.
Sorry not open for general trades right now, just looking for other tapers
from LA and/or Vegas.
Thanks

Subject: All my Tapes Have Diginoise
Date: Tue, 18 Feb 2003 22:05:48 -0500 (EST)
Hi folks,
I recently got my D7 repaired and I am in the process of transfering my
dat's to cdr, but I am finding that most of my tapes have diginoise. It's
not just the old ones, but tapes recorded just before it broke down.
My deck is quite old and has had many problems going back to when it was
only a few months old. The motor is weak and it whirs and changes speeds
during ff/rw. Could the diginoise be the deck or is it the tapes
themselves? The deck wasn't in use for 2 years before I recently got it
fixed and it played tapes fine before it broke down.
The diginoise isn't always at the exact same place, but tends to happen
around the same general area, usually at or near the beginning. Is there a
chance these tapes will play in another deck? I only have the one, but I'm
considering getting either a DA-20MKII or R300 if I knew it would play the
tapes.
Thanks for any help.
