From: Mexminute@aol.com Subject: I.S.O. City & Venue Information Date: Fri, 21 Feb 2003 21:26:39 -0500 I was hoping someone could help me out finding some information. I just recieved a Jayhawks FM broadcast from Texas. It is dated 12/5/02, and it features a scaled down version of the band...only 3 members. Does anyone have the venue & city this performance took place? Your assistance is greatly appreciated! Thanks, Mitchell

Is that using analog or digital input? If digital, what is the next device up the chain, providing the optical signal? And how do you know there are not dropped samples-- testing audibly, or by actual file comparisons? Thanks for any additional details you can provide! -- Mark Mayhle mark@mayhle.com
From: "Chris Siegl" <senorplow99@hotmail.com> Subject: Zwan's policy Date: Sat, 22 Feb 2003 11:23:36 -0500 i have heard that zwan is taper friendly, but any ideas if they'll allow a board patch? -chris _________________________________________________________________ Help STOP SPAM with the new MSN 8 and get 2 months FREE* http://join.msn.com/?page=features/junkmail
From: "Steve Smith" <whoisstevekimock@hotmail.com> Subject: Nomad Experiences Date: Sat, 22 Feb 2003 11:52:24 -0500 Note that subject line: Not "what I think", but what I have DONE. >From: "Gary Davis" <g@hoxnet.com> >Subject: Nomad vs. D7: size & quality <snip> >Also, Sony's portable DATs produce studio-quality recordings, at >least through the line or digital input, What does "studio quality" mean? (answer: nothing) If you mean 44.1k/16 or 48k/16 digital recordings, the Nomad does it and does it very well. >never "miss a sample," False. I've heard dropouts and mysterious diginoise from DAT masters, and you have too. Rare, but happens. >rarely lose the whole recording (can't say never), It's happened to me with a relatively new, clean D8, more than once. It has not yet ever happened on the Nomad, in over 25 live recordings. I have a feeling it never will, although I can't prove it, which is a better track record than my D8. >record for 6 hours or >more on one set of batteries (and one tape in LP mode), The Nomad will record for 19 hours straight, and will record that 19 hours at 48k/16, something no DAT machine ever made will do. I have personally run a Nomad JB3 recording from my full rig in my living room for NINE hours on the internal batteries (2). If you like making LP mode DATs, more power to you. Tear 'em up. > and have >good VU meters. The VU meters on the JB3 are lousy, but A) usable and more importantly, B) completely unnecessary when used with a pre/A>D with meters. >I don't think the Nomad is even supposed to work that well, and if it >does someday, it will be in spite of, not because of, solid audio >engineering. (IMO) It's nice that you have an opinion (they're like a-holes, as the saying goes), but your opinion is at least as uninformed as the others people have posted of late. Listen to me: I have used the Jukebox 3 to record 27 live shows 2-4 hours in length over the last three months. I have never seen the power indicator on the thing below 33% in a concert setting (which is for only the first of the two internal batteries). I have used both the analog and digital inputs at different times and NEVER heard an audible artifact of ANY KIND EVER in any recording I have made with it. It works. Well. And one can dump a whole show three hours long to one's hard drive in less than five minutes. You're welcome to your opinions - I'm just trying to tell you that you are wrong, because I've been there, done that, and am very, very satisfied with the results. I'll be running the JB3 onstage for a number of Kimock Band shows in the next two weeks, in parallel with a D8 and laptop out of a UA5. I'll be offering the recordings for comparison when I'm done - consider yourself invited to see if you can tell the difference.
