You may want to make sure that you are not sharing an IRQ with another
device. That could cause problems. Also, make sure that you are using
the latest drivers, 3.80.
If you are sharing an IRQ you should put the card in another slot.

I taped the Foo Fighters back in December and I have to admit the security
was way more tight then I expected. Everybody got checked. I do not know
if it counts for every show.

This doesn't directly answer your question, but a lot of venues don't
allow backpacks these days. When I taped moe@Wiltern, they didn't
allow backpacks, but apparently my Pelican and light stand were fine.
For Phish@Forum, they only allowed backpacks for tapers. I'd recommend
calling the venue ahead of time and having a contingency plan (or two).

Looking for a deal on a used Denecke AD-20 (or Zefiro Inbox). Anyone got one
collecting dust? Got anything else that sounds good and can give me an
optical S/PDIF signal from an unbalanced input? The AD-20 seems to be the
best deal going in this niche. If it only included 48v phantom it would be
perfect. I have a PS-2 already, but combining the boxes would be nice. Let
me know if you have something or even a good suggestion for an alternative.
Thanks!

Hey DATsters-
I need some help concerning transferring to hardrive
of DAT's recorded at 48.
I am using Sony M1>Delta 2496 Audiophile
card>CDWAV>CDR
Any help/info you can give me would be greatly
appreciated.
* The only things I had transferred from DAT to my
PC, is stuff I recorded on my own DAT at 44.1, like
radio shows and band practice. They all sounded fine
after transferring (via 7 pin cable to delta 2496
audiophile card). The pull down menu option on the
record section of my CDWAV is/was set at 44.1
* Recently I picked up some tapes from someone on the
list (my first ones from someone else), and after
transferring them to CD, the talking in between
songs sounds incorrect, like the pitch is off (slow
and distorted). The master was recorded at 48 .
I didn't notice it as much on the music (although Im
sure it must be out of pitch as well), but the
speech by itself sounds strange.
Just enough that you think "that sounds weird"
To those using CDWAV, or anyone who familiar with this
issue, what am I doing wrong and how can I correct it.
Thanx in advance for your help-
Dave Toomey

Tim, I got back yesterday from a 3 city Toad taping trip. You should have no problems at all, but if for some reason
you do, ask for Joe Lyons. He works the merch booth, but is also the bands tour manager. You can bring all the gear
that you can handle to the shows, even a digi still camera using no flash (which is in contrast to what I originally posted
some time ago about camera use).

U2 will talk and perform on Good Morning America Wed, sometime
between 7am and 10am. (Typically bands are in the 8:30-9am
timeslot, sometimes with an extra song between 9:40 and 9:55am).

Gary also forgot to mention that the Apex AD-1500 in many cases can be rid of
its macrovision and specific region with an easy ROM flash.
The serial number must begin with A, B, C, or D and NOT "SV" and then its a
pretty easy thing to do. The serial number can be found on the outside of
the box on a small sticker.
And we'd also all make Gary happy.

I'm hoping another DAT-head has taped at the Lyric before. How was your
experience? I'll be making a road trip from NC to PA to see my late
wife's grandmother, as well as attend the Flecktones' show in Reading,
then going to the Lyric Theatre show the next day in Baltimore.
Email me privately, unless you think the whole list could benefit from
the knowledge in the archives.

I confess I've been giving some thought to stealth video, and I'm sure I'm
not the first person to whom it's occurred that many digital still cameras
will put out an NTSC video signal, which could easily be run to a
pocket-sized camcorder acting as a VCR. Would be interested in hearing
from folks who've tried such a setup.

Hello all,
I have found a place that sells Maxell data cartridges fairly cheaply (for the
UK anyway!), but I remember reading on this list that the tapes "shed". I take
"shedding" to mean that the oxide flakes off of the tape? Does anybody know if
this is still the case? If these would not be a good buy, then can anybody in
the UK recommend a place to buy 60M tapes from?
Cheers,

Subject: DAT newbie questions
Date: Wed, 26 Feb 2003 12:47:50 -0500
The folks at Oade tell me that audio-DAT, rather than DDS, should be used in DAT decks (all other things being equal, e.g. tape length), and I'm wondering if this is really true, given the wide DDS use in these forums. Is it mainly a $ thing (understandable, given that audio-DATs are pricey), or are there really DDSs of quality comparable to audio-DAT ($ and quality ARE usually related :-) ? E.g. Oade tells me that you can expect 5000 hours on da-p1 heads with audio-DAT vs. 500 with DDS; this seems a rather dramatic difference!
What about tape length? 60m is the max. recommended length, what are peoples' experiences with longer tapes (specifically, in a da-p1)?
Also, given that DAT is a dying technology, should one start to hoard blank DATs? What is the shelf life of a DAT?
Apologies if any of these Qs are answered in the dat-heads' FAQ.
regards,
Sy
