From: "Ethan Alpert" <ethan@audio-crusade.com> Subject: DAT2WAV ?/observation + CTD8000 config ? Date: Wed, 26 Feb 2003 11:53:11 -0700 Hey All! Thanks to everyone who sent me suggestions on SCSI cards. I got a 2940 for 7 bucks! Finding a 50pin SCSI cable was harder and more expensive :0 WRT DAT2WAV: Is there a potential for buffer underun type errors when writing /WAV2DAT? The reason I ask is I've been testing my drive since I got it and now that I have my Audiophile 2496 AND my CTD8000 I have two ways to do bit accurate transfers. So I ripped a DAT using the CTD8000 and my old transfer of R500 > 2496 method and compared the wavs (CoolEdit/ivert/mix patse) and got exact copies. Next I wrote a DAT on the CTD8000 and read it on the R500 and the CTD8000. In both cases there are a couple of glitches. At the time of writing the dat, I was hammering on my system pretty good (web site browsing and possibly a shorten session). Are my glitches related to system load? Did I underun some DAT2WAV buffer? I'm going to do another dub later and see if leaving the machine idle makes a difference. WRT CTD8000 config: On a related note what do people recommend for jumper and system configs for the CT8000. I already figured out that I need compression off if I want to back up SHN's ;) What about SYNC data? What about Disconnect? I pretty sure auto insert notification is a good idea. I seem to have got better data transfer rates with SYNC off but could this affect AUDIO writing? Anyone know anything about switch 6 (DDS pass through?) If I've disabled compression should I enable this? Thanks, -e

From: Keith Bode <t.tunakebo@verizon.net> Subject: Re: BB King taping Date: Wed, 26 Feb 2003 12:58:24 -0800 Without checking, I can all but guarantee the taping a BB King show is not allowed. I have seen him numerous times between 1972 and 3 or 4 years ago, and never saw a mike stand. I've seen numerous shows of major blues artists, and to my knowledge none allow taping. The only blues artist I can think of that may allow taping is Alvin Youngblod Hart. Keith -- If you love animals, check out www.wotwild.com. Contact me for sale through 2/10/03. From: "Bill J" <johnwil1@hotmail.com> Subject: Live Recording> FM Date: Wed, 26 Feb 2003 16:45:45 -0800 I'm working at my college radio station now. It's volunteer but you get to be a d.j. so that's cool. The format is commercial free. Here's what I'm posting for: I've only been taping for about a year now. I have lower end gear so my recordings are (subject to interpretation) average to below average. I'm trying to collect some good stuff of all types of music to put on the radio. The broadcast range isn't very far and there is no webcast. I guess I'm asking for anyone who would want to share some live stuff (radio quality) for broadcast. While I personally would prefer entire shows (pretty greedy...aren't I), I will heartily accept just a few tracks or even one song if that is all I can get. I could do this via b&p or trade. Almost anything is welcome. Not that it matters really but I can give you credit on air (by name) if you wanted such a thing. I'm not going to post genre names. Rather...if it isn't TOO commercial...I'm up for it. (that's the station's deal...they want to provide a broadcast of material that isn't necessarily found on all the other stations) Thanks _________________________________________________________________ STOP MORE SPAM with the new MSN 8 and get 2 months FREE* http://join.msn.com/?page=features/junkmail

From: "chris evans" <chrvans@hotmail.com> Subject: FS: Apogee 500 Rev E w/batt system & cables Date: Wed, 26 Feb 2003 17:55:58 -0700 For Sale: Turnkey Apogee ad500 setup. Supply mics, a preamp (or phantom power supply/line transformers) and a dat deck and you're ready to roll. $400 plus shipping. Setup includes: Apogee AD500, serial number 00001 (!). This unit has been upgraded by Apogee to revision e specifications. (EMAIL ME ON SPECS IF NEEDED/Manual included). Also included are: a) a 12 volt SLA battery system consisting of: 1) a 7.2ah 12 volt powersonic sealed lead acid battery, terminated in a 4 pin xlr connector 2) a 5 ah 12 volt sealed lead acid battery (radio shack) terminated in a 4 pin xlr connector 3) a powersonic charger. This charger is the 2 stage model that will rapid charge the battery to a full charge and then trickle charge/moniter the battery once it's charged. b) a 15 pin > 4 pin xlr connector to provide power to the ad500 c) a 1 meter canare aes cable> canare pulse transformer. This cable provides a spdif signal from the ad500's aes digital output. d) a "cage/box" cover for the ad500 custom crafted from durable home depot metal shelving. Seriously, this cage, while rather crude, allows the ad500 some well-needed ventilation space, protects the front panel knobs from being inadvertently jostled, and provides stress relief to the unit's back panel xlr connectors. This ad500 instantly and consistently locks to the appropriate sample rate and has always run like a champ. Reason for selling -- bought a modsbm-1 -- can't justify the ad500 and battery around any more. From: Sean Cartwright <scartwri@rochester.rr.com> Subject: Transfer problems Date: Wed, 26 Feb 2003 20:09:51 -0500 Hey Dave, I had the same trouble when I started. You need to set the MAudio software to 48k and you need to set the CD Wave software to 48k (you get this option when you click on the record button in CD Wave, it's in a section of the screen that pops up). Once you've recorded it, you have a 48k recording that won't go to CD. To get it to CD you need to convert the sample rate from 48k to 44.1k. That too can be done in CD Wave but I didn't like the results too much. There's a program called Cool Edit 2000, you can get it at their web site (ww.cooledit.com, or something similar... do a search on Cool Edit Pro and you'll find the website). You can use the software free for 30 days. You can buy a stripped down version for about $60. That version is good enough to do the rate conversion. there is other software out there but Cool Edit 2000 seems to be the "best bang for the buck" IMHO. Let me know if you need any more help. Peace, Sean
From: Delano <digital-taper@comcast.net> Subject: Phish 3/1/03 tapers Date: Thu, 27 Feb 2003 00:41:15 -0500 I have decided not to add to the probable chaos in/around the taper's section at the Greensboro Phish show. I was hoping to pre-arrange a trade from someone with excellent taping prospects. I am hoping some taper will have the chance to view my lists before the show (before you get really busy). The last time I counted, I had 8500+ hours from over 600 artists. Please check my list and contact me if you can help. Thanks in advance. Take Care, Delano http://www.geocities.com/digitaldelano/

From: Keith Bode <t.tunakebo@verizon.net> Subject: FS: 3-3 head analog cassette decks Date: Thu, 27 Feb 2003 01:02:02 -0800 I have 3 more 3 head analog cassette decks than I need. 1 is in Brand new condition, 1 needs a Capstan motor, and 1 is for parts. Here is a description f the 3 decks from best to worst. Deck 1: Denon DRM-700 3 head, 3 motor deck. I have 2 of these. I want to sell one. The one I'll sell is in virtually brnd new condition. It has less than 50 hours on it, and is in the original box with the manual and original styrofoam caps. I am keeping one of these decks. I never had a Nak, but after having a pair of these Denon's, I don't have any desire to. The only feature I've seen on a deck these don't have, and I didn't use it when I had a deck with it, is Dolby S. I've transferred music on DAT and CD to cassette's on this deck, and I honestly could not tell the difference in sound quality between the cassette and the original digital recordings I copied to them. Also with a 3 head deck, I can monitor the recording while it is being done. I could not tell the difference in the sound quality, and others could not either. Asking $80 plus shipping by Fed Ex ground, r by a more expensive methd if you want to pay for it. Deck 2: A Sony 3 head deck. I can't remember the model number, and it's all packed away. The deck is nice, but it's got a squeaky capstan motor. Everything works, the playback and recording are fine, all the lights, switches and everything else works perfectly. If you are handy at this kind of repairs, you could probably have a good 3 head deck for cheap. Make me an offer. Deck3: Sony TC630ES. This was a good deck. It is also an eBay horror story. The case is bent, the aluminum face plate has a slightly bent face plate, and it arrived in a box with no damage and the seller tried to tell me it was shipping damage. This deck looks like someone dropped it out a window onto a concrete sidewalk. The case is bent in one corner. It does not play properly. The sound is all muddy, but it sounds like it's the right speed. I think the heads and everything else is knocked out of alignment. All the switches, motors, level indicators, heads, and circuitry are all functioning properly, but it would be a real stretch to say this deck would be good for anything but parts, but I bet there ae some very usable parts, worth good money to someone who does repairs. Sooner or later. Make me an offer and shipping And I am keeping a Denon DRM-700 for doing transfers. I'd like to get a decent Reel to Reel deck. if you have one you'd like to sell let me know. I'd like to get both 10" reel and 3 3/4 ips to 15 ips capability, but I don't think I can get all that in one deck. Keith

From: "john e. bogus" <mallness@surfbest.net> Subject: stealth video.... Date: Thu, 27 Feb 2003 09:42:05 -0500 In digest #656, Mark Mayhle writes: "many digital still cameras will put out an NTSC video signal, which could easily be run to a pocket-sized camcorder acting as a VCR. Would be interested in hearing from folks who've tried such a setup." I'd be interested in hearing all about this one too, and I'm sure others on the list also would! I know that the cameras have a "firewire" output that would seem to plug right into the corresponding input of a DV camcorder, but don't they "time out" and shut off after being on for a time but not taking a picture? Wouldn't they eat batteries pretty quickly in this mode? You wouldn't be able to zoom the camera, and it would be difficult to find a way to aim it, but this IS excellent food for thought.....hang the camera around your neck, get right in the front row, and it WOULD make a GREAT method of stealthing video in small clubs or venues where security is tight. How about a "security" type of lens assembly, or disassembly of an inexpensive camera to disguise the lens as a shirt button or decoration on a hat? Anyone tried this? Seems like this is a thread that certainly merits further discussion on the list..... Thanks for the posting, john e. bogus PS- For those of you who have had trades in process or lined up with me and are still waiting, I thank you for your continued patience.....my move is almost complete, but I got delayed again by more problems with my x-wife....I'm currently in the sorting and unpacking phase of what I've already moved, and trying to figure out where to set up the stereo.....I expect to be operational again within a month.....
From: "Thomas Avallone" <tav2367@msn.com> Subject: AUDIOSLAVE Date: Thu, 27 Feb 2003 15:18:19 +0000 Anyone have ANY recordings from Audioslave yet ? And is there anyone PLANING on taping them ? I taped Chicago 2/26 and I plan on trying to get away with recording tonight (2/27) as well. Security at the venue is TOUGH. Lineage: SSdsm6/L > Mod2 > D100 > U24 Waveterminal The only flaw: I missed the first 30-45 seconds of the opening song. Its a very short set: 75 minutes, so no need to bring anything higher than a 60m/120 min tape. DAT to Audio cd or SHN. Looking ONLY for other Audioslave or Chris Cornell shows I need.....ESPECIALLY the Portland show from his solo tour.
