From: "Wade Cooper" <digitaldank@hotmail.com> Subject: ISO: Jacob Fred & Sector 9 Date: Tue, 04 Mar 2003 09:07:27 -0500 Did anyone reading this post tape Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey and/or Sound Tribe Sector 9 shows last month in Baton Rouge, Dallas, or Austin? Jacob Fred opened the shows, with Sector 9 as the headliner. I would be very interested in a DAT or SHN trade or b&p, especially Dallas, where it appears as if no one taped. Maybe stealth? Maybe you know someone living in those areas who might have taped? Please let me know, and thanks for the space. Date: Tue, 4 Mar 2003 10:09:04 -0600 >>>>I have seen people using preamps at the sound board I 've seen sources like this: SBD > Lunatec V2 > DAT SBD > preamp > DAT How come people are doing this? What are the advantages or disadvantages? =================================================================== i've done it simply just to get the XLR inputs to patch in a D7/D8..... or to get better A/D conversion from something like a V2 over the internal A/D on the Sony the disadvantage is always that it's another device to deal with - but more often than not you'll want to use something inbetween the SBD and a plain old DAT, esp a D7/D8......
From: david@insight.rr.com Subject: Bon Jovi Bounce Tour and Dead SV3500 Date: Tue, 04 Mar 2003 11:17:57 -0500 Been travelling a bit and taping several shows from the current Bon Jovi Bounce tour, done 5 so far with 3-5 more this month. Would like to trade for the shows we didn't get. Have State College, PA - Columbus, Ohio - New Jersey (both shows) and Chicago, all other US and australian shows welcome, got the whole Japan tour covered as well. My venerable Panasonic SV3500 may be dead, it shows "cleaning" nearly constantly and no amount of using the dry cleaner helps, if anybody can point me to a FAQ on wet cleaning this puppy, I would like to give it a try before buying a new deck. BWT: free (no return CDRs, nada, really free) to first 5 folks each, please respond with "FREE" in subject header. Aerosmith : cleveland, Ohio 9/12/02 2CDRs Kid Rock : columbus, Ohio 6/21/02 2CDRs (headlining) Sammy Hagar: columbus, Ohio 6/11/02 1CDR David Lee Roth: columbus, Ohio 6/11/02 2CDRs thanks Dave

For a band that allowed anything except SBD last tour (video, audio etc.) I'm still bringing my stand and going to try and talk to Dave, one of the guitarists to see if I can get hooked up. You can never get a good answer from venues here. I got a no response for Zwan, QOTSA, O.A.R., Melvins and Clutch all bands that allow taping. From: "Brian Sleeman" <bjsleeman@hotmail.com> Subject: CDR Tree Announcement: Monte Montgomery "Acoustic Whirlwind" Date: Tue, 04 Mar 2003 17:47:39 -0500 Okay people, it’s finally here; thanks to great artwork efforts on the part of Jack Rogers and administrative work by Frank Babing, this tree is ready to go! This is for branches *and* leaves – basically, if you want in through any capacity, now is the time. This is for a Monte Montgomery compilation I put together entitled “Acoustic Whirlwind.” It consists of half original material and half covers, with a slight edge to Monte originals. All sources are crystal clear soundboards recorded from shows performed in Texas between 1999 and 2002. It’s spread out over three 80-minute discs to give you four hours of music. Monte is the kind of artist you simply must hear (and preferably see live) to believe – he can play anything from mellow Cat Stevens and James Taylor to well-arranged pop such as Lindsey Buckingham’s Fleetwood Mac to full-bore Stevie Ray Vaughan and Jimi Hendrix classics, and he does it *all* on an amplified Alvarez Yairi acoustic guitar. Monte's original songwriting is also extremely well-crafted and arranged; and I'll bet his originals are what stick in your head longer than many of the covers. Setlist information and artwork is included on the sign-up page, but here’s a quick list of the covers it includes: Cinnamon Girl (Young) Northeast Texas Women (Ramsey) Silver Wings (Haggard) Pinball Wizard (Townsend/The Who) World Turning (Buckingham/Fleetwood Mac) Romeo & Juliet (Knopfler/Dire Straits) King of Dixie (Elskes) Wild World (Stevens) Easy (Richie/The Commodores) Landslide (Nicks/Fleetwood Mac) Stairway to Freebird (Page/Plant/VanZant/Montgomery) Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald (Lightfoot) Dukes of Hazard Theme (Jennings) Superstition (Wonder) Rich Girl (Hall/Oates) Oh Well (Green/Fleetwood Mac) Little Wing (Hendrix) I promise you will have not heard anything like this man before, and it’s a crime that not more people know about him. He’s rated as the number one undiscovered guitarist in America by Guitar One Magazine, has appeared on Austin City Limits and Texas Music Café, opened for Bob Dylan (and got raver reviews), and played with Sonny Landreth, Malford Milligan, and Charlie Daniels among many others. Another attractive quality about Monte and his band is how humble and down-to-earth they are; they’ve all got a great sense of humor and a real appreciation for their fans. If you think three discs is too much to invest in someone you’ve never heard before, check out the mp3 clip I put together on the tree sign-up page for a three-minute taste of what you can hear on the set. You can get all the information, the mp3 clip, full setlist, performance credits, artwork, and the registration page at the following URL: http://www.neil-rocks.de/mm.html The deadline to sign up is Monday, March 10, at 12:00 pm noon eastern time. I’ll be bold enough to say that this may be some of the best music you hear this year. You will not be disappointed! If you have any artist-specific questions, please feel free to email me. From: Joe Penczak <jpenczak3@comcast.net> Subject: newbie needs help Date: Tue, 04 Mar 2003 19:49:41 -0500 Greetings and salivations.... I just picked up a second-hand M1, have read the manual a coupla three times, and was wondering a few things: I'll be recording (I hope) the King Crimson show at Town Hall on Thursday (tho the venue is tight on security, at least they were when I snuck in my MD for Nektar last year). Do I use the manual recording level or automatic? I have a pair of CoreSound Binaurals, and front row balcony seats. Do I record on a 120m tape at 48 or 44.1 (I'll be transferring the results to CD, probably through a Gemini PDM-18 mixer to a stand alone burner)? Or do I use the lp mode? I don't figure them to play for more than two hours...... and the following week I'll be taping Kelly Joe Phelps (should be a much quieter show) at the Knitting Factory. There may be a chance of a soundboard hookup. The kit I bought did come with these thingies that look like they are for connecting to a board (sorry - a real newbie to DAT's, though not stealth taping). Anything I need to be concerned about? Joe

From: "zach" <zach@funkytulip.com> Subject: Motherboard S/Pdif input Date: Tue, 4 Mar 2003 20:54:23 -0700 I'm looking at upgrading my computer with some new components. Does anyone have experience with motherboards with onboards SPIDF? Specifically it uses 6channel AC 97 Audio. The board has both input and output integrated unfortunatley on optical connectors :-( even more specifically the mobo manual is here: ftp://ftp.spacewalker.com/Manuals/en/fb51/fb51en.zip If this is a viable soultion.....has someone hacked in a Coax (rca style) connector on a motherboard in the past? I've modded my Zoltrix Nightengale to accept coax, so my guess is that I can do the same with this motherboard....that is if it's a viable DAT>computer solution. I would ideally like bit perfect transfers. The DAT-Heads archive search yielded nothing concrete....BTW when did the search interface change??? It doesn't seem to produce the same quality hits as in the past. Peace, Zach
