I just transfered to shn/cdr my master recording of Soulfly.
Great show, thank God I was standing close to the stacks but safe from the
mosh pit :-)
Being a unidecker, I can't clone on dat, so if you can live with cdr/shn,
email me for a trade.
ciao

other recent or upcomming shows. Anyone get the show last night in Atlantic
City? The Richmond show was a killer. DAT or CD

Subject: newbie advice appreciated
Date: Sat, 08 Mar 2003 08:37:24 -0500
Thanks to all who e-mailed me privately about recording on my M1 for the
first time (King Crimson at Town Hall Thursday)
In spite of the rigorous security, I managed to sneak in the goods thusly -
got there 15 minutes before the purported show time, when the crowd flocking
in would be significant. I brought two soft leather briefcases - one a
leather laptop case with my work laptop in one compartment - and the goodies
tucked in another - when asked to open, I unzipped the laptop piece and
said, "this is my laptop and this other bag is my personal stuff", trying to
get him to spend more time on the other bag, whcih had a cd walkman,
headphones, the Village Voice with a girl squeezing her nip on the cover
(talk about diversionary tactics!) and
although he asked twice "No cameras or recording devices right!? I'm not
going to go thru everything...". I lied twice and got the stuff inside.
Had to set up what I could in the bathroom then hide it in my lap under a
raincoat (fortunately it was snowing) until the show started. Brought the
Minidisc and an extra set of mics just in case I blew the DAT recording.
I used 44.1, the -20 (I had to use my portable -20 attenuator on the MD),
the CoreSound mics with the bass roll-off filter set to flat (which
basically means just the plug-in power), and the manual setting at around
whatever - too high at first but then so it came to -12 , -10 ish for the
most part.
Except for a 20 second oversaturation on the levels on the first song while
I simultaneously started the MD, the DAT, adjusted the levels, tucked the
excess tangled cord inside my shirt and tried to view the level on the dat
in the semi-dark while mean ugly father-rapin' security-cum-crimso-crew
stalked the aisle right in front of me, all was recorded. They played for an
hour 35ish - so all fit one one tape. Good thing, as the MD disc swap didn't
work (nothing came out on the second MD - I didn't want to risk getting
caught and lose both media). But the opening came out fine on the MD, so
I'll either patch it in from there, or jiggle the output handle so-to-speak
when I transfer the DAT to CD.
Tight performance - though somewhat too similar to the Beacon show end of
2000 in terms of song selection. Excellant bit o Fracture. Screeching Belew
guitar, surgical Frippertronics.
Don't have pure digital transfer capabilities...and haven't listened to the
whole show yet - so mind your manners and give me a few days to sort it out
(I'm also in the middle of a large analog (Cassette) to CD transfer of some
neat old Roy Harper shows from the early 90's, so I may not get to the Crim
for a week.....
thanks again for all the advice - glad I joined the party.....

Hey All,
I still have the following gear for sale. I'll entertain reasonable offers.
1) Neumann BS48i-2 Phantom Power Supply unit. This unit was used to power
both my KM184's before I bought my MP-2. It's in excellent condition but
does have some extremely minor surface scratches. The unit comes with
Original box, owners manual, & belt pouch. I will also include custom made
input & output XLR cables.
2)Hucht MKII SCMS stripper. I had this in the middle of 2 home DAT decks
prior to going to a computer based system. Mint Condition, works perfectly.
E-mail me privately if interested. Thanks

Well, I got it working now, I unplugged both ends and flipped the cable
around, and plugged it back in.
It works fine now. My suspicion is that one of the ends was not fully
"clicked" into the plug. Doh!
I am still wondering if you can notice any difference with and without music
playing, since the red light comes on as soon as the deck is powered, even
if no music is playing. I am afraid to unplug it and check it out
now...maybe later...thx, Dave

Date: Sat, 8 Mar 2003 08:52:49 -0800 (PST)
I'm looking for anybody who taped the King Crimson 3/3
Birchmere show in Alexandria, VA where Adrian Belew
was too sick to play.
So instead, Fripp opted to play as a three-piece
(Fripp, Gunn, and Masteletto) performing a ProjeKct 3
type set. Mostly, it was all improvised according to
an ET newsletter review. After the only hour-long
set, Fripp conducted a Q&A session with the audience.
Needless to say, this would be a GEM of a show to have
and quite an interesting one to hear, too!
I can trade the 3/1 KC Atlanta for either this or the
3/4 (next night Birchmere). But I would PREFER to get
the 3/3.
I read that during the Q&A, Fripp even did an excerpt
of Fracture (from S&BB) to the uttter delight of the
audience.
PLEASE email me off-list if you or somebody you know
has this.
Peace and Krimso,
Brian

I will try a new digital cable (SP/DIF), but wondering if anyone has

Tracy is a folkie who is very cool with audience taping. You should ask her
prior to the gig and be respectful. She's not giving out board patches as
it's too much of a hassle for the soundguy. I saw her (and recorded her)
with Richard Shindell last night here in Madison and it was SUBLIME. If you
dig acoustic music, mandolins and fiddles, get her on tape:) Her tour
schedule is posted at www.tracygrammer.com and be sure to send her a

1. a set of oktava mc012s w/ matched cardoid and
hypercardoid caps. purchased in dec of 2002, mint
condition. i'd like to get $400 + shipping for them.
2. denecke ps-2. purchased used in jan of 2003,
excellent condition. i also have a 9.6v rc battery
and charger to power the unit, much better than using
9v batteries imho. looking for $120 + shipping for
the ps-2, battery, charger, and cable.
3. hosa mit-176 line transformers. purchased jan of
2003. i'd like to get around $25 + shipping
4. various radioshack cables and adapters to go from
dual 1/4 to a stereo mini. used to connect the
transformers to my d100s line in. how about $15 +
shipping.
everything is in excellent condition, i used this rig
about 5 times. i'm upgrading (gotta love the upgrade
bug) to a set of akg480/ck61s and want to sell off my
old stuff so i can put an mp-2 behind them. i'd liek
to sell the whole lot together, but i'd be willing to
break it up if needed. the prices for the individual
parts are listed but i'm willing to sell the whole set
for $550 and cover shipping. i'm taking offers for

i get rid of the mics first. feel free to contact me

Well after buring countless coasters including a lot of BNP cd's turned into
coasters I think I need to ask this question:
Has anyone experienced this when burning cd's? I use ez cd creator, maybe
that is a problem?
Many times this happens while I am doing other things on my computer. Is
this related to overworked memory while burning? Maybe the burner is getting
tired, it's see a lot of cd's but it says output device? Any help would be
lovely, I'd offer a BnP for the Bandwidth but I am afraid my burner would
eat your cd's!! Aloha, JOHN
