A friend of mine who is just getting big in the local scene, and asked me
advice on what mic she should get when she is doing her solo-sessions in her
bedroom. She is recording with just a Mini-disk and the mic and her guitar
and her voice in her bedroom. what do you guys all suggest?
I record shows with AT831 mics, but i don't think they are the best for this
situation. i think one of those mics with a stand and is about the size of a
twinky, right?
Any suggetsions/comments are very appreciated.
Good times!

There is no cable that you could use to do this conversion as mini-DV uses
MPEG-2 encoding on the video and audio stream. If you're camera does not
have inputs (which sounds very strange), then you need an external device
to do the encoding for you.
As I see it there are two options. If you have a computer with firewire,
then all you need is to get one of the $50-100 video capture USB
devices. I believe you can capture the video to the computer and then
write it out via the firewire interface. Depending on what video software
you have, you might have to purchase one.
The other option is to buy a dedicated analog to DV format
converter. These start around $300 and go up.
If you're looking for recommendations, I suggest you hunt around on the web
for a few video forums, as I don't keep up with all the latest
equipment. As an example, though, Canopus offers two solutions that look
interesting. The first is the ADVC-100 Analog to DV (and the other
way). I believe it can be used standalone, but you should check. It's
priced at $299. For strictly computer use, they offer the ADVC50 Media
converter that only does analog to Digital, and is priced at $200. Canopus
is pretty well regarded, and many people have used them without problems,
but I do understand there are circumstances where they can have serious
conflicts with specific computer components (specific chipsets and/or
firewire controllers).

Subject: DPA 4060 vs. 4061
Date: Mon, 17 Mar 2003 13:29:05 +0100
Hi there,
I'm about to upgrade to DPA 4060's, but I'm not sure if it might be better
to take 4061's instead.
Since I usually tape club shows from very close to the stack, I'm wondering
if the 4060's might overload. I've never had any distortion problems with my
CSB's, not even when used head-in-stack at very loud outdoor festivals, and
even though Core Sound's Len Moskowitz assured me the 4060's wouldn't clip
either, I would still like to hear from people who've actually used them in
such situations.
The main reason why I want the 4060's is because of their low selfnoise (23
dBA). I would like to use them for home recording applications (acoustic
interuments, mainly guitars) as well as for taping shows.
Any comments appreciated!
Thanks
Christian

BY FAR the easiest way I've found to cut a DAT show into tracks is
with the sector boundry features of shntool. as shown in this URL
http://mtdshn.home.mchsi.com/macosxshn/shntoolsplit.html.
Oh, the hours I spent dividing the early tapes with cut & paste in the
audio program ...

i got a dvcamera with no analog IN, but has dv in/out,
is there way to get it so i can go from the vcr into
the camera? like a set of cables that have the three
analog plugs on one side and minidv on the other or
some kind of convertor to go thru?
thanks
i think you'll need to have the camera set to VCR, not camera - the setting
you use to play your tape back. use the AV I/O and a three RCA to mini plug.
at least this is how i think it works with the sony trv series.

Hello Heads,
If anyone's recorded Mike Smith's Rock Engine, please contact me for a
trade. I have a MD master from BB King's 3-16-03
Thanks PC. Mike's the lead singer from the 60's DC 5, for those of you
who don't know. The set consist of R& R standards
peppered with old DC 5 ravers, and a guest appearance by Little Steven
on the encore. Thirty five years out of the limelight haven't
diminished his great voice." Catch him if you can."

A first-class converter for recording, mastering, and post-production. Take your digital recording system to the next level with the addition of the DA9624. This converter bridges the gap between analog and digital equipment with transparent audio conversion. True 24-bit resolution is the best way to record and process all the detail the human ear can hear. The DA9624 supports sample rates of 96kHz, 88.2kHz, 48kHz, 44.1kHz, and 32kHz.
Multiple connections for flexible operation.
The DA9624 receives input through professional AES/EBU and consumer S/PDIF(coaxial and optical TOSLINK) connectors, and it delivers analog output through XLR and 1/4'' connectors for interfacing with balanced or unbalanced equipment. A front panel headphone output provides a convenient way to monitor audio levels.
Finishing touches make all the difference.
Easy-to-read, 20-segment LED ladders show you exactly where to set I/O controls for optimal D/A conversion. Rack the DA9624 next to the AD9624 using a Lucid RM-4 rack mount tray, or use the DA9624 on its own for your specific interface requirements.
Stereo D/A conversion at samples rates of 96kHz, 88.2kHz, 48kHz, 44.1kHz, and 32kHz
Separate headphone volume control and front panel output
True 24-bit resolution using high-precision converters
Digital input via AES/EBU (XLR), S/PDIF (coaxial), or S/PDIF (TOSLINK) connectors
20-segment output level LED ladders

Looking for $1050 for the pair but I can negotiate. These are in great shape
having spent most of their life inside a hat. Selling them because I don't
need 3 sets of Schoeps capsules sitting around :)

Greetings All,
My TCD-D7 is starting to produce some very eratic results. Looking for
advice on where to have it serviced. Does Pro Digital in PA work on the
smaller portables like the TCD-D&? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
