Does anyone have any experience with ADK mics (http://www.adkmic.com/)? I'm particularly interested in the 51 TL set which have 4 polar patterns and can be purchased new, with shock mounts for $998 a pair. I've heard a few folks make claims that they're just as good as a high end Scheops, Neumann's and AKGs. Can this be? Any info appreciated - thanks! -rob.

I find it very doubtful that it had anything at all to do with the
brand of tape.
I've used Sony DDS tapes with great success for years now... My theory is that
the tape somewhere along the line got flipped... 180 degrees, and the backing
side instead of the magnetic side got flipped against the head drum/assembly...
I've had this happen to me a few times as well... and like the man
said... the best
policy seems to be... record a little bit... rewind and listen to
what ya got, and
then queue it up again for the real thing...

They're good, but really sensitive:
1) they distort easily, so you'll need a battery box
2) to my ears they pick up an unnecessary amount of crowd noise

Bon Jovi - London, England - 1/19/03 DAUD 198 minutes (I am looking for the venue for this show, as well as any other information for this performance).
Rod Stewart/Jeff Beck - Seattle, WA - 1984 SBD 88 minutes (I am looking for an exact date, as well as the name of the venue where this show was performed. The one thing I do know, is that on this tour, Jeff Beck only played with Rod Stewart on 3 shows....this being one of them).

birchmere relaxing the anti taping policy is very very good news indeed,, but i'm still wondering about the no stands thing,, i once thought of trying to sneak in my gefells and just prop em up on the table or something in a towel or jacket,, (i don't have any stealth mics),, but i was running late and blew it off,, the way the place is, you could set up a mic stand and have it no higher than head level and get a great sound, i may just rig up something i can set on a table that sits a foot high or so like a small lamp stand,,
now if only iota would follow suit and allow taping, i still think that iota is the least taper friendly place ever,,
as for the sony dds tapes, this is disturbing news, i've long loved my sony tapes from masterpieceav, guess i have to start reshopping, having otherwise unexplainable blotches in my tapes is driving me nuts
