I'm trying to track down someone who can record the following Los Lobos
show:
3/27/03 Wheeler Opera House, Aspen CO
I can get you on the guest list+1 for this show if you can make it and
record it for the archives - please get in touch with me if so. You can
find info on the show, venue etc. on my website:
http://loslobos.setlist.com/tourinfo/03-27-03tourinfo.html
I'm also looking for folks that are planning to catch the other two LL
Colorado shows that weekend - I already have the guestlist quota filled
for those two but still would like to know who's going to be running
what at those shows and can get word to the crew that you're coming to
minimize venue hassles. Here's the other two dates - drop me a line if
you'll make these:
3/28/03 Fillmore Auditorium, Denver CO (the Jayhawks are opening)
3/29/03 Mesa Theatre & Pub, Grand Junction CO

if you're going to the show on Saturday and plan on taping...let me know.
I'll be there running tape too. I'd like to try and get any/all tapers in a
sweet spot to try and cut down on the crowd. I guess this only applies if
you're on the floor too.

Subject: misloading DAT tape

I've experienced the misloading tape in my D7 a couple of times too. The
suggestion to record a little bit of audience noise just before the show to
check if the DAT records well is only helpful if you manage to do this less
than 2 or 3 minutes before the concert begins. A D7/D8 goes to sleep
automatically after not pressing any button for a few minutes... Once it
goes to sleep the tape unloads again, which means that when pressing the
''record'' button as the show begins chances are that the tape might misload
after all. The only way to prevent this is to press the ''pause' button
every minute or so to keep the D7/D8 awake.
Just my 2 euro cents.

I'm on a fairly tight budget and running AKG-C1000s straight into a D8. The
results are good enough for now given what I've paid for it, but the
microphones are not matched and one channel is always louder than the other.
What is the best method to normalize the two channels independently so that
they both come up to the correct level? I'm using SoundForge -- is it as
simple as only selecting one channel at a time when I normalize, or is this
going to cause other problems?
Also, recommendations for the best use of my money for the next step up in
recording quality would be appreciated.
Thanks!
Dave.

I'm particularly interested in the 51 TL set which have 4 polar patterns and
can be purchased new, with shock mounts for $998 a pair. I've heard a few
folks make claims that they're just as good as a high end Scheops, Neumann's
and AKGs. Can this be? Any info appreciated - thanks! -rob.

Please note:
I have this drive as a backup tape drive and have not tried the firmware
update yet (so please don't email me and say "does it really work?")
When I installed it, I had problems writing to the drive. Sony tech support
told me to remove the SCSI cd-rom I had from the SCSI chain. There is some
conflict with cd-rom drives on the same chain. Once I took the cd-rom
off the chain it worked fine.
If you have a plextor burner on the same chain, you may also experience
problems.

I'm happy to finally offer up Season Two of the complete Smothers Brothers
Musical Guests Anthology (9/10/67 through 3/10/68). Season Two fits on three

trade.
I'll do a B&P to each list I send this to (b&ps must promise to reoffer) and

Dwight Yoakam is doing some acoustic "Almost Alone" shows in theatres
this
spring. Tickets for his show in Des Moines, IA on Saturday, April 19 went
on sale today. This is a good to great sounding hall, and at the moment,
there are some great taping seats available!
The venue has some "box seats" right at the front of the balcony, and most
of the box seats have at least one open seat in the front row of the box--
this would be right at the edge of the balcony, a very nice spot for
taping.
Tickets are $35 and are available online at
http://www.tix.com/Event.asp?Event=2996
Pick the "select tickets" option and you'll get a clickable map where you
can select seats in the boxes (or anywhere else).
There's a great Asian restaurant a stone's throw away, and Saturday night
should be convenient for anyone coming in from out of town. Oh, and if
I've enticed anyone to tape, would you spin me a copy? ;-)
