Really hoping to find a good copy of the show at the 9:30 Club in
Washington DC, last week, but I would also probably be interested in other
good quality recent shows.

I am looking for The Allman Brothers at Beacon Theater on
March 20, 2003. I was there with my equipment, but not at all
successful at taping due to the battery trouble.
I do not have ABB tapes, but I have March 21 Television at Irving
Plaza and March 22 Ringo Starr at The Bottom Line. And I have a
lot of rock/jazz/classical/world music shows that took place in Tokyo
area.
I am also looking for Masters of Indian Music: Shankar & Zakir
Hussain concert at Town Hall, NYC on March 22.
Hope someone will help me. Thanks in advance.

Subject: Mike Smith & Wesson
Date: Sat, 29 Mar 2003 09:38:09 -0500
Hello Heads,
Here's a tale of recording woe. I recorded Mike Smith at BB Kings, then
I did a dumb thing. I posted to his discussion group, thinking I'd
connect with other fans that may have recorded some of his other shows
for trade. Apparently, this was a bad move. Here's the response I got
from the moderator.
>>I am taking your posting off the board as it was strictly forbidden
to record Mike's show at BB Kings. That was his instruction. If he sees
your post he will not be pleased .
I replied, "ok, take my posting off the board." Then I received another
e mail from the moderator with the following notice:
>>Mike Smith just phoned us and he has asked us to pass this message on
to you. He would like you to please remove the B.B King recording from
your site and not advertise it or distribute it or trade it. He is
unhappy that the show was recorded and is prepared to take legal action
to ensure that the recording is not made available. If you have any
doubts, you should contact his agent,TCI Artists.
email@tciartists.com
<mailto:email@tciartists.com>
Believing that the pen is mightier than the sword, I unsheathed my pen
and unleashed the following fury upon my adversaries:
>>"I'll comply. Now you must provide me with written assurance either
from Mike or his management, that no such action will be initiated
against me. Fair enough? You're naive if you think others are not going
to be out there recording Mike after such a long absence. How many may
have recorded his Letterman appearance? I guarantee you it won't be long
before it starts making the rounds among collectors. How's Mike or TCI
going to police that? How many others possibly recorded the BB King's
show? I'm going to need some official assurance that I'm not targeted
should anything
else surface.
To reiterate from my posting to those I thought were true DC 5 fans,
I've been a fan since the band originally hit the big time.
I bought all the records, watched all the Ed Sullivan appearances and of
course, bought the History of the DC5 CD. I also
made the pilgrimage to NY to see Mike. My purpose in recording was to
have a momento of the concert, not to pillage the coffers of TCI or Mike
of the millions of dollars they're going to loose if my recording goes
public.
I understand that were my recording to get into the hands of some
despicable, unscrupulous bootlegger, it may appear on
e bay for $25. Trust me, a true fan would catch it and shut that
profiteer right down. People like myself who record shows,
do it for personal edification, love of the music, and the desire to
spread the artist's fame around, free of charge. Now, more
than ever, many bands/artists are clued in to this and encourage this
service by their fans. Mike, is TCI promoting you for free?
Who's keeping the artist alive, the record companies, the agencies? On
the contrary, it's the FANS! Why doesn't TCI go after them for their
complicity in all the drug related casualties they financed over the
years, while either joining in or looking the other way, rather than
biting the fan(s) that feed them?
What about loyalty to an artist? Again, the record companies, the
agencies? Right! The envelope please... It's the FANS!
I haven't dropped the DC5 or Mike Smith from my roster for 40 years! My
reward is a threat of legal action for recording
a show? How pathetic! I hope TCI hangs in there with you for as long Mike.
Finally, Mike, my apologies. I'll remove your performance from my trade
list immediately, and give you my word that I'll never circulate it.
Also, with regret, I will now remove your act as well as any other TCI
act from my roster, and will no longer support you in any way.
How does it feel loosing a life long fan through threats and intimidation?"
I'm back. I've been collecting for nearly 40 years, trading and
recording seriously for about 15. This is the first time anything
like this has ever happened to me. I've got to tell you, it feels like
I've been shot in the back! "I'm in pieces, bits and pieces."
Almost makes me want to hang up my rig and ride off into the sunset. :(

Subject: taping equipment for sale
Date: Sat, 29 Mar 2003 12:49:47 -0500
Hey all, I have the following for sale:
pair of Earthworks SR71 microphones in rugged tubes w/ mic clips - $450
(discontinued from Earthworks)
Sound Devices MP2 preamp with 4-pin power cable - $550 ($650 new)
pair of 15' XLR Monster Interlink 500 cables - $75/pair ($100/pair new,
barely used)
Shure A27m vertical stereo microphone t-bar with light stand adapter
pre-installed - $50 ($75 new)
Bogen/Manfrotto 14' light stand - $50 (worn condition, a few dents but still
100% functional)
Eco-charge 6v 7.2AH dual-output battery with charger, 6v and 4.5v power
cables - $140 ($189 new)
I'll sell the whole lot for $1200 shipped, no questions asked. If there are
no takers on the whole lot in a week (by April 2), I'll start to sell the
individual pieces. I'll accept money orders or personal checks (held 7 days
for clearance) ONLY. Basically all you'd need is a DAT or MD deck to record
to cuz I'll even throw in a mini-to-mini cable and you have a fully
functional taping setup.
I'm not into recording anymore, really no time, and I want to have fun at
shows. I'm still keeping my DAT deck because I still have tons of masters
and I may still want to tape some SBDs or patch. All of the equipment listed
above is 100% functional. Truth is, I'd rather have a laptop.
Email me at fighterfoo@attbi.com if you're interested. I don't check the
boards much, so chances are, if you reply here, I won't see it. Thanks!
