Thanks to DAT>CDR transfers and a little downloading, I've got about 25
extra DATs I no longer need. They're mostly Dead w/ some Bromberg,
Allmans, Van Morrison, Son Volt, and Warren Zevon thrown in for good
measure. E-mail me for a list if you're interested.
Oh, I'm looking to trade for blank discs (Fuji's or other Taiyo Yudens
only), but I could be persuaded to trade for some CDRs that actually
have some of that nifty music stuff on them.
BWT: Richard Thompson 6/22/97 solo acoustic S:D>CDR, two discs w/ 1/84
filler - gratis (just give me your address). If you don't hear from me,
you didn't get it.

Dar's management does not allow taping. Here is the response I received

Hi Greg,
Unfortunately we do not allow taping at Dar Williams' concerts. While we
understand it is for your personal use only, it is not something we are
comfortable with as it is important to us and to Dar that the quality of any
recordings of her music be the best possible representation of her and her
work. You might enjoy her recent live album, entitled "Out There Live," if
you don't already have it. I think you will find it's an amazing live
recording.
Thanks for writing!

Sorry for the long post to come... Mike Watt's new band "The
Secondmen" adds Hammond organ to the Bass-Guitar-Drums
lineup, and (the one time I've seen them) starts the show with
some really odd interpretations of obscure Madonna songs.
If you've ever enjoyed Mike Watt, here's a chance to see him with a
guarantee you will *not* hear exactly what you've heard before!
Watt is very taper friendly (all forms of taping incl. sbd and video).
If he doesn't always tell the venue, you will usually see him hanging
around outside the venue before the show, and he will take care of
you. (Don't expect a sbd mix to be very good, however, as these
are very small clubs).
Here is the message from Watt:
people,
tomorrow, april first, is d. boon's birthday,
much love to him. it's also the first gig for
this next watt tour:

Subject: WIN XP cdrw advice
Date: Tue, 01 Apr 2003 07:23:29 -0500
I recently built a new system using Win XP but the Sony CDRW that I put in
seems not to be compatible with Win XP (despite the win xp drivers
provided). I checked WinXP's HCL (hardware compat. list) and not many
Plextor drivers are listed. Well, I need to replace a cdrw in a friend's
system (he bought a system made of generic parts) and wanted to try to
avoid any incompatibility headaches. Their spending limit is rather low,
so can anyone recommend a brand/model of CDR/CDRW that is fully compatible
with WinXP (that I might be able to find relatively cheaply)?
I know that WInXP has some feature called "drag and burn" - is
burning software required/advisable using WinXP? Are the usual software
tools such as MKWACT, CDWave compatible with XP?
Are there any obstacles that I need to be aware of and need to
avoid? Any/ all help appreciated!
Thanks!!
Take Care,
Delano

Hey Now!
Not sure where else I could pose this question....
so here goes.....
I am in the market to get an Eclipse in-dash 6-disc CD changer
Model 5962 for my truck.
Does anyone on the list have any info on this CD changer?
I have heard that there have been troubles w/ the discs getting jammed.
I don't plan on playing more than one disc at a time, so I am not sure if
this would be an issue...(?)
Does this changer have any problems playing CD-R's?
Any help would be Gratefully appreciated!
Thanx!

I saw this on Stereophile... Does anyone else think this is rediculous? As
if the sound at most rock concerts isn't bad enough...
http://www.stereophile.com/shownews.cgi?1607
begin excerpt -->
To add a watermark in real time during a live concert, Tachibana
proposes a new composition method he calls "sonic watermarking." "In
this composition method," says Tachibana, "the sound of the audio
signal and the sound of the watermark are played separately by two
speakers, and the sounds are mixed in the air. Using this composition
method, it would be possible to generate a watermarking sound in a
concert hall, so that the watermark could be detected from content
recorded by audience members who have recording devices at their
seats."

Date: Tue, 01 Apr 2003 17:25:49 -0600
Hello DATheads,
I need a little help. I rec'd a nice 48K DAT of a Rush item a couple years
back, and while migrating it to CDR and making a cover of this
vinyl-sourced item, realized it's probably from 14 Feb 80 Kiel Auditorium,
St. Louis--but which permutation of that show is it?
This is how it is labelled on the DAT:
03/29/80 Rush, Kiel Auditorium, St. Louis, MI [sic]
Limelight/Tom Saywer/Xanadu/Beneath.../Closer.../By-Tor.../In The Mood
It is 47 minutes in length, probably FM>tape>Vinyl>48K DAT, and doesn't
seem to match up with any of the other versions of this show I've seen
everywhere.
Help me out here, you Rush-heads.
