While we understand it is for your personal use only, it is not something we are comfortable with as it is important to us and to Dar that the quality of any recordings of her music be the best possible representation of her and her work. You might enjoy her recent live album, entitled "Out There Live," if you don't already have it. I think you will find it's an amazing live recording. Thanks for writing! Mike Watt's new band "The Secondmen" adds Hammond organ to the Bass-Guitar-Drums lineup, and (the one time I've seen them) starts the show with some really odd interpretations of obscure Madonna songs. If you've ever enjoyed Mike Watt, here's a chance to see him with a guarantee you will *not* hear exactly what you've heard before! Watt is very taper friendly (all forms of taping incl. sbd and video). If he doesn't always tell the venue, you will usually see him hanging around outside the venue before the show, and he will take care of you. (Don't expect a sbd mix to be very good, however, as these are very small clubs). Here is the message from Watt: people, tomorrow, april first, is d. boon's birthday, much love to him. it's also the first gig for this next watt tour: mike watt + the secondmen playing the songs from the illness piece, "the secondman's middle stand" on the "the cord that spun its own top" tour 2003 now you can help watt get the word about his next tour, go to: http://hootpage.com/hoot_thecordthattour2003.html if you got the time and/or inclination, it'd be very kind of you to help get flyers around letting folks know I'm coming to work the towns, the dates are right here: tue, april 1 - old ironsides, 1901 10th st., sacramento, ca - (916) 443-9751 wed, april 2 - w.o.w. hall, 291 w. 8th av., eugene, or - (541) 687- 2746 thur, april 3 - blackbird, 3723 ne sandy bl., portland, or - (503) 282-9949 fri, april 4 - crocodile cafe, 2200 2nd av., seattle, wa - (206) 448-2114 sat, april 5 - picadilly pub, 620 w. pender, vancouver, b.c., canada - (604) 682-3221 sun, april 6 - b-side, 230 w. riverside, spokane, wa - (509) 624-7638 mon, april 7 - neurolux, 111 n. 11th st., boise, id - (208) 343-0886 tue, april 8 - liquid joe's, 1250 e. 3300 south, salt lake city, ut - (801) 467-5637 wed, april 9 - fox theatre, 1135 13th st., boulder, co - (303) 447- 0095 thur, april 10 - paramount, 331 sandoval, sante fe, nm - (505) 982- 8999 fri, april 11 - brewster's, 715 s. polk st., amarillo, tx - (806) 342-0682 sat, april 12 - club clearview, 2528 elm st., dallas, tx - (214) 939-0077 sun, april 13 - stubb's bar-b-q, 801 red river rd., austin, tx - (512) 480-8341 mon, april 14 - rudyard's, 2010 waugh dr., houston, tx - (713) 529- 3984 tue, april 15 - parish @ h.o.b., 225 decatur, new orleans, la - (504) 529-2624 wed, april 16 - handlebar, 319 n. tarragona st., pensacola , fl - (850) 434-9060 thur, april 17 - beta bar, 809 railroad av., tallahasse, fl - (850) 425-2697 fri, april 18 - orpheum, 1902 republica de cuba, st. petersburg, fl - (941) 504-0283 sat, april 19 - the social, 54 n. orange, orlando, fl - (407) 246-1599 sun, april 20 - jack rabbits, 1528 hendricks av., jacksonville, fl - (904) 398-7496 mon, april 21 - cumberland's, 26 cumberland st., charleston, sc - (843) 577-9469 tue, april 22 - senate park, 931-b senate st., columbia, sc - (803) 254-3302 wed, april 23 - 40 watt club, 285 w. washington st., athens, ga - (706) 549-7871 thur, april 24 - hi-tone, 1913 poplar av., memphis, tn - (901) 278- 8663 I have to go back to cali during this period to practice two days and then do a gig w/the first stooges reunion in 28 years at the coachella festival on april 27. I checked WinXP's HCL (hardware compat. list) and not many Plextor drivers are listed. Well, I need to replace a cdrw in a friend's system (he bought a system made of generic parts) and wanted to try to avoid any incompatibility headaches. Their spending limit is rather low, so can anyone recommend a brand/model of CDR/CDRW that is fully compatible with WinXP (that I might be able to find relatively cheaply)? I know that WInXP has some feature called "drag and burn" - is burning software required/advisable using WinXP? Are the usual software tools such as MKWACT, CDWave compatible with XP? Are there any obstacles that I need to be aware of and need to avoid? Any/ all help appreciated! Thanks!! Does anyone else think this is rediculous? As if the sound at most rock concerts isn't bad enough... http://www.stereophile.com/shownews.cgi?1607 begin excerpt --> To add a watermark in real time during a live concert, Tachibana proposes a new composition method he calls "sonic watermarking." "In this composition method," says Tachibana, "the sound of the audio signal and the sound of the watermark are played separately by two speakers, and the sounds are mixed in the air. Using this composition method, it would be possible to generate a watermarking sound in a concert hall, so that the watermark could be detected from content recorded by audience members who have recording devices at their seats." <-- end excerpt ------------------------------ From: Sim Subject: QOTSA/ZWAN SET TIMES Date: Tue, 01 Apr 2003 16:36:40 -0500 Can anyone tell me how long Queens of the Stone Age and Zwan play on their current outing? I rec'd a nice 48K DAT of a Rush item a couple years back, and while migrating it to CDR and making a cover of this vinyl-sourced item, realized it's probably from 14 Feb 80 Kiel Auditorium, St. Louis--but which permutation of that show is it? This is how it is labelled on the DAT: 03/29/80 Rush, Kiel Auditorium, St. Louis, MI [sic] Limelight/Tom Saywer/Xanadu/Beneath.../Closer.../By-Tor.../In The Mood It is 47 minutes in length, probably FM>tape>Vinyl>48K DAT, and doesn't seem to match up with any of the other versions of this show I've seen everywhere.
