I'm hoping that someone could tape this show for me. It's an Iron
Maiden, Dio, and Motorhead concert. I'm really only concerned with the
Dio segment. I'd really appreciate it. Please let me know if it's
possible. TNX in advance.

false, the jb uses a proprietary file system, not fat32. The 3 hour limit is
creative's over-conservative way of keeping the jb from making wavs bigger
than 2gb, which would be in violation of the ms .wav standard. I've
explained to the engineers that you can go almost 3 1/2 hours at 44K, but
they have never moved on this.

eagerly awating your test results. you were recording a control to compare
it to, right? oh yeah, I forgot, 100% of all people who say the nomad
records flawlessly have never actually tested the waveform.
(sorry to get increasingly sarcastic, but getting tired of the "it sounds
good to me" argument. If its working for you, thats great, but dont say it
is 'more relaible than/as reliable as DAT' if youre not actualy testing
it...)

Sorry Jamie, this is *completely* false. Creative's last firmware update
for the Jukebox 3 was late last month (28 Mar 2003). The current firmware
(1.32.02) has proven quite stable in my test setup, with over 50 hours of
recording logged.

In the last 15 shows, the only time my Nomad 3 has given me problems is
when I space and forget to charge the batts before the show. Zero
lock-ups, zero pops, zero glitches, zero occasional noise through ANY of
the recordings using the Nomad 3 via optical-in, being fed by an SBM-1
with 7-pin optical cable. Before you ask, yes, I have tested my
recordings for bit-accuracy against another digital clone.
> I think it can do mp3s for longer but wavs stop at 2:59:59 (not at 2GB)
It can record MP3's up to 10 hours in length. Like a 90m DAT, it stops
recording WAV at the 3 hour mark, but you can just hit the record button
to start another file. My tests have shown that I've been able to do this
with only a 4 second gap (compared with 10+ seconds with swapping DAT
tape).

Who's given up on using the Nomad as a recorder? Certianly not
myself and the 10 guys I know personally that are using them as
their primary audio capturing device.
There's a yahoogroup for Nomad3 tapers at
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/njb3tapers
Unfortunatly, it hasn't been as active as it could be, largely because it
hasn't been advertised and only has 10 people currently subscribed.

The last firmware release for the NJB3 was in late January. It wasn't THAT
long ago.

I've recorded about 10 shows with my NJB3 (oktava mc-012-> UA5-> NJB3) and
have had nothing but excellent results. I've also corresponded with people
on the NJB3 forum at www.nomadness.net who also use it to record live music
and they have not had any problems. I've personally recommended it to people
and every one of them have thanked me for telling them about the NJB3. I've
only used the optical input with my current rig so maybe it acts weird with
other equipment or recording with the analog input?...I don't know.
For me, its perfect.

Subject: M1 repair advice/Sony "service" centers
Date: Thu, 17 Apr 2003 20:00:47 -0400
I sent my M1 to Sony for repair last October and paid the $274 flat
fee. The problem recurred within 3 months so I sent it back, but Sony sent
it back before calling to tell me they couldn't duplicate the problem. Now
the warranty on the repair is out and Sony no longer charges a flat
fee. After much waiting I received my faxed estimate, which is $162.69 for
"labor to test the unit," which sounds to me like an estimate for the real
estimate. I'm looking for advice on where to go from here--refuse this
estimate, pay this money to get a real estimate, then pay the actual repair
fee? If anyone's dealt with Sony recently I'd be interested to hear
guesses on what my actual repair will cost. Do they really replace it
after 3 paid repairs? And I'd love to hear of other places I might send
the deck for repair (Oade said they can't do it...what about Pro
Digital?). Sony has been a nightmare & my deck has seen more of the
country than I have since they keep closing more service centers, so I'm
willing to eat the $120 estimate refusal fee if there's some other way to
get this deck actually fixed this time. Here's a description of the problem.
I think the original cause might have been my falling in April 2002. I
tripped over a stake on a hill & landed on my bag hard enough to leave a
small dent in the metal lunchbox holding the deck (padded with enough
flannel to hold it in place). It wasn't squished but badly shaken I'm
sure. In late August the deck refused to load a tape, displaying
"load"..."unload"... repeatedly until finally shutting off. This was the
first problem I'd had, but my friend confessed that he also found the
load/unload problem the week before while borrowing the deck, but that it
had worked eventually. I sent the deck to Sony & got it back in working
order with a repair date of 10/4. They said they replaced the loading deck
& did some other tune-up kind of things. Also they stole my Spiderman
lunchbox. On 10/19 the deck started the problem of rewinding at play speed
(real time), which seems to be a thermal problem, i.e. it only occurs after
the deck has been in use for at least an hour & rewind speed is normal when
it's been sitting for a while. This also seems like a loading problem, so
in mid-November I sent it back to Sony with a long note explaining when the
problem occurs. Sony left me a message saying they could not duplicate the
problem, and later that day when I called them back to explain, they had
already mailed it back to me. The problem continued & on 2/8 I discovered
mid-show that the deck had stopped recording. I tried to start recording
again, but the load/unload problem had returned. I sent it, no longer
under warranty, to Sony and have no way of knowing whether they'll even
find the problems and whether the deck will ever be fixed for good. One
other note, for as long as I can remember it's rewound & fast-forwarded
with a noise that seems too rattly, but I have nothing to compare it to
since this is the only deck I've ever had.
Thank you very much for any help or advice you can offer.
Melissa

Hi all,
A Friend of mine just got a new V3 and is looking to unload some gear. This
is a heck of a deal IMHO. The apogee ad1000 is in perfect cosmetic and
working condition. I have a download on my Bit torrent page of karl denson
4-10-03 where Jon used the ad1000 if you want a sample recording:

For complete details on the package, please visit:

Thanks for the space.
