Sounds like a sync problem if you're using a digital source. Some
studio gear will auto-lock onto an incoming digital signal to prevent
this, or an external word clock device can be used to sync all
digital gear in a chain.
I've experienced glitches in the firewire transfer of recordings from
the JB3 to the PC. These were my own recordings from the analog
line-in of the JB3. They're clean recordings on the JB3, but don't
survive the transfer to PC without glitching. Whether the problem is
in the resampling that windows does, or in the Creative version of
the firewire protocol, or somewhere in the firmware of all the
devices involved, I dunno.

Wow. "Dat" and "reliable" in the same breath! You were doing good up
until this. ;-)

Anyone have an online link to a (pdf) service manual for the PCM-M1. I have
links for pro video equipment if you need that sort of thing.

Subject: Problem with Sony TCD-D100
Date: Sun, 20 Apr 2003 10:50:47 -0700
Hello All,
Before I send my DAT in for repair I wanted to check with he list to see if
anyone has had any experiences similar to mine.
Last week I used a Sony 15CL cleaning cassette for the first time on my
TCD-D100. I then went to record a show in town and everything appeared to
work as normal. When I got home I listen to the tape and the recording was
just static throughout with no music recorded at all. Since then when I try
to play a DAT it will play the tape for about 4 seconds and the tape will
automatically stop and go into the "Unload" on the screen. I have also put
in a DAT and fast forward, a tape and I will get about 18-20 seconds and
again it will automatically stop and go to "Unload" on the screen. When I
put in a new blank tape it does not even recognize the blank tape.
I have also found that the tape is not forwarding at all when I do play or
fast-forward the tape. I did trouble shooting and have excluded the
power/battery source, DAT tapes etc.
Any help would be appreciated since the summer concert season is starting.
Larry

I'm selling my Metric Halo Mobile I/O 2882. I put it
up on ebay because I have to sell it by the end of the
week and am sick of getting the runaround from
potential buyers who back out. If you want it, go bid.
Email me with any questions.

Hey there,
A friend of mine wants to convert some old cassette stuff to digital (CDR)
format, but says that there is hiss. She uses a PC, and was hoping to find a
freeware software for hiss-cleaning - is there such a thing she can use? Then
she can try to do a general cleanup and have a new project to last the next 5
years.
Any info is appreciated, many thanks!

hmm, newbie mistakes. Anybody got a list of them? How about buying a DAT
instead of a DDS tape and not reading the fine print that it says 94 MINUTES
and not METERS. and figuring this out with 25 minutes to go in a New Monsoon
show. OOPS! Who by the way are great fun,and a great price at this time.

Have any list members taped any of the recent Todd Rundgren solo shows?
Specifically looking for Chicago 4/11, Detroit 4/12 and Cleveland 4/13/03,
but interested in other second leg shows. Have much to trade including
shows from the first leg of the tour. Please contact me off list. Thank
you.

Subject: JB 3 Firmware Problems
Date: Sun, 20 Apr 2003 15:00:12 -0500
I live in the community where Creative has its customer support and have
been working on this issue for some weeks now with these people....in
defense of the J3 I can say that it is a fine recorder if you realize what
they have done to screw the circuit paths up.
I will say is that the J3 checks out as a VERY accurate recorder given
you do not mistakenly do all the firmware upgrades. It seems that the last
firmware upgrade they did was a hack job, they tried to place 48 db into
this tiny 1/8 input....MISTAKE....the clips and glitches you will hear is
the result. The gradients move by 4 db for each of the 12 levels equaling 48
db. It was never designed to function in this way, but some marketing genius
said hey lets make this look like this thing will work at 48 db...WRONG.
First the bad news, the firmware upgrades cannot be reversed :( The good
news is that if you power the line input correctly with a proper preamp you
can leave the line level adjustments alone getting a VERY good clean and DAT
comparable recording :) Another option is to use a preamp with optical
output and voila! If you must adjust the line levels only do so minimally as
the gradient as we said is 4 db for each step, in other words the +4 on the
line level inputs would actually be 16 db. There are no audible glitches at
this level unless you are a bat!
Well I hope this dispels some hesitation on this product as it is a
shame that we have to beg, scream and claw for affordable recording gear and
this is one of the first products that promises that. Only advice I can give
is read closely your firmware upgrade specs and
beware! Mark Ragsdale -rags-@sbcglobal.net

Have a few DATs I'd like to offer up for B+P.
moe.
2-4-2000 (1x60m & 1x90m) @ Mississippi Nights, St. Louis, MO (Neumann KM143)
YMSB
10-7-99 (1x60m) @ Cicero's, St. Louis, MO (SBD/CA PZM180 matrix)
Oysterhead & Garage A Trois
5-4-00 (1x90m) @ NOLA (Schoeps mk4's)
I guess I'd like 2x60m and 2x90m in exchange. I do have full source info
for these and believe they're error-free. The YMSB and moe. are masters, the
Oysterhead is a clone. I'd prefer they all go to one place but would be
willing to split them up if nobody wants all four tapes. Oh, and I'm just
sending out my one copy of each and not any more. Thanks!

Hey all,
I'm borrowing a PCM-R500 for a while but without manual and assistance from
the traveling owner.
Can someone shed some light on when attempting to record, the display shows
"unlock" and doesn't allow me to record via normal means? How do I get
around this?
Thanks for the assistance! Please reply off list. Dave
