tom/bogus,
i don't think we have issue with the information so much as the format....it
takes ALOT of space to go show by show, city by city, a paragraph for each
show....remember, all this is archived somewhere and someone has to pay for
that space/bandwidth, so maybe if someone plans on posting 25 shows for 5 or
6 bands each, they can help out by shortening the format a little ? (that
'delete' button is a powerful tool as well! )
just my $.02 now i'm back on the oade boards :)

I have a set of stealth Core Sound binaural mics that haven't been used in
quite some and therefore I am selling them. They have a battery box with
fixed response bass roll-off filter. These mics were only used on a couple
of occasions and are in excellent condition. What are these going for used?

Did it ever work for you? I never had any luck with my ZA2 in windows
(using 98SE as well), started running it in DOS years ago and it works
great, resampling and all. I've never monitored through the sound card
however, just a direct line from analog out on the deck to my stereo. Give
it a shot, at least you'll know if it's the card or windows that preventing
the resampling.

Hi all.
I can't seem to get my Zefiro to hardware resample.
(48 to 44.1) I'm using Win 98SE, and everything
else seems to be fine, but I can't seem to
get it to resample (selected "play normal", and
I get MS SoundMapper errors, and MM01System
Errors and such)

Subject pretty much says it all. Looking for an exceptional recording of any
of the recent Doors shows. Have plenty to trade including a phenomenal
recording of Bruce Springsteen's intimate acoustic Somerville Theater show (2-
19-03) done from the 13th row center Schoeps MK4->Huber BR box->SBM-1->D8.
Also have the following night 2-20-03 from 6th row with Sonic Studios DSM6s.
DAT or CD.
Thanks in advance!

Date: 29 Apr 2003 13:55:36 -0400
I've been on this list for about 10 years and I've seen it weather alot
of different people coming and going and it surely has diverged from
purely dat related content out of neccessity as the technology has given
us other alternatives. But in general this list is intended for the
discussion of digital audio recording and related issues. Maybe that
includes bands that allow taping.
Live bands are why most of us use this equipment. But to post 100 lines
of tour dates for some band that maybe three people care about is just
fucking rude. It's outside the charter of the list and for people (like
me) who take a digest for the low traffic, it's a pain in the ass to see
three articles that merit attention and the rest of the digest filled
with tour dates for bands that should have tour lists on a web site.
There are plenty of over lists that are intended for promoting live
music and sharing tourdates. Stop being lazy and go find them. If you
like a band that much and want to promote them, then make a web site and
post a link. If you like seeing the tour lists because you get
introduced to new artists, that's great. But there are other lists for
that purpose and 100 line tour lists are out of context here.
At least the one guy I bitched at directly had a funny response.

maybe that includes bands that do not allow taping? in fact, half of the
bands brought up on this list do not allow taping? who cares? taping is
taping.

only 3 people care about 98% of the bands talked about on this list.

Subject: long tourdates lists...
Date: Tue, 29 Apr 2003 14:21:36 -0400
"If your interested in posting bands tourdates, just add a link to a web
page for us to get them,"
**I think just about everyone on this list has the good manners to do this
as much as possible....but it isn't always possible, that's the problem:
Many smaller and obscure bands either do not have a website, or do not post
their tourdates there. Recent Example: The Subhumans tour which was posted
here....I sure wouldn't have otherwise known that this great band was
playing almost in my back yard if it hadn't been for one of those long lists
of dates.....sure, the band has a website, but it didn't have the tourdates
there.... I don't see any of those complaining offering to create or
maintain a website for bands that they don't care about and have never heard
of.
"if we care. 99 times out of 100 I could care less about the bands or have
never even heard of them."
**No, this person is certainly not alone....many will surely make such a
statement. This, my friends, is DISCRIMINATION, pure and simple. Certainly
the first 99 posted lists of tourdates don't interest me either....but then
you hit that 100th one that makes scrolling past all the others well worth
the while! No one complains when the first 99 of those posts are for
obscure jazz, blues, bluegrass, or funk artists, but when that post rolls
around that happens to list tourdates for an obscure and undertaped metal or
punk band, the whining starts immediately. Tapers of underground metal and
punk have a right to exist here too....just because these are the minority
of tapers does not mean that there is cause to discriminate, as happens all
too often here in several different ways. I must have never noticed the
sign that said "post anything you like about jambands, bluegrass, funk, or
jazz artists, but you are not welcome here if your musical taste and
interest leans toward stealthing underground metal and punk".....when are we
going to stop being told to sit in the back of the bus?
"This group is not intended as a band promotion list,"
**Remember the similar topic of posts from vendors? When is a band
promotion not a band promotion? If someone not associated with an obscure
and undertaped metal or punk band posts a list of tour dates that's band
promotion, but if someone says that a band they are in is playing two
nights' worth of Pink Floyd covers at such-and-such location so come and
tape us, then it's not a band promotion, correct? If you announce here that
a band that you're in is taper friendly, is that promotion? What about
including some tour dates because your band dosen't have a website? What
about posting the list of remaining shows that you do not have tapers
already lined up to cover? The quoted statement above is certainly another
open can of worms that reeks of becoming fertile ground for more
discrimination....
"its for discussion of DAT/recording related matters period."
**Isn't the fact that an undertaped and obscure band is touring happen to be
a "recording related matter"? Or is it only a "recording related matter" if
you know who the band is, and / or they play the type of music that you
happen to like? Granted, the main purpose of the list is the exchange of
technical information....but it IS an open forum, and the fact that this
list is uncensored makes the lack of abuse in this forum all the more
impressive.....sure, there's a few bad apples out there, but I think that
generally the manners of those on this list are quite good. The fact that
this list is a balance of technical content as well as equipment for sale,
"for trade" posts, "searching for" posts, and yes, postings of tourdates
makes it the ideal forum for ALL tapers. If you're here only for the
technical content, is it a bad thing if someone posts something you like
"for trade"? Is it a bad thing if you're only here for the "for trade"
posts and you happen to learn something technical? Many on the list who
post "for trade", or "searching for", or any other non-technical subject DO
do things like make the occasional technical post, offer help (both onlist
and off) to newcomers, and offer up a BWT. I can recall a couple of those
complaining about long lists of tourdates as having made posts with
technical content.....but I can also recall them as making "for trade",
"looking for", "for sale", "is anyone taping?", and "this is worth taping"
type of posts too. I'm speaking strictly from memory, but go back through
the archives and see for yourself what kind of postings those participating
in this thread have made in the past. I think that no matter how we happen
to do it, we ALL do a pretty good job of justifying our existance
here.....there's room enough on the bus for everybody, just please stop
telling the minority to sit in the back....
Thanks for yet another posting,
john e. bogus
PS- I smell another BWT coming again....don't worry, I'll be extra sure to
make it a stealthed recording of something obscure and heavy....

Anyone ever use a mic stand that doesn't end threaded, but instead with a
spigot? I just got a Manfrotto A635 that's terminated like this:
http://hoytr2.stu.rpi.edu/misc/100-0008_IMG.JPG
I was looking at a few different adapters that I can take from the 5/8"
spigot to various screw threads (http://makeashorterlink.com/?H5B825264),
but nothing that goes straight to a 5/8" screw thread. So I'd have to get
two or three separate adapters from what I've found. I was wondering if
anyone has happened upon a better plan that what I found.
Sorry for the cross post. Thanks!

I personally like seeing Tour Dates for some of the
lesser known bands out there. Even though if an entry
is quite long it it is not too hard to scroll down
past it. I see it as a small inconvenience for for
being informed about concerts that I might otherwise
never have heard about.
Just my 2 cents,

I have bought from them (Markertek Video Supply). They are pretty good I
never had a problem. But Shop around though for prices. Other good
equipment suppliers; Musicians Freind and Sweetwater Sound (Stewart
Hisey). Tell them Glen from Like It Live' sent you not that I'll get
anything from it but it does strengthen relationships. I have a Tascam
DA30 and its been real good to me. You may also think about getting a
portable CD recorder. The price for your media (CDs) is far cheaper than
DATs.
