I care that all of us have had to watch this thread. DAT-heads is not moderated, else very little of this discussion would have made it. In the past tour dates have been sent to the list and it hasn't been an issue. I think as long as people use some common sense we do not need any hard and fast rules. My general idea of common sense follows, but considering its advice and not a rule ... I ask that those who dissent just follow up with me personally and not prolong this debate. - There are some efforts that seem very valuable which could be restricted by a hard and fast rule, an example of this is Dan Gale's efforts to archive all the shows of Los Lobos (sometime Dan I need to hit you up for some highlights). Ditto bands who are looking for tapers (Shockra for instance in the past) -- we get special privileges from some bands and do owe paying respect to their archival needs - In the case of obscure bands, instead of posting lines and lines of dates... how about saying why you think the band should be taped and mention some of the states or countries they are hitting (two letter abbreviations don't take 50 lines) - DAT-heads is not a tour dates list... "becky's" or any other places are a better place to inform or be informed of random tours. (If you are posting complete dates of 3 bands a month your common sense flag should go up that its off topic) - In general the bulk of each post should be your opinion and not just something forwarded or quoted... there are obvious exceptions, but in most cases you should *edit* something forwarded from elsewhere ; this means condensing tour dates So, w/o strong consensus from the rest of DAT-heads, I don't see any reason to ban tour dates. I do see reason for most of the people who participated in the thread to breath deeply and get their minds back on topic. Sean

It always makes me laugh when people ask how I'll listen to the tape when I never transfer to cdr. It's called a play button and it's right next to the record button. Not to be confused with the stop button which has a tiny dot over it. BWT: WSP 4-29-03 Savannah B&P on DAT only, for those of you who know where the play button is. mk4>kc5>cmc6>v3>dap1. FOB,DFC.
From: "DRider" <Hawkwind@attbi.com> Subject: RE: Tour Dates Date: Thu, 1 May 2003 14:25:54 -0400 I have to say I am w/ John E. Bogus and Tom on this one. Please keep them coming! I used to be a huge Ministry fan. I knew that they had a new disc coming out (probably out already). But I knew nothing about their tour until someone posted the dates on this list. Turns out they are playing right here in Jacksonville. Now, I am pretty stoked about that! The point - even the biggest music junkie can NOT keep up w/ everything going on. There's alot of whining on this list. It did not used to be that way. There also people that use this as a forum to air their dirty trading laundry for all of us to see. Is that really needed? How about the pointless threads that get started and go on WAY too long?? What about the people that post the entire previous Digest along w/ their post? What about the people that have the long signature at the bottom of all of their posts? Are you getting the drift? There are plenty of posts that I scroll past, but I don't turn around and bitch because I had to scroll past them. A happy medium could be reached w/ the tour dates posts. There's enough info and then there's way too much info. Just because you never heard of the band is NOT a reason to bitch about a tour dates post. Aren't we all music lovers here? There all kinds of great bands that people never heard of. Does that mean they suck? Just because you never heard of them - give me a break! How many of you have heard of Hawkwind? They have only been around for 34 years! A link to a website may not be enough. If you have not heard of the band and you don't know their songs, then you would not even bother looking, right? Then you might never find out that they are playing in your town and that you could have taped. Time passes and you may actually hear them and like their music. Wouldn't you be kicking yourself for the fact that a cool band played your town and you missed it because "you never heard of them before". How lame! One of the things that I like about being a taper is the camaraderie we have. We help each other out. If someone posts a band's tour dates and is looking for other tapers to help capture the tour, the band's music must mean ALOT to them. It's good karma to help others out. Some day they may return the favor. Isn't discovering a new band, making a phat master recording of them and helping another taper out a win/win situation?? Most of the things that piss folks off has to do w/ common sense. Posting the entire tour dates for 5 bands that will take up an entire Digest might not be the best idea. How about one or 2 bands a day? Not all the info is needed. The date and the city and then a link to the band's site for more detailed info works well. So stop bitching and offer something constructive as an alternative to something that really gets under your skin. If that does not work for you, ask yourself why the topic is so important to the person that posted it before you rake them over the coals in front of everyone. No B&P offers this time. However, I will offer: moe. 4/26/03 Gainesville, FL moe. 4/27/03 St. Pete, FL WSP 4/29/03 Savannah, GA from my rig: Josephson C-603/KA-500(Hyper)>Denecke PS-1A's>Zefiro Inbox>PCM- M1 for DAT ONLY trades Looking for WSP Spring 2003 shows in return. From: "david gatewood" <daveg_8@hotmail.com> Subject: tour postings Date: Thu, 01 May 2003 21:44:00 +0000 I don't post much, but stand in the middle ground on this issue. I don't mind seeing the tour dates, but FOR GOD SAKES, only use the basic info. 1 line per date, not 4 lines listing every possible piece of info, including best taping spot, what beer to get, which chick to hook up with, etc...... Now, Carl who organized the Subhumans taping told me some of you idiots backed out of taping last minute with no word to him. You should be beaten with a T bar until you cry!!!!!!! If you say you will go, and he gets you guest list, go! Or else let him know, so someone else can go tape. I realize things come up, but communicate! Jesus, are you 5 years old. Not only did I have a good time at the show for FREE, but partied with the band as well. Damn good guys, IMO. I know the first inscinct is to accept the freebie, but if you aren't sure, allow someone else the joy. I inquired about a Yonder show a while back, and was told it was covered. Well, the guy backed out with plenty of time, and I was contacted and taped it. From: "Gary Davis" <g@hoxnet.com> Subject: My 2c on long Tour Dates posts Reply-to: g@hoxnet.com Date: Thu, 1 May 2003 15:02:19 -0700 As someone who was slightly annoyed with the recent long tour dates post, but also someone guilty of recently posting long tour dates for Mike Watt, I had to consider these conflicting issues and came to the following conclusion: My problem with the recent posting is that it did not contain *any* information about the bands. I suggest, in the future, that anyone posting tour dates for a band we may not know, take the time to write a compelling paragraph explaining *why* we might want to see this particular band. Also, just for the record, I spent considerable time reformatting the Mike Watt post I sent to take less space. As lengthy as it was, it would have been about 3 times as long if I had let the lines "break" the way they did after the cut-and-paste. --Gary

From: Joshua <sprung598@yahoo.com> Subject: long tour dates posts Date: Thu, 1 May 2003 16:20:22 -0700 (PDT) I like seeing the tour schedules of what other people are listening to and taping, taper friendly or otherwise. It doesn't seem to me to be a huge, hairy deal to simply scroll past text, even if it is more than a page or so, and I hope people will continue to post them. One other thought is that some of the individuals might try and be a bit more polite and ease up on the language in discussions. My tender ears just can't take it. As for all the folks who have devoted much time to the discussion of this (on both sides of the issue), WHERE THE #@%*! IS THE BANDWIDTH TAX??? MCMILLER???? -Josh BWT: I'll B&P 2 Jerry Douglas 4-19-03 from the Fox Theater in Boulder, DAT-in-the-hat style...I'll take a couple of downloads, too, if anyone is interested PS Is it ironic that the discussion of said tour dates has taken up more space than the tour dates themselves? __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? I'm looking for any Tori Amos shows I don't have, new or old. I have a page but it's woefully out of date (and lacking in source info for older shows) so please send along lists/pages if interested. Thanks again to Wayne, I believe my original problem was that I had too large of a file and it just didn't work with CoolEdit. Things were deleted and tried again and it worked perfectly after that. WDAT is a wonderful little tool!

Actually it's an M112 modified by them to 48v usage. Anyway, new these are $1300 and this one is a tank...a bit beaten up on the outside but perfect "under the hood", per Oade Bros. when they did the voltage mod around 4 years ago. My opinion is that it sounds really, really nice. I am in financial dire straights and am selling "non-essential" items and this is one, unfortunately. If anyone has a suggestion as to its value (perhaps for an ebay starting price or something) or if anyone wants to make me an offer to purchase it, I'd really appreciate it. I can send photos. It has a recharger. Thanks folks. Sorry for the wob. Scott Greenbaum scott@greenbaum.com
