Date: Fri, 09 May 2003 20:50:57 +0000 Thought I would add someting about the post from Mr. Lomardo on the Stealth Mic Reccommendations. I agree that the Kind Taper should have given more thought on his choice in microphone selection, as in which specific DSM model mic set to purchase. On the other hand I do also see the Kind Tapers side of the fence on this issue as well. Let's face it Mr. Lombardo's products may be good but quality most certainly does come at a rather steep price for panasonic capsule microphones from Sonic Studios. Gees, Kind Taper already had a good amount of money invested in his mic setup through Sonic Studios. So now Mr. Lombardo suggest's that he purchase the overpriced PA-6LC3B filter for $200.00, and possibly upgrade to the DSM-6S/EL for an additional $600.00. Let's see that would be $800.00 dollars so far and add to that the set that Kind Taper already purchased for $450.00. I have often wondered why Mr. Lombardo can't just make a good set of all around omni's such as the Core Sound Binaurals. Instead of having to spend $400.00 on one set and then drop another $600.00 on another set just to be able to record loud concerts, and yet another $200.00 for a Sonic battery module. When for $260.00 you can get 1 set of Core Sound Binaurals with a switchable bass roll off & battery box that will not distort at high spl's. realistically, for $180 more dollars than what you could get the DSM-6s/EL's and a PA-6LC3B filter for, at around $980 you could get the High-End Binaural Microphone Set at Core Sound which comes with a switchabe bass roll off and battery box. This set utilizes the highly praised DPA4060 and DPA4061 miniature omnidirectional's. I have heard recordings made with Sonic Studios microphones and they sounded great, so I know the Sonic Studios microphones are an excellent choice. My whole beef is the price you are paying for panasonic capsuled microphones seems like it should be significantly lower than $600.00 dollars for a set of mic's. And if I could have afforded it, I would have splurged and gotten the DSM- 6S/EL, and one of your $1,000.00 dollar preamp's, but I just couldn't swing it. Mr. Lombardo did you ever stop to think that Wes the Kind Taper may not have an extra $800.00 in spare change just lying around his house to get the products that you suggested to him. Some of the taper people that I know are operating on shoe string budgets and just don't have that kind of money to throw around to get into the whole recording thing. I would like to suggest that Mr. Lombardo should look into making a new set of DSM mic's for all around applications and price them to sale at around $250 to $300.00 dollar range. He may find more of a market for this type of product and be surprised at how well they sale, rather than limiting his products and concentrating on specialty high and low sens. mic's. Still continue to make all the other models but include a new model as discussed above for all of us poor working people who have to work within their prospective budgets. I am not affiliated with Core Sound, nor am I trying to push their products. I was merely using the Core Sound brand as a means of comparison. ------------------------------ From: "Ian Stone" Subject: DJ Logic This Sunday! Someone pls tape?!? Date: Fri, 9 May 2003 14:59:00 -0700 If anyone out there in the NYC area could go out and tape this for me, it'd be much appreciated. Date: Fri, 9 May 2003 15:22:29 -0700 From: GuySonic@aol.com "Now you post that you get distortion with those crappie Sonic Studios mics!!!!" I didn't see where Wes called his Sonic Studios crappy. Just looked like someone who was looking to upgrade his mics and wanted feedback. Are we not here for this? "Thanks a lot for posting to a generally not well informed recording group and spreading the ignorance further about unsatisfactory taping results (actually with improperly configured for what you are now recording) system components." 'Generally not well informed recording group'?!? Thanks alot! We need vendors like this to keep us well informed? "And you call yourself "kindtaper"!!!" You insult and post private emails to this 'generally not well informed recording group" and call yourself a vendor? Good luck retailing to the generally not well informed. ------------------------------ From: "lee b" Subject: dsm6s-L Date: Sat, 10 May 2003 00:22:07 +0000 I have to agree with Leonard. These mics have rendered all the realism that my Klipsch speakers could handle. (My car speakers were another matter, but that's what CoolEdit is for.) I don't know where "up" would be from these easily stealthable mics, for my money. _________________________________________________________________ Add photos to your e-mail with MSN 8. I'm thinking about getting a DAT recorder, and I don't know what I should get. I have experience with a mini disc recorder, and I want to start using DAT. Also, what should I use in conjunction with a recorder (like, mics or whatever.....) I'll want a recorder on the small side that can be hidden relatively easily, if that's of any help. And finally, where do I purchase these items? Most stores I've looked in don't have them, and when I ask sales clerks they don't seem to know what I'm talking about. I don't really have a price limit, but I want to get the best deal possible. Thanks a lot. Sue. ------------------------------ From: Seth Breidbart Subject: Re: recomendations/help Date: Fri, 9 May 2003 21:52:02 -0400 (EDT) > I'm thinking about getting a DAT recorder, and I don't know what I > should get. Right now, I'd wait for something like the Core Sounds Recorder. > Also, what should I use in conjunction with a recorder (like, mics > or whatever.....) mics, power supply/preamp/a-d converter (1-4 boxes). > I'll want a recorder on the small side that can be hidden > relatively easily, if that's of any help. I'd definitely go with the Core Sounds then, it's based on a Pocket PC so should pass inspection. > And finally, where do I purchase these items? Dat decks are hard to find these days. I could send you (or anyone) the Market Posting; many of the vendors listed probably still exist. (I stopped updating it because there really isn't any new news about dat decks.) Marcello ------------------------------ From: KindTaper@aol.com Subject: Regarding my post about Sonic Studios Mics Date: Sat, 10 May 2003 03:08:50 -0400 I apologize for taking up this space, but I would like the opportunity to clarify my recent post regarding stealth mic recommendations. From Mr. Lombardo's post, it seems that my inquiry has been regarded as a direct threat to both his business and the integrity of his microphones. On the contrary, I was simply asking if anyone had encountered the same problem that I had faced so many times; repeated bass distortion on tapes, and had they achieved better results with a different taping setup? Now, I did say the following to Leonard, way too soon, after the *first* tape I made with the mics on 5/26/00: <> Did he ever get my support? No, and the reason was because I could never seem to consistently repeat the results I achieved the first night I used the DSM's. Yes, I have made some great tapes since purchasing the DSM mics, but they are few in comparison with the distorted tapes I have made. Leonard said: <> He also said: <> And, He also said: <> Nowhere in my post did I attack your mics, your company or you. I simply requested information from a diverse group of live recording enthusiasts, and the response from this "generally not well informed" group was in excess of 35 people, all extremely knowledgeable in their suggestions of over a half-dozen different types of mics. Not in a single e-mail did anyone give high accolades to the DSM mics and tell me I made a mistake in selling them. In conclusion, if you have any questions about my e-mail address, why don't you ask one of the hundreds of people who have dealt with me, over almost 7 years of taping and trading. I guarantee you that the number of people with positive things to say about me will far outweigh the negative. Could the same be said about you? I am more interested in the 4 channel version, but the 2 channel version has dropped to $199 at several on line sources. At the very least it looks like an intriguing option for going digitally from a dat into the laptop in a mobile package.
