Hey all,
I'm looking for a recording of this past Friday's Fleetwood Mac show from
the MCI Center in DC. My folks were at the show (first concert in quite a
while for them, considering how frequently they used to go see live music!).
Anyway, I'd love to surprise them with a copy.
Have some nice stuff to trade including recent Doors (Boston, FOB 8th row),
Stones (Chicago '03, Schoeps MK4), Bruce Springsteen (2-19-03 Somerville
acoustic show, 12th row FOB Schoeps MK4), Eagles, Knopfler, etc. DAT or CD
is fine. I'll be happy to send my list or B+P would be great.
Thanks in advance!
Will

Hi all,
Please reply to this topic off-list, as I'm sure this has been asked
previously (but I can't find it in the digest): I'm looking to buy new
mics in the $300 price range - are there any other options besides Core Sound
Binaurals I should be looking at? Conditions:
1) They should be stealth mics
2) They will be mostly used for recording loud indie music (Sonic Yoof,
that sort of thing).
So far CSBs seem like the best bet (based on other's experiences and also
because Len seemed really knowledgeable), but I'm curious to hear other
people's (horror) stories.
Thanks in advance for any pointers,
Martin

I have been reading the little bruha regarding Sonics, Pan caps, etc. All I
can say is for the same price as the high end DSM's or HEB's, you can own a
real set of AT 853R's and an Aerco or MP2. I paid $300 for my AT's and $600
for my Aerco. MP2's are flying everywhere for $500 or less. Either combo
will provide a much larger/deeper/wider soundstage and unless you don't know
how to run a pre, you will NEVER overload either the mics, pre, or A>D
section of your DAT or MD. I have made dozens of very HQ tapes from all
types of venues, many rivaling my full rig. Location at the venue is a
large part of sound capture, and for the money saved by not buying the Phat
rig of choice, you can put the money into great seats. You know you always
look for FOB tapes, and the small size of the AT's allows for not wearing
the Kangol and sticking out like a sore thumb. Sure, a full rig up front
will do even better, but in a crowded or seated venue, a small fanny pack
will hold the necessary gear.
I have been using 853's in one form or another since Jan '96 after a local
music store guy told me some of the Dead FOB crowd used to run them. I can
see why!
BWT: Need proof? B&P DAT 1 of each of 5 shows, Phil FOB '99
Pretenders FOB '00 Charlie Daniels FOB '01 Marshall Tucker FOB '01
and one of the latest Kelly Joe Phelps FOB '03. It's a mix of
853>Aerco and 853>MP2 shows. Now how's that for a BWT!!!!!!

Hi,
If someone could help me out on this it would be much
appericated. I upgraded from windows 98 to XP and are
having problems with my DAT drive which was a Seagate
CDT8000R-S which I flash to make it the Archive type
that could read audio. I can seem to see it at all in
the device manager at all, although it pick up the
scsi card. This did happen to me in WIN98 but once I
installed Veritas Backup Exec Desktop it automatically
pick up the drive and installed the drivers and popped
up in the device manager. I installed the WIN2K
version of Backup Exec on my XP system but it still
didnt pick up the DAT drive. If someone could please
help me on this I would be forever great full.
Thanks in advance.

Looking for a super clean copy of the audio. I have an *amazing* copy of the show on DVD, but the audio's not that great. It almost sounds like a 2nd or 3rd gen tape, but the picture is pristine. If you have a super clean copy of the audio and don't have the video, I have a friend that can sync them and I'll send you a copy of the DVD along with other stuff. Please let me know if you can help.

Date: Tue, 13 May 2003 17:29:07 +0000
I have a Sony PCM-2600 for sale. This has been my "extra" DAT player for a
few years. Very light use. Not many DAT copies made with this and not too
many CD transfers either. I am pretty sure I have the original box. Owner's
manual and remote included. 16 bit D>A, A>D, Adjustable XLR outs (nice...),
XLR in, AES and Coax digital in and out. Can be sourced through as a DAC if
you have an older CD player with a digital out. $450 which is roughly 1/4
the retail price.
This deck is in nice shape and plays great. Please Email me if you may be
interested.
Thanks for reading this.
Bob

Subject: using sonosax with nimh 9volts?
Date: Tue, 13 May 2003 10:40:41 -0700 (PDT)
hey
is there anybody out there using rechargeable 9volt
batteries to power a sonosax preamp?
i've been using nimh cells to power my d8/m1 for years
without issue, but those cells range from 1600 to 2000
mah. the highest mah rating i can find on nimh 9volts
is 160 -- and this number is low enough that i'm
skeptical of its ability to power a high-drain,
critical device like a preamp.
here's a link for the set i'm looking at:
http://www.onlybatteries.com/showitem.asp?ItemID=11571.2
if someone can tell me how long a pair of these 160
mah cells will power a sonosax, i'd appreciate it.
also... if anyone knows of better cells, please speak!
thanks a lot
peter

MASEFIELD/ RIBOT PERFORM THE MUSIC OF DJANGO REINHARDT
On Wednesday May 14 at Tonic in NYC, Jamie will collaborate with Marc Ribot
for the first time performing original songs written by the legendary gypsy
jazz guitarist from France. Reinhardt's playing was some of the most
influential of any jazz guitarist in history, but there is a host of little
known songs that he wrote that will be interpreted on the date.
