From: TheSchoolNerd@aol.com Subject: Fleetwood Mac hits the stage Date: Wed, 14 May 2003 17:42:04 EDT Q: "Are they on time or a little late?" A: Always a tad late. Stevie must maintain her two dozen crispy-creme minimum before every show. And is she ever going to even try to hit those high notes ever again? :) D

From: "john e. bogus" <mallness@surfbest.net> Subject: TV taper alert: Sat., May 17 Date: Thu, 15 May 2003 00:38:52 -0400 In digest #737, the following was posted: At 8 pm, Saturday, May 17, WNED-TV (PBS), Buffalo, NY, presents the broadcast premiere of JUNIOR BROWN IN CONCERT at SUNY at Buffalo at the 2002 Buffalo Niagara Guitar Festival; this one-hour program includes live music and some interview footage. http://www.guitarfestival.org/guitarnight.asp Just as worthwhile as Junior Brown, if not actually more so, is the portion of the broadcast occuring at 11pm: TALAS!!! I would be EXTREMELY interested in getting both video and 48khz audio recordings of both acts! If it's something you're not interested in yourself, I'd be glad to send B&P for it, or can dangle a nice master (both 48khz DAT and DV video) of Junior Brown 7/14/01 as well as a few of those VERY hard to find Talas tapes in trade. Your blank tape runs for 2 hours, so you should be able to get both acts on one tape. If anyone records this, please, PLEASE tape the Talas performance as well!! OK, so there's a certain contingent on this list who might say "who's Talas? never heard of them, they never had a video on empty-v or headlined 50,000 seat arenas, so they must not be any good".....so for those of you who don't know, here's why this obscure, undertaped, and underrated act should be recorded: Talas put out two excellent albums on the Combat label (Sink Your Teeth Into That and Live Speed On Ice) in 1983 and 1984....the band broke up when a guy named David Lee Roth (ever hear of him?) quit a band named Van Halen (perhaps that name sounds familiar too) and hired bassist Billy Sheehan for his solo band. One of DLR's big solo hits, a song called Shy Boy, was originally a Talas song. Since being in DLR's band, Billy Sheehan taught bass at Guitar Institute or someplace like that. A great old-school rock act, with one of the best bass players you'll EVER hear! Worth recording for sure, just as much as Junior Brown is, these guys are different styles, but very much so in the same league. If anyone tapes this, PLEASE let me know! Thanks for the posting, john e. bogus PS- BWT will be ready to post here by next week....thanks.

From: rappard@dds.nl Subject: Slint recordings/setlists Date: Thu, 15 May 2003 14:53:27 +0200 (CEST) [Crosspost to the Washer list, since I'm sure this will interest others as well:] Wes asked (on the DATheads list) if Slint video recordings exist - sadly there aren't (unless someone is hoarding tapes), and unfortunately the Slint live/demos discography is a convoluted mess: - the only "sure" thing are the 7" original Albini mixes (official limited edition of 600 on Goldstar, 1994) of Glenn and Rhoda. - the Live Songs LP (which almost every Slint collector has in some form) contains two partial shows: 08/10/89, Court Tavern, New Brunswick, and 10/27/90, Rocklodge, Louisville. Often the venue for the latter is misspelled Wrocklage, Wreckage, etc. Supposedly a full recording of the 10/27/90 show (around 45 minutes) exists. Dates for this boot are occasionally given as 10/27/90, Louisville + 06/12/91, New Brunswick (which sounds probable as well). - the 08/19/89 and 03/03/89 Chicago Club Dreamerz shows: these dates often get mixed up (understandably). The 08/19/89 has a setlists that ends with 10 - Cortez The Killer and has an unknown track #6. This show has been circulating on CD-R for a while with two unknown tracks tacked on: the first a short (1:14) studio instrumental often dubbed "Heavy Vegetables", the second a long (8:29) live jam. - Summarizing (also including other dates that I've seen on trade lists, but haven't heard yet): 1987-04-27, house party, Louisville, 30, AUD 1989-03-03, Club Dreamerz, Chicago, 65, AUD 1989-07-01, Bangkok Restaurant, Chicago, 45, AUD 1989-08-10, Court Tavern, New Brunswick, AUD, 45, Live Songs LP 1989-08-18, Club Dreamerz, Chicago, 35 or 40, AUD 1989-08-19, Club Dreamerz, Chicago, 55, AUD 1989-12-06, Court Tavern, New Brunswick, 45, AUD, possibly incomplete 1990-07-13, Metro, Chicago, 45, AUD 1990-11-27, house party, Louisville, 45, SBD 1990-10-27, Rocklodge, Louisville, AUD, 45, and on Live Songs LP (incomplete, 15) 1991-06-12, Court Tavern, New Brunswick 19xx-xx-xx, original Albini mixes Sources: http://db.etree.org/ http://www.phishhook.com http://threelobed.com/trade/list.txt http://www.geocities.com/nimskicksass/list.htm http://www.rappard.dds.nl/music/cdrs/slint.htm If you have any info that's missing here or see some errors, please let me know!
