I've owned both of these - mp2 sounds great, the beyer
sounds like ass..I bought mine cuz it was the cheapest
thing around back then to plug my mics into...you can
pick up a used mp2 for 450-500, prolly...great bang
for the buck...the knobs on the mp2 are a little
touchy, which can be corrected by simply pulling them
off...the beyer doesn't have variable gain on each
channel, and the low end is pretty muddy...

...please use the same percentage normalization across all
segments of the show. Don't normalize each CD independently.
At some point CDs are going to go away in favor of DVD and
folks will be reassembling shows onto a single disk. If each
CD has been normalized with respect to itself, the reassembly
will never be correct.

hiya all,
not only does the redbook layer of the 30th anniversary of dsom
sound like sh*t, those copies pressed domestically are all exhibiting
cracks areound the spindle hole. seems that the company that made the
discs used some bad chemicals in manufacturing and they are all going
bad. so, if you're gonna buy one, be sure you get the one made in japan.
you can tell the domestic ones by checking the spine for the cat #. if
it is followed by "-us", that's the bad one. also, bottom left hand
corner, if you want the good one it should say "except disc manufactured
in japan" steve
Even Dark Side of the Moon isn't sacred. There's a Stereophile article
that shows how the cd layer of the 30th anniversary re-issue was put
through a peak limiter and has clipped samples...

How does one adjust the compression on the PCM-M1? On mine it is either ALC or
limiting.
BTW, is there a non-digest, mail box, version of this list? Responding to a
post in the digest is a real P.I.T.A.

I really like my MP2. It's professional-grade stuff; when I can wear phones,
the tape return monitor capability lets me know that my M1 is at least in
record mode (would be more useful with 4-head deck, obviously). The limiters
are gentle and I've been able to adjust them and the mic gain so that I
*never* get digital clipping on the M1. The LED level meters can be seen
in direct sunlight if you need them; If you need them on in the dark, put
a couple of layers of masking tape over them to cut the light down.
Oh, it also can do a mid/side matrix and decode to L/R for just the
headphone. And the headphone amp is clean and powerful.
You could probably drive a car over the case, too.
Some people will probably cringe at this, but I covered the entire bottom
of my M1 and the top of my MP2 with Velcro, and I stick them together
and carry them on a neck strap.

that article is from september of 2002 & refers to the most recent RUSH
studio album, which really DOES sound like "dogshit" thanks to the hideous
compression/overloading, as pointed out by the article's author

That is one of my all-time pet peeves. I routinely reasswmble DAT's
from CD's and there is nothing more annoying than a fade-out > fade-in
in the middle of a song/set.

I have taped one show of their may club tour in excellent

I can send copies in advance to experienced tapers
who can provide a list of their masters.

Subject: UK Tapers needed for current Yes Tour
Date: Wed, 21 May 2003 18:47:39 -0400
Hey heads.
This message is pointed towards mercinary tapers in the UK.
In June Yes will kick off their "full circle" tour with 3 dates in small 1000-2500 seat houses, the first of which, a friday night in Dublin, looks like a taper's dream. This tour will have the strongest 70s lineup of the band featuring several long 20 minute songs and may well be the last time we see these guys get together onstage, barring one more round in the US next year.
Been busy lining up tapers for the 40 dates throughout Europe, but NOBODY can make it to the opening 3 shows, Dublin, Cardiff & Nottingham.
Here is a link that gets you all the info on ticket prices, seating, etc.:
http://www.zenponies.com/yes/yestour/tour/2003/index.html
None of them are sold out. Dublin is June 3rd, though, and is first-come, first serve; Cardiff is the 5th and is standing room.
Looking for tapers for these 3 gigs and will cover the cost of the ticket for a copy of the tape. If anyone in the rest of europe can make any of the other shows that would be great! There are a lot of places in the world where tapes don't roll or never surface, so it would be great to hear from any of you, too.
For those who have not heard these guys in years, the early part of the tour is usually very loose as they finalize the setlist, but by the 5th or 6th night they have it down and play the same setlist every night, usually tighter & tighter. This year they even get to play Glastonbury at the end of June & Montreux in mid-July.
Please feel free to forward this to anyone in the UK that you think might be game, and thanks for reading.

All,
- 2 mv692 bodies
- 3 m70 (card) capsules
- 2 m93 (omni) capsules
- works off 18v to 52v phantom
Over the past year I bought each (capsules / bodies) as a set,
however, each do NOT have sequential serial numbers. The bodies are
the older verison (Gefell still makes this mic in Germany) but are
(each body) from different eras, since one mic has a flat finish
(black) and the other w/a satin-gloss finish. However, the bodies and
capsules have been matched per their sound as pairs.
I've used these for home recording and live taping (i.e. Garaj, Fareed,
etc), and have had wonderful results. One of the omni's will need
adjustment or work since i've noticed different results in the
high/lows. Beyond that, the other 4 caps work perfect. Please
contact me w/any questions. Reason for selling: looking at yet
another guitar..
Price: $600
