The vote will conclude a process which has shown >deliberate disregard for the views and opinions of the American >people. > This is such an immensly important issue, Nightline did show on it this week. They actually took a night off from Iraq post war news to bring it out. Apparently about 6 companies have bought over 90% of the radio broadcast industry. The biggest owner of radio stations I believe was Clear Channel. They have several subsidies, that own rado staions. I believe they even own Infinity, which is, or was the company that syndicates Howard Stern. They had clips where the corporate bean counters are making it clear, all they care about is the bottom line. The services that radio has been entrusted to maintain, like local warning systems, has been dumped. These corporations can't get away from playing their playlost crap, and in the recent tornadoes in the middle of the country, people had their emergency radios wit them, to find out what was happening with the Tornadoes they could hear, ad coudn't find a radio station broadcasting about the local tornadoes. I don't know what has become of the idea, that radio, and television having a public trust to keep us informed of life and death local events, when it actually matters. If the space shutte burns up at 20 miles in the sky, and most of the pieces fall in the mississippi delta, and there is virtualy no rish to anyone, TV will cover it aroound the clock for days, but if you are in a basement scared shitless because of tornadoes coming down the block, wait until the 6 o'clock news. I definitely think this is another situation where big business's intrest is being cradled by the government, and the individual is sold out again. I'll be seding e-mails. It's also like Payola, only so big the broadcasters are the promoters. Reply-To: Date: Sat, 31 May 2003 23:12:11 -0400 Have several sets of mics (stereo matched pairs), a portable 5 xlr input mixer, Bogen stand and 3-mic t-bar, stereo bar, 9v lithium batteries, 9v nimh batteries, xlr transformers, 20 foot xlr cables, and two standard ~8ft mic boom tripod stands. I am selling only because I am moving to a small rig that can be used for both stealth and open taping (Josephson C42MPs->MP-2- >D100). All items are in outstanding condition and I have no reserve and started the items at a penny. Bidding ends tomorrow night!!! Tonight they played the 1979 (or 1980?) Bob Dylan episode, but I screwed up and missed the intros to two of the songs on my DAT. Over the last few years, I've run analog CATV -> DAT for the "Some Girls" era Stones performance, the Dead appearance, the early Costello episode, and a bunch of other artists who interest me (Simon/Harrison, SRV, Kinks, etc). I've also messed up and missed parts of the 1979 Bowie performance, and there are a bunch of others I'd like to get VHS-free copies of. Is anybody here also recording some of these rebroadcasts, or the Comedy Central (or E channel?} rebroadcasts? Has anybody with digital cable been getting digital to digital copies? I know it's kind of a narrow question, but I'm interested in maybe compiling some of the better musical performances at some point.
