Excellent condition Shure FP24! This unit is *identical* to the Sound
Devices MixPre - SD makes them and Shure simply rebrands them. It's
damn near identical - maybe actually identical - to an MP2 in sonic
qualities. Same warm transformer sound as the MP2 - I couldn't tell
the difference between the two and picked up this one because I got it
for a bit less than an MP2.
A little bit of the powder-coating has rubbed off on the front edges of
the box protecting the dials, but other than that - superb condition.
Pics available by request.
Two microphone preamp
48v or 15v phantom power
Adjustable brightness level meters
Internal AA power
External 5-14VDC power
Includes locking external DC plug (just plug, not cable)
XLR or mini-stereo output
80 or 160 Hz HPF
Limiter
For a comparison of MixPre v. MP2 features:
http://www.sounddevices.com/matrix.htm
As with the MP2, the front knobs can be removed so they're better
protected from accidental bumps in stealth/low profile situations (see
pics).

David Rawlings are the opening act. I would
like to hear tapes of the opening act, and
maybe Norah too.

FS: Oktava MC (MK) 012's Factory Matched Hyper + Card
I've only used these mics a few times, in fact i've only used the
card caps once. I am the 2nd owner and they were bought new in Dec
2002. Great sounding mics for the price but I am looking to
upgrade. If you've just been using stealth mics like csb's or dsm's
and want to make the step up this is a good first choice. MK 012's
bodies with the 10 db pads. The caps are factory matched both
hypers and cards. Mics come in small plastic cases. They also come
with not so great metal mic clips. Digital photos available upon
request.
Price is negotiable, make me an offer and we'll try and work something
out. I'd like to get this done soon though as I have some shows to
tape in less then a month and would need to sell these before new
mics :)

>The dropouts are complete silence in both channels and they last
>around a 1/3 of a second.
What you describe is very unusual and not characteristic of
soundboard recording, dat recording, cable problems, etc. I'd just
hope it doesn't happen again.
But in the meantime, you can test most of your rig by plugging
your soundboard cable into the output of a pro deck (if you have
one) or as much of the cable/attenuator rig as you can, and record
some music on your dat machine. Try wiggling the cable at each
connector. You can listen through headphones to the DAT
recorder output as you do this, or just watch the meters.
Then see if the tape playback has any more problems than the
recording.
There are some outputs and some circumstances on a soundboard
where you might lose your signal, particularly if you use the
Headphone output and the soundman uses the Solo buttons. But
the results wouldn't be as you describe them.

Hi,
Just wondering if someone could help me out, Im trying
to make a DVD and are trying to convert my DAT wav
file to AC3 using Apples Apack. Im having problems
with the sound on the quite parts sounds fine but when
a loud part comes in it sounds like it is being
compressed down, making things sound all over the
place. Apack has a dialog normalisation box which is
set to -21 by default, Im guessing this is the problem
but when I set it to -1 which its the highest it will
go it takes away the compression sound problems but it
makes the whole audio level to low. Is there anyway I
can just make an AC3 which sound exactly like my wave
file???
Cheers
Gareth

Do you like cajun music? Western Swing? Bluegrassy gypsy stuff? Old
Merle Haggard or Texas Playboys tunes? If so, PLEASE PLEASE go tape the
Red Stick Ramblers. They are taper-friendly, although
www.redstickramblers.com doesn't really say as much. Speak with Charles
the guitar player or the fine gentleman pickin' Mandolin and either will
be glad to help you get rigs in the door at some of the less
taper-friendly places they might play. Their tourdates are on their
website, and I won't repeat them for bandwidth, but they're going to be
heading out west for a bit, after the current NE swing, then back to
their homebase of LA and TX. They put on a fun show, not much talk
between songs, and they're hellaciously good musicians. They are a 6
piece, featuring guitar, of the slightly electrified variety, twin
fiddles, mandolin, double bass and drums. Their current cd [ new one due
out in august-ish? ] says "file under authentic gypsy cajun swing" which
is pretty accurate, really. It's fun, mostly acoustic music. I can't pay
your cover or anything, I'm just a fan who got hooked at Merlefest and
would like to see more RSR shows in circulation.
Namaste, will

<<Did try Nero as well but only got a CDR with one track
Maybe you added 'new (sub)indexes' instead of 'separating/splitting' the tracks?
The buttons are slightly confusing..
I find tracking with Nero easy and made it my tool of choice lately;
this includes sometimes using 90min blanks. No problem there, either!
For recording, editing to CD-sized chunks etc I use Colledit2000.
For necessary 48->44.1kHz conversions I use a 2nd deck (a 60ES).
And of course you need to allow extra sized CDs in the expert
options, but you knew that one..

Hey there,
I don't have the M-Audio card you're talking about, but here's a few ideas...
You may be clipping as the signal enters the sound card. Is there a
separate control app for the sound card itself? If so, try turning "that"
down
Also, try that -10 db pad you mentioned.
The other option is to build an adjustable stereo pad to put between the
preamp and the sound card, out of a two channel potentiometer. I did this
for my CD player to go direct into my amp. All you do is tie pot "in" to
an rca connector, pot "out" (the "slider" of the pot, this is the thing in
the schematic of the pot that has an arrow on it) to rca out, and tie the
"other" connector to ground. The "other" connector is the low side of the
pot's resistor, low being defined as the end you didn't use for the input.
For ground, just use the grounds of the rca connectors, which will all be
tied together, and will be grounded through the rca cables.... To be extra
careful, you might stick a small resistor in between the the low side of
the pot resistor and ground, so that you don't have to worry about shorting
your input directly to ground if you push the pot all the way around...
But most equipment is protected against this these days.. (right?)
If somebody knows why this will blow up, or have other bad results, feel
free to comment..

closed, so I have no idea where to go for repair.
I would like to hear from anyone that has experience with any of the
