Daniel,
In short the answer is yes. I have had an M-1 for 6 years and have on many
occasions had to fake a cough or wait for applause in order to get
everything "squared away" before a show. Has anyone else had similar
experiences?

They sound like a VHS player at times. I have mine in a shirt pocket, and at
some venues that are really quiet, when I switch it off "hold" it's very
noisy. I try to get it rolling a few minutes before the light-dim, while
folks are still yacking and getting to their seats.

With my experience with soundboards i've always gotten a stereo mix.
Whether it was a small club with a small board or whether it was a larger
venue with a huge board, i've always gotten stereo. Now, i suspect when you
get into super small venues like, The Green Door here in Oklahoma City. You
will get mono mixes. Nothings is wrong with a mono mix, you just have to
make sure that when you master the tape to CDR that you copy whatever
channel you got from the board to the channel you didn't get. Example, like
if you got the left channel out of the board, then you will need to copy the
left channel to the right channel to make a 2 channel mono mix.
Anyways, if i'm wrong in some area, i'm very sure that the veterans around
here will correct me ;).
Also, most of the boards i have gotten that were analog boards, i just used
RCA jacks. As a precaution, i would recommend keep the following 3 cables
on hand at all times, when suspecting you will get a board patch:
RCA Male > mini
Stereo 1/4" inch Male > mini
Stereo XLR Female > mini
With those 3 cables, i don't imagine their will be a board out there that
you can't patch into.
Hope this helps.
Benjamin

I am looking for someone to tape an acoustic in-store promo (free) show for me this Tuesday evening in Los Angeles; the band is power pop/rockers Fountains of Wayne. In return, I will pay for transportation and tape a show in NJ, NYC, or PA (Philadelphia area) for you. I just ordered DPA 4021's + accessories this week, so I will run those to an AETA PSP3 and Sony M1. I will use a Shure 15' stand as well.
Here is the show info:
Tuesday, June 17, 2003
Tower Records
8801 Sunset Blvd.
Los Angeles, CA
7 pm (acoustic in-store)
http://www.fountainsofwayne.com/tour/
This band used to allow taping, but they are currently not for some reason : ( It will be stealth, but I am sure very easy stealth. If you can tape this for me, it'd be very much appreciated. The set will be in the range of 20 min. - 30 min., not long at all.
Thanks for reading,
Tom Roach, NJ
