Anyone know their definite policy? I searched the BTAT site but they weren't
listed. I have an opportunity to see them at the Minnesota Zoo (amazing
amph!) in a few weeks. Thanks.

That was my comment. I remember reading it, as that tour was 12 years
ago or so? Maybe it was in someone's eBay ad trying to sell a 32.4
board. Reading it stuck in my mind.

About 12 blocks from my home is a small blues club that gets some pretty
big name national and interntionally touring blues artists. The area
where the music is, is shaped irregularly, it's an L shape. I think in
that room in particular, if you panned to either side, it would be a
mess. Also, their SBD area is in a back corner in the small part of the
L. I've seen Etta James, Junior Wells, Los Lobos, and many others who
have bee nominated for, and recieved WC Handy awards, and some
rockabilly artists like Bill Kirchen, along with numerous other artists
with recording contracts with Blind Pig, Evidence, Alligator, and more
play there. That specific room does not lend itself to stereo
separation. Also, The Coach House in San Juan Capistrano is a place
that would be about impossible to mix with some L-R pan. The venue is
about twice, or more, wide as it is deep, and there are 3 sets of
overhead speakers, 2 on diaganols in opposite directions. I've got a
few shows that were recorded there, but I never compared the 2 tracks.

The interview cited discusses the tour of last year, not the Steel Wheel
tour of the distant past. I didn't claim what I read was fact, I just
said I read it. Maybe 1991 or so was similair to 2002-3 in equipment
used. What the truth was in 1991 or so, I don't know. I think you are
right on stereo being a nice way to fill the house, but it varies from
house to house, and with the little bit of playing with a mixer I've
done, I'd feel sorry for anyone who paid $75 for a crappy seat at MSG,
to hear what I did with 64 channels. It probably takes the guys who are
professionals quite a few hours to get the sound right.

Subject: Newbie Soundcard Transfer Question
Date: Thu, 19 Jun 2003 18:13:01 -0500
First of all, thanks again to all those that helped me find the
necesarry equiptment to pull of a soundboard with my new (to me) D8. I
have a couple other questions as well. First of all, soundcard
recomendations would be very appreciated. I am looking at the audigy 2
platinum, I have heard the audigy 1 had sampling problems, any feedback
about 2? I was also lucky enough to meet a taper who got an audience
recording with his D7 and we are looking to mix them. The reason for
the mixing is the guitar and bass are very soft in comparison to the
vocals and drums, because they needed to be applified through the PA.
Second question, is there a way to amplify the guitars to meet the
levels of the drums-vocals. Third question is how should I go about
mixing the audience (for guitars) and soundboard (for vocals-drums).
Thanks again for all the help, I would be more than glad to share the
end product with everyone. The show was Dredg at the Elbo Room in
chicago and for the board survey, the output was 2 channel mono, with
the left speaker having a higher level than the right.

Subject: DAT & CDR STORAGE SOLUTION FOUND!!!
Date: Thu, 19 Jun 2003 20:39:08 -0400
For a while now I have been trying to determine what storage solution
would work well for my CDRs and in particular my DATs. Since I don't
display my DATs, I wanted a container that could safely store them
indefinitly. For my CDRs, I wanted a way to keep them safe and away
from UV light, etc. but still easily searchable and simply organized.
Today I think I found the ANSWER!
I was at an Army/Navy store to pickup uniform parts for my Navy
training (I leave for San Diego, CA this Monday) and I saw these metal
ammo boxes. I had seen them many times on ships and when we'd shoot
the weapons, but they always threw them overboard. It imedeately
dawned on me that these things were standard sizes. After taking a
quick measure w/ a ruler they had, I found out that the 30 CAL
container (on the side it says: 200 Cartridges, 7.62MM NATO M80
Cartons, M13, etc.) fit DAT tapes PERFECTLY!!! Also, by nature, these
things are virutally indestructable. They are meant to be water-proof
to over 100 feet (and this one is, when i opened it it had been
sitting in the sun and it sounded like i was opening a soda can, it's
truely air-tight!). Additionally, they are mean to resist heat from a
fire (so the ammo wouldn't explode), and they use a dense but light
weight metal (probably aluminum) for the shell. So, I purchased 1
used can for $5. I just tried putting my DATs in it, it holds ~40 of
them very nice and snug. The interior dimensions are as follows:
Width 3.5" / Length 10" / Depth 6.75"
I plan to buy about 3 more. I was told by the guy he could order
unlimited ammounts, if anyone here wants some I may look into it more.
In regards to the CDRs, there was a slightly larger can (50 CAL):
Width 5.5" / Length 11" / Depth 6.75"
I did not purchase this, it was for $8. My measurements tell me this
will snugly fit both CDR cases AND those case-logic cd slips. I
estimate it will hold 350 CDRs and they will be very easily viewable.
Additionally, they will be air-tight and UV protected, etc.
So, this is how I plan to store my master DATs as well as my data
and .shn-backup CDRs!

Maybe it's just me but it took a long time to get a clean and COMPLETE copy
of this show. Being so, I'd like to offer it up to the list. Because of
time constraints & other trades I'm only offering this in DAT format.

Nakamichi CM-300 (cp4)>Nakamichi 550 Master>analog 1st or 2nd gen.>Nakamichi
CR-7A>Sony PCM R500
DO NOT be alarmed by the analog generations. Since I don't know for a fact
whether it's 1st or 2nd gen. I have to allow room for error but I do believe
it's 1st because you can BARELY hear any hiss. You have to really turn it
up & even then it's hardly anything. Considering the standards on this list
I feel pretty safe in saying that no one will be disappointed. I'll take
the first 5 B&P's. Also, you have to send me a 2 hour DAT as I will be
transferring it via Tascam DA 20 MK II digi out>Sony 7 pin > D8
The only trade I'll consider is if someone has video footage of this show
but I seriously doubt it. Sorry to be so Nazi but I'm really busy. I do
however want to thank Mr. Karma & Marc Kim for hooking me up. Chris

Hi there,
just wondered whether anyone else wants a clone of the Metallica headlining
show at this years german "Rock am Ring" Festival june 8th 2003. The entire
show has been broadcast here in Germany in without any breaks and I'm doing a
few clones for fellow DATheads.
The show was some 125minutes long and FINALLY Metallica goes back to its
roots after almost a decade of pussy music, cover tunes, ballads and selling
out....extra hard setlist, cool and HEAVY soundmix... several new songs with the
rest of the setlist from the early 80s to the early 90s (Creeping Death, Seek
and Destroy,No Remorse,..)
Best,

Well, due to financial troubles......brought on by not working since
January, I have to part with some of my gear. Here's the deal:
Tascam DA-P1 approx 3 years old. Works GREAT, used only to record, as
playback & duplication is my DA-302s job. The case was autographed by Keller
Williams & Warren Haynes.....The W.H. auto is hard to read, as it was done
w/a black sharpie. The deck is nice both mechanically & cosmettically.
EcoCharge charger & 2 battery packs. I've run the deck using phantom power
for the mics for 5 1/2 hours before on ONE battery with no problem.
Earthworks SR-77 mics. These things sound AWESOME! great condition.
I'll also include a box of 10 blank Sony tapes.
I'll sell the whole outfit for $1,350.00 shipped UPS ground insured. If
nobody wants the whole rig by the end of the week, I'll split it up. I will
only take a money order or cashiers check, as I've been burned before. :-(

Subject: 125m or 150m: Out Of The Question?
Date: 20 Jun 2003 16:07:35 -0000
Hey gang,
I think I know the answer to this, but I'll ask anyway. I had a Sony
60ES for a while that I basically played with, and then sold in favor
of other technology. That was probably about 4-5 years ago, when I
don't *think* 150m (that would be meter) DDS tapes were around.
Curious, if I grabbed a used deck to play with again, can I use some
of my used 150m tapes that I have retired from computer data backup?
I know the FAQ says to use 60m, and 90m might be ok. But is 150m just
completely out of the question and asburd to consider using (for
personal use....of course I'd never try to trade with them)? Will
they snap, or wear out the decks motors?
Is the same true for 125m?
Thanks,
Rob Mazur
