Be very careful storing any magnetic media in metal containers. Remember metal can get magnetized, if this happens you chance ruining any magnetic media stored inside them. Naturally I've tried them in my DAT machines. I've never had any ill effects from them, but I haven't done all that much with them. If I have to record like a long radio show or something, I'll possibly use a 120 or 125 meter tape to get 4 hours (8 with LP). I also have DDS-2 and DDS-3 audio capable drives which were designed for their respective tapes and in audio mode, they'll just chug right along for the entire length of the tape. In the DDS world, I haven't noticed any real differences in the DDS-1 v. DDS-2 v. DDS-3 tape mechanisms and of course, all DDS drives are backward compatible with older DDS formats, so it seems to me that it is unlikely that there is much of a mechanical difference in the mechanisms (I'm sure I'll catch hell for stating that). I wouldn't worry too much about it. The worst I can see happening is a snapped tape, but don't hold me responsible for any damage you might end up with as a result. Hans ------------------------------ From: pwking Subject: CDr spindle mystery grab bag housecleaning offer Date: Sat, 21 Jun 2003 08:10:16 -0700 (PDT) hi -- i've got a stack of 50 CDrs that i'd like to find a home for. many of them are in .shn or .flac format, many are audio, but all of them are high quality that anyone would do well to add to their collection. i'm purging myself of the audio disks because i've converted them to .shn for my permanent archive, and i'm purging myself of the .shn disks because i've re-encoded them, in most cases because they were encoded without seektables the first time around which is a major pet peeve of mine. SO... they're yours, if you want them. the catch? i'm not listing the contents. it'd take me a good 90 minutes or more to properly note what's in the batch, and i don't have that kind of free time. So let's just call it a Mystery Grab Bag! it's a pretty interesting mix of jazz, rock, alt-rock, and the like. no jambands! it's all good stuff! all i want is someone to send me a new spindle of TDK Taiyo Yuden 80 minute disks + return postage and the Mystery Grab Bag is yours! i'm also interested in sealing this deal ASAP, so we've got to get this underway within 24 hours. all you've really got to do is order a spindle from bestbuy, staples, wherever, ship it to me, then paypal me money to ship the Grab Bag back to you, so there's no reason why someone interested in this can't make it happen quickly. ready, set, go, the first recipient who promises to get his end of the deal underway quickly wins! cheers, peter __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
