For CHICAGO RADIO listeners:
WXRT will be broadcasting the Sheryl Crow Taste Of Chicago concert on 7/5
(Saturday). Since I will be at the show taping it, I really want someone to
record the radio broadcast for me to DAT. I'll offer any 2 shows off my
site if some kind soul can help me.
Thanks in advance........

Eric - you may care to research this a little before
making blanket statements like this.
Many, many people use 4x D cell sleds to power their
M1s. These deliver - ahem - 6V when used with Alkalines.
But don't believe me - use any www search engine and
search for "Sony M1 6V battery". Although you will find
many warnings against doing this, you will also find many
who say it works fine and they have been doing this
for years.
Even when used with NiCads or NiMH cells, which are
nominally rated at 1.2V each & thus delivering 4.8V total,
when the cells are freshly charged they actually deliver
close to 1.5V each, meaning you are feeding 6V to your
unit again for at least couple of hours after every recharge.
Which means... if 6V can power the unit fine, then 5V
is even safer!
(Sigh) I would have thought this was obvious....

I am trying to record concerts from before that, the latest from maybe
91, and they all still had a digital stage. It has become very
difficult to find shows on DAT also. IMO, DAT sounds better than CD,
and if I could get what I looked for on DAT, I'd be less inclined to use
R2R. I bought 2 of the R2R decks I have to record primarily LP's to
reels. I decided to try recording from my HD tto reel, using an D>A
converter. In general I am happy with the sound, except it seems the
Power saving utilities don't want to shut off even in CMOS, and they
cause skips and DO's. In the end, we all like the sound we like. I'm
finding I like the sound of everything better than CD. I'm also not
trying to tell anyone to do what i like.

That's a nice Turntable set up. Personally, it's more than i would ever
spend on a table. Does a table like that nt cause any wear on records?
The main reason I got back into reel, was to save the records, by
listening to reels. My TT is not close to that quality, and don't
imagine it ever would be. Hopefully, I will wind up with a Technics
1200 and a $500 or so cartrige.

They Might Be Giants were the guest on John Schaeffer's Soundcheck program
on WNYC FM today. I thought there might be some interest in the appearance
so I recorded it direct to CDR off of the radio.
If anyone is interested email me back channel.

Yo Gang,
I loved my J3 at first when it worked. I have since broke 2 of them. the input jack for the optical/line is is real sensative. Both got flakey and intermitent. On top of that the customer support blows.. They gave me wrong instrucions suggesting I reinstall the operating system. After deleting the OS they informed me I could not reinstall with out the original firmware which is no longer available on their site. They were giving me instructiosn without reading what the previous tech support wrote and contradicting themselves. I vote if you get a J3 baby it like nothign you have ever owned.. SO basically I have 2 J3s that don't work. The price compared to DAT tapes is tempting to buy another but I want to hold out till something better coems along.
I loved it when it worked but they both crapped out.
my .02 cents.. (Jamie, go ahead and tell me.. "told ya so".. haha hope you're WEll.) I want to add how disapointed I am in PHISH.. $150 for an IT ticket and noones got their MOs yet.. Sad days....

I have 2 extra seats for the Allman Brothers Band at the Greek in Los
Angeles on 9/7. These are the back row of the Orchestra, Sec A, Row X,
Seats 5+7. They are in a disabled section, with me and a friend. I am
disabled, so there is no problem sitting there. If you'd like, I can
make you a Disabled Placard, and if you get there early, you can get
free parking right next to the entrance. Just buy a cane and fake a
limp. The only tickets left are on the terrace off to the side, behind
these seats. These seats will be less than 25 rows back, in front of
Gregg and Derek I'd like to get the $140 the tickets cost, with
Ticketmaster fees.

creative has yet to release a firmware that is consistently bit-accurate.
however, many people have decided its close enough for their needs and are

Here we go again. The old and tired debate of CD vs. Vinyl.
If you old fogies would just accept and learn about today's technology you'd
go out and buy yourself an EQ (equalizer) to make your digital CDs sound
better. With warmer sound and more bass, just like your old scratched up
vinyl records. But the biggest difference, no annoying pops and clicks.
But I guess you can't teach an old dog new tricks.
My 2 cents:
I find records to be annoying as hell with all that noise, especially
between songs!
Death to Vinyl!

I had initially purchased these tickets for a friend who wanted to goto the
show, but he's since cancelled. He doesn't have a credit card so I paid for
the tickets and now he's left me with the burden of selling them.
I am selling 2 tickets to see the Boss in concert on the 13th of August at
the U.S. Cellular field in Chicago IL. Tickets are perfect on the floor in
section E3 row 14. Just looking to get back face for these. The total came
to $177 and that's all i want. if you're paying via paypal (which i'd
actually prefer) I'd like a few extra bucks just to cover the transaction
fees paypal tacks on. Also some money to cover the shipping of your choice
If you're interested please let me know.
Thanks for the time

My landlord has asked me to give up one of my large satellite
dishes, and since I'm really only using one, I was wondering if any
DAT-Head in the LA area might want it. It's a Unimesh 12-foot dish
with an H-H motor and a C-band Polarotor/LNB assembly. Free if
you can move it.
I'm not offering a free receiver but you can pick up a used one
around $100 or less.
More details on what you can do with a large satellite dish to any
interested party...

I am having a loading problem with my D8. The tape appears to load fine,
records during the show, show levels, a-time etc. When I eject the tape
I find that although the deck ran the entire show at the end the deck
has "eaten the tape" (perhaps when the stop butten was pressed). After
I retention the tape by hand and play back in another deck I find there
is nothing written to the tape.
I know others here have had a similar problems. Can anyone who had this
fixed tell me how much the repair charge was and if it successfully
fixed the problem?
Also I am debating wheather or not to send my deck to Pro Digital or
Sony flat rate repair.
Has anyone used Sony flat rate repair recently? I seem to remember
hearing about problems with their DAT repair service recently.
Thanks,
Joe
