Does anyone have any recent experience openly taping Ryan Adams with a
stand, etc.?
I've heard that he allows open taping, but just wanted to find out if they
prepare the venue.
I'm going to attend his show here in NYC in Battery Park on 7/4 and am
wondering what to expect, and if anyone knows any sympathetic crew members'
names that I could drop if I have trouble.
Thanks!
Scott Bernstein

Likewise, I've had two of these over the last year, each one has been rma'd,
on thats when it mysteriously dies. I still put up with the other glitches
(such as this morning on my way to work when a song turned into a loud
BZZZZZZZZZ, and the unit had to be reset. It happens frequently enough that
this unit does not warrant being called 'stable' by any stretch of the
imagination (thats not even considering its recording inabilities, just
performance and stability in general)

9 months ago, I would have agreed with you. That was before I listened
to a LP for the first time in almost 20 years. All my LP's were stolen
bck then, and when I bought new music, after a few LP's, I scrapped
them, gave them away, bought a CD player and CD's. Interestingly, I
stoped using an EQ when I started using CD's. I found the EQ, with an
additional pre-amp in it, was to much for use with CD's, and gave that
away. Personally, I rarely listen to LP's. I record them to reel, then
they sound brand new for a long time. I just bought a 180 G Vinyl of
"The Paul Butterfield Blues Band", their first record, and Bob Dylan's
"Blonde in Blonde".
However, I won't stoop to telling other's what to listen to, or what
kind of equipment they shouldn't have. Did somebody get ht with a
record thrown like a frisbee or something though?

seth mentioned google-ing "plextor";
google has recently come up with a "shopping" search engine called froogle
you can read about it at http://froogle.google.com/froogle/about.html
or just go to http://froogle.google.com/froogle to use it...

This show rocked and I was so excited to get home and hear my recording, when
my life was shattered. My 2nd set had digi noise and dropouts throughout the
recording. The copies I have are stellar, of course without the digi noise.
Is there anyone on the list that was there and could help set me up with a
sick copy of the show? I can trade or B+P, or I will be recording the Utah and
Montana shows if you want to trade for those. I have pulled nothing but
stellar recordings from the 2 Montana venues. Please let me know.
thanks,
Brady

This directly contradicts what other's have found through
testing. Please be specific about the nature of the
inaccuracies and describe how you determined them?
(Why does this list only have an archive form? That makes
constructing replies a real PITA.)

The internals on the PCM-1 use two AA cells. This is 3v by your reckoning,
tapering off to about 2.2 before it quits. The "4.5" volt supply that comes
with it is actually 5.05 volts open circuit, dropping to 4.9 volts with a
500 ma load, so that it has an equivalent resistance of .3 ohms, meaning
that at rated load it will be at 4.8 volts, roughly.
It would thus seem that even in theory, the unit will operate at 5 volts.
4 Ni-Cd or Ni-Mh would not be unreasonable.
What happens if we go over that?, or what happens to the difference
between the external voltage and the two cells supplied?
Clearly, either there is an internal regulator, or a wide tolerance. In
either case, the extra voltage, times the current drain is going up as heat.
About a watt and a half, that comes out to, not much, but in pretty close
quarters, noticeable.
I take it that the 8 cells are connected as two banks of four in
parallel?
Why not just use three C cells?

Nothin' beats a Georgia pre-amp in my opinion...have to let this one
go for the time being.
Mint condition, no scratches, perfect condition
Comes with a custom made padded case and wall wart for re-charging.
New ones are $1,300.00 plus tax plus shipping plus waiting 8 months
for delivery
This one is $1,250.00 and i'll pay shipping and insurance and it will
get there much quicker.
thanks for listening.

Ummm! So the PCM-M1 may be powered by 4 to 6 volts. This would seem
reasonable if it has some kind of smart power supply. Does anyone with a
schematic and electrical smarts know what happens to this varying voltage
after it enters the PCM-M1. Is there some kind of regulation that converts
it to whatever the PCM-M1 actually longs for? Just curious.
I have seen other Sony products with undocumented abilities. I have an
SLV-N900 NTSC VHS VCR. For some undocumented reason it also plays S-VHS
tapes and much to my surprise it plays PAL VHS tapes with no problems.

Anyone planning in being in the Okemah, OK area next week for the Guthrie
Free Folks Festival? Some really great artists will be playing, and its
FREE! Unfortunately, these great artists will be playing Woody Guthrie
songs, so its not for everyone but the die-hard folkies.. Many of them are
taper-friendly, and I am sure that Woody would have wanted it that way!
Just had a baby girl, and if I were to go, I would surely come home to an
empty house and some divorce attorneys!
If you go, tape. If you tape, let me know!
Thanks!

Is anybody taping this one?
Blossom Music Center in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio.
July 20, 2003
I'm planning to drive down with a friend from Toronto (since there are
no Canadian dates) and would rather just ENJOY the show for a change
since I have pit tickets.
Would love to know of anybody's plans to tape or what-not so that it
doesn't go missed if nobody is planning to.
All help appreciated.

I have a Sony D-8 for sale that is in excellent condition. I only used it
for recording for about 3 months until I got a M1. There is very little
playback time on it and has never given me any problems. Comes with the
leather case. I thought i'd offer it up here before going to ebay. Asking
$350 or best offer.
Thanks

The list is a "digest" in standard format and many mail readers
support "bursting" digests so that one can reply as individual
messages. I suggest you figure out how to use a good mail
client.
Why do people on the list these days not care to figure out things
for themselves? (eg. replying to digests, sending plain text...)
(This is tongue in cheek sarcasm as I am happy to help people out,
but stupid stuff like the above to the digest is a bit much after
12+ years of providing this service for free.)

Los Lobos shows this coming weekend:
7-5-03 Mainstage - SpiritFest, Liberty Memorial, Kansas City MO
7-6-03 Summerfest, Milwaukee WI
Please get in touch if you can catch either of these shows
