Please be specific about the nature of the > inaccuracies and describe how you determined them? actually, Bob, AFAIK, my tests were the only actual tests with multiple equipment doing digital analysis of the resulting waveform, all other tests were 'it works ok with my setup' or 'sounds good to me'. hardly extensive by any stretch of the imagination. search the dat-heads archive, this has been discussed ad nauseum. ------------------------------ From: Andrew Nemeth Subject: Re: PCM-1 DC Supplies Date: Thu, 3 Jul 2003 06:59:48 +1000 On Thursday, July 3, 2003, at 04:50 AM, "lewis t. The resulting 12V or 9.6V, depending on whether the cells are alkaline or rechargeable, is fed to a small circuit which regulates the voltage down to 5V +/- 0.1 V. > Why not just use three C cells? Because you cannot use a 3x cell solution with rechargeable batteries (it would only deliver 3.6V total). This way the pack can use any kind of AA battery and yet always deliver 5V. Also, from a manufacturing viewpoint, I can also use the same battery holder for the 9V solution, all I have to change is one component in the voltage regulation circuit. Finally, although C cells deliver a greater punch, the AA pack is much more compact (it's half the length of a 4x C cell sled). It's supposed to take about 8 hours to charge the batteries. If I charge them for more than recomended time, will it ruin the batteries? Keith ------------------------------ From: thesmashingpumpkins-33@juno.com Subject: ISO tapers for FOUNTAINS OF WAYNE ("pop rock" band) Date: Thu, 3 Jul 2003 05:49:11 GMT Hey everyone, enjoying the new month so far? I am trying : ) Anyway, one of my favorite bands is starting their tour tonight in Milwaukee at SUMMERFEST. They are opening for WILCO, who are taper-friendly with stands. Fountains of Wayne sometimes allows stands and board patches--you just have to ask them ahead of time. If not, they don't give a damn if you stealth right in front of them. Most people that tape Fountains of Wayne (if anyone bothers) only uses cheaper equipment and the recordings rarely get circulated (properly or at all). I recently bought a pair of DPA 4021 microphones, and also have an AETA PSP3 preamp and Sony M1 DAT. I can tape a show or two for someone in NJ, Philadelphia, or NYC area in return. Also, all expenses are on me (travel, ticket, batteries, tape, shipping). One of the members was in The Posies way back when. Another member wrote "That Thing You Do," wrote and sang in "The Ambiguously Gay Duo" for SNL; the band is heard in the final scene of Scary Movie, and they wrote and performed the theme song for Comedy Central's 'CRANK YANKERS." Their music is great and the sets are a little over an hour. Opener on the tour is Ben Lee. Date: Thu, 3 Jul 2003 11:50:07 -0700 (PDT) After almost three years of dedicated service in the field, blew the logic board of my M1 at Jones Beach the other night while trying to get Neil's show. :-( It records 20 min, rewinds 10 and stops (did this 4 times during the one show). Sent it back to SONY for the $120 check up, and they can't find anything wrong, even though I know what the problem is, based on the accounts of others (thanks Rich) .... asked them for an estimate on the logic board replacement ... they send me a quote for an additional $420!!! "F" SONY. (Why invest $640 in an old machine when you can buy a new one for almost the same $$$ ?)Guess I have an expensive paperweight on my hands. Before buying another M1, I was wondering what else to consider ... I use Schoeps CCM4 mic's, and am looking for something small (like the M1) that will produce a high quality recording. Any suggestions? PhilD __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? SBC Yahoo!
