Thanks Tom ------------------------------ From: "Slipkid" Subject: porcupine tree Reply-To: "Slipkid" Date: Tue, 8 Jul 2003 19:54:13 -0400 regarding my post yesterday about porcupine tree on tour now with opeth...i've had several people ask me the same questions about them so let me try answering here for anyone else curious regarding if they are taper friendly, the band do not mind their fans taping and trading the shows for non-profit, but they don't want to get involved in supporting it overtly at this point (i'm hoping maybe some day that will change & we can tape them openly, but for now, stealth is necessary) as far as getting a better idea what they are like than my description, i highly recommend these websites: http://www.ssmt-reviews.com/db/searchrev.php?artistID=907&showReview=true http://www.porcupinetree.com/ http://www.pt-fans.com/ as far as them touring with OPETH, note that it is supposed to be a co-headline tour with each band getting a full set, but taking turns as to who opens/closes each show.....also note that OPETH is a swedish "death metal" type band with "growling cookie monster vocals" whose last album was far from the death metal vein with NO cookie monster vocals (i love it but i hate their other albums) & hopefully (to me at least) on this tour they will not be doing the death metal stuff (if you're already into OPETH then you may not like what they may be doing this tour, much softer stuff??? but i really don't know for sure yet until i hear some tour reports) so i suggest you call ahead to the venues if you want to avoid one band or the other to find out who is on first etc regards, - jon - slipkid@voicenet.com ------------------------------ From: "Josh Durham" Subject: FS: Sony M1 and DPA 4061's Reply-To: "Josh Durham" Date: Tue, 8 Jul 2003 21:18:43 -0400 After a couple of years of sporadic use, I've decided to part with my taping setup and put the money into my Home Theater. I'm selling my trusty Sony PCM-M1, which I bought from American Digital about 3 years ago. I'd estimate there's only 200-300 hours use on the heads as I only taped about 20 shows and it was used sparingly as my second deck. There is a small cosmetic scatch on the front casing. There is an extended warranty, but I need to check into whether that can be transferred and how much time is left. Please email me with any questions. I'd like to sell the M1 as a package with a pair of DPA-4061's, but I am flexible. These were direct from a DPA distributor also purchased at the same time. They have micro-dot connectors and a batt-box that I built myself. They have consecutive serial numbers. Please email me with any questions. I'd like to sell these on list, but if there are no buyers I will put it up on Ebay in the next couple of weeks. My Ebay username is: nutty08. Please email me with any questions. thanks --joSH Trade DAT/CDR? http://www.geocities.com/nutty08/datlist.html ------------------------------ From: "lee b" Subject: World Cafe Date: Wed, 09 Jul 2003 03:40:14 +0000 If anyone happens to capture the "World Cafe" fm broadcast of Rani Arbo & Daisy Mayhem, I'd appreciate hearing from you. I keep getting inquiries on splitting up the items and have held onto email addresses to follow up on this but want to make one last effort to sell this as a package - so much easier. Please don't send me an email saying you'll buy it for a certain price and when I accept, then you email back saying you've decided on some other brand of mic's or you only want one item. I have already dealt with a handful of inquiries like that and it gets tiring. The complete list follows. $1,700 firm - I paid over $3,000 for this gear and all is in mint condition. I will deliver in NYC or upstate NY/north NJ area or split shipping costs within US. Mint condition: One each of all items Pair sequentially numbered Neumann KM184 cardioid mic's with original wooden box, mounts and windscreens Sony M1 portable DAT recorder - purchased this as a demo unit and it was reserved for use in transferring tapes only - it has not seen field use - all boxes, manuals, charger etc included. Very low hours of use. Sony dual SPDIF coax cable - can be used for input and/or output - allows interconnection to external DA convertor and external mic preamp and also connection to digital sound card for transfers to PC Ecocharge Sigma Plus rechargeable battery system - it will power the M1 for many, many hours and has option of also powering the SONY SBM-1 external AD convertor if you have one (it has dual AC connectors for Sony devices) Denecke AD20 Analogue to Digital convertor and mic preamp - better sound quality and lower noise floor than the onboard electronics of the Sony M1 - has XLR inputs and mini-plug output with convertor to SPDIF coax connector for use with Sony SPDIF digital coax cable. Also has a secondary Toslink optical output for connection to MiniDisc recorders or other devices with optical input. Denecke PS2 Dual phantom power supply to feed mic signals to the AD20 Custom "sled" from "Sound Professionals - holds multiple standard 9 volt batteries - allows long duration use of AD20 and PS2 without changing batteries - professionally built (not a home-built project box) 15 foot black lightstand with microphone adapter - heavy duty 8 foot black light stand with microphone adapter - sturdy but light and portable Lowe Pro Padded zipper bag - ideal for carrying M1, AD20, PS2 and stealth mics. It is small and portable - not large enough to carry all gear 20 foot pair XLR Monster Cables 6 foot pair XLR Monster cables 20 foot pair Audio Technica XLR cables as backup 6 foot pair Audio Technica cables as backup This equipment saw minimal use over a two year period and my current circumstances allow me to tape on an infrequent basis. I am keeping my second M1 and stealth mic's for other use. Owen O'Neill Rutherford NJ __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? SBC Yahoo! Firstly, are there any people out there kind enough to consider a B&P deal to get my live music collection happening? I am mainly into the alternative genre, which is still hard to pigeonhole. Bands like Pearl Jam, Audioslave, etc are right up my alley but also I have a keen interest in Australian (as I am in Australia) music... I assume most traders deal in CD-R format, so if you would be kind enough to consider a deal please make contact with me to discuss further or include a URL of your lists if appropriate. Secondly, thanks to all of you who read my first post about 1 week ago and replied with their thoughts on DAT v MD Recorders. I apologise if I am doubling up by asking this - however, I am very new to the recording game, so much so that I don't even have a Recorder! I was contemplating DAT Recorder, then MD Recorder and all of a sudden become aware of the Nomad Jukebox 3. Since doing more research following the varying responses I have received, I have started looking into the Nomad Jukebox 3 by Creative. Does anyone know if Creative plans to bring out a Jukebox 4 - that may be smaller than the Jukebox 3, or will all the firmware and drivers just update and improve the current sized Recorder? Are most of the updates that can be downloaded to the NJ3 making the Recorder more popular with the tapers who may think of it more as a gimmick, preferring their own DAT or MD Recorders? As far as using this Recorder (NJ3) for stealth (assuming I get a decent mic), is it any good, or too bulky and suspicious looking? I would appreciate any thoughts people have on the comparisons between DAT and now the NJ3.... I promise not to make this a regular thing (naive questions) and am keen to learn the basics and work up from there. Kind regards and apologies if you have already read something similar recently via an individual post elsewhere. I may be annoying you but I mean well! stunt_show _________________________________________________________________ Hot chart ringtones and polyphonics. Just about all the headlining bands are popu= lar with tapers, so why not?=20 What I will do is make one post to DAT-Heads per week, showing the updated = list. What I ask now is for anyone who has taped or plans to tape the fest,= to send me an email with: 1. their equipment setup. this can be MD or DAT, doesn't matter. 2. which date(s) they are recording. 3. which artists they are recording. =20 4. first name or nickname is fine. This should make for some easy trading among Lolla tapers! BWT: GD 8/27/1972 ------------------------------ From: Keith Bode Subject: Rr:looking for receiver w/ lots of digital inputs Date: Wed, 09 Jul 2003 11:31:11 -0700 Almost all recievers are set up with several digital inputs. Unfortunately, all are set up as Home theater systems. I haven't looked at audiophile grade Preamps and amps to check them out for digital input, as I have my doubts to the units having digital inputs. Also, if you want the best sound possible, having an amp with digital inputs, and an internal A>D converter is not the best idea. To my knowledge, no audio amplifiers process digital signals, only analog. Personally I am looking towards a audiophile amp, and external D>A conversion. I really would love to have a classic Macintosh or Marantz. On the other hand, an ES model Sony, Integra, or ther even higher end current components would probably be aable to produce pretty good sound.
