I'll be the first to admit I'm not that familiar with Porcupine Tree's material. I do like what I've heard and am clueless regarding their taping policy. I also haven't kept up on the digests so I'm not if this has been posted. Opeth on the other hand is playing the mellower side of their catalog including their latest masterpiece "Damnation" in it's entirety! Acoustic 70's -ish prog. Opeth have an open taping policy for both audio/video. Heard it right from the horse's mouth - Peter Lingren in this case. Thanks very much in advance... Date: Thu, 24 Jul 2003 10:29:47 EDT THIS IS A REPOST OF MY PREVIOUS POST THAT SOMEHOW DIDN'T COME OUT IN ANY LANGUAGE ANY OF US KNOW >>Okay guys, everyone got that? No taping Bob Dylan cuz security will be watching you!>> Personally, I really don't think Bob Dylan is ever worth taping. I've been to plenty of his shows and taped him plenty of times in the past two decades. There was a time when he played with the Dead (and/or opened for the Dead), and he never had a problem with us tapers. I never found any of those recordings to be enjoyable to listen to. Either his rock band was too loud and his vocals were too low, or the sound just sucked in general! He's been doing the same stuff for years and thinks someone will make money off his recordings in some way. Maybe he thinks it will hurt his recording sales. Or, most probably, he just thinks he's too damn great a performer, and we tapers are nothing but leaches and pieces of shit. In any case, I wouldn't even give him the consideration to listen to his performances when he opens up for the Dead. I'll just go out to the concession area and hang out till he's done doing what he thinks is so great! I wonder if Dylan will try to stop tapers from taping him when he comes out and joins the Dead for a song? He should do the same thing as was done when he make a guest appearance with the Dead back in 1994 at MSG ( believe it was the Monday show). Namely, his mic was never turned on! You saw him on stage, but no one heard him. ------------------------------ From: "Bob Siegl" Subject: shakedown Date: Thu, 24 Jul 2003 15:05:49 +0000 this sounds like something from an episode of the sopranos or a chapter of joe's garage. if i were to hum the bars of a snappy muzak tune i just heard on the elevator and john ashcroft didint hear me, have i broken any laws? laws are only broken when you get caught. why have a list posted on line anyway? >if I got up during setbreak and performed Ripple on my acoustic guitar in >front of a crowded bar - nobody could collect any money from me for >playing the song..... No, but the bar is paying ASCAP or BMI a licensing fee that, in the abstract anyway, is supposed to compensate the writers of the songs being played. Some venues have dropped live music because they couldn't (or wouldn't) pay the licensing fee. So maybe no one's collecting money from *you* to play Ripple in a crowded bar, but someone's collecting money from the bar for you playing the song... _________________________________________________________________ Add photos to your e-mail with MSN 8. They come with removable clips, right angle connector, windscreens, and a battery box that has the switchable bass roll off filter. They are in excellent shape, look brand new. They have been sitting in a Pelican case in storage ever since I upgraded to the Core Sound High End Binaurals. I paid close to $275 for them brand new and am looking to get about $170 to $160 for them. Thank you. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! My liteon 52X burns flawless discs in 2 1/2 minutes. I' have probably burned close to 1000 discs at this speed over the last 6 mos. But I also use TY fuji's exclusively (the only way to go, imho, considering they ar elike 10 cents a piece when you buy em in bulk with rebates. I purchased this microphone set brandnew in December of 1999 (first and only owner). I've since taped several dozen shows with excellent results. The matched microphone pair cost me $450.00 USD (DSM-6S /L) and the switchable battery box cost $200.00 USD (PA-6LC3B 85/170/250). The mics are being sold with original receipt, packaging, documentation/instructions and carrying case. I've kept these mics in perfect condition in their protective case when not using. Never had any problems and never needed them serviced. The below links are pictures of the mics (taken on 7/24/03) as well as clips from the last four recordings I have made with the mics.
