Food for thought. right - that "food for thought" is FOR ANYONE USING A STANDALONE BURNER, which afaik burn at 1x speed, and those will perform more reliabily using media SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED for burning at 1x speed, such as that sold by HHB for people using PC burners, which are designed to burn more reliably at faster speeds than at slower speeds, they would be better off using media rated for the higher speeds, and burn at those speeds recommended for their equipment more info on the non-issue of speed & CD-R burners for those interested: http://www.cdrfaq.org/faq03.html#S3-31 http://www.emedialive.com/EM2000/starrett5.html some worthwhile excerpts on speed: "...if you want to make your audio discs with the screamingest, fastest, baddest recorder on the block, go ahead. Let the timid confine themselves to recording at a snail's pace with the hope of improved audio quality. You know better." and "Put simply, there's more to writing at high speed than just spinning faster. It's entirely possible that writing slowly to "high-speed" media will produce significantly worse results than writing to it quickly. There is no One True Answer to this question. Do what works best for what you have. Some experimentation may be required." stay within the limits of your burner and the media you are using & your discs *should* be fine - but burning substantially slower than those limits (1X) can be just as bad as burning too fast!! don't shoot for 600x but don't succumb to the "slower is better" misinformation either - jon -
From: Christopher Hickman <cmh@stonepool.com> Subject: Re: Mic2496 Date: 26 Jul 2003 10:14:53 -0500 Is anyone able to give me the lowdown on the differences and similarities between the Core Sound preamp and the Sonic Studios? The latter is 2x as much, and if there is a significant improvement for 16-bit, 44.1khz recording then it's worth it, but I'm new to the world of pre-amps.... Chris
