Date: Thu, 31 Jul 2003 09:47:44 -0400 Hey, anyone out there happen to get a copy of Dio's performance opening up for Iron Maiden on their current tour? Dio is doing a particularly excellent version of Rainbow's song 'Stargazer' and I'd love to get a copy of his set. I don't care about what venue (although Camden, NJ would be great since I was at that show), as long as it's a show where Dio does Stargazer. Plenty to trade - let me know! -- -matt

From: Benjamin Cho <dpa4022@yahoo.com> Subject: Shockmounts and Mounting Questions Date: Thu, 31 Jul 2003 11:14:58 -0700 (PDT) Hi all- First off to let you know what I am trying to do, I run DPA 4022 and would like to be able to have more adjustment over mic configuration than the CXO4000 (XY/ORTF mount) offers. Right now I run the CXO4000 with a Schoeps A20S, attached with the little stud/extender bar that comes with the A20S. I was thinking about the following configuration to give me control over the included angle of the microphones; run the A20S horizontally, and use 2 CSM4000 (DPA product) shockmounts, each attached to a Schoeps extender bar. Each extender bar would be in the horizontally mounted A20S, then I can have control over the mic angling by adjusting the pivot position of the CSM4000's. A second idea I had would be to run a T-bar with pivoting clamps for the mics that can slide along the bar, that way I can have independent control over spacing and angle. Unfortunately I am not sure what my options are here for suitable t-bars and microphone clamps, can anyone give some suggestions? So I was wondering if: 1) Does the first setup seem like it will work?? Any comments? Is there a better way for me to do this that will give me more flexibility? I realize that with the first configuration I will not be able to adjust the spacing of the mics, although it looks to me like the first config will maybe take up less space than using a t-bar, which could be inportant because I like to FOB. 2) Can I purchase the extender piece that comes with the A20S on it's own? 3) If I can't, is there an alternative piece that can be used? I know DPA makes an extension bar, the EXY4000. Will the EXY4000 fit into the Schoeps A20S shockmount? Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated, hope everyone is having a good summer and making some killer tapes! Ben dpa4022 at yahoo dot com __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? From: "david gatewood" <daveg_8@hotmail.com> Subject: SP 853's Date: Thu, 31 Jul 2003 19:08:36 +0000 Since you asked specifically about the SP's, I will tell you 2 things I know about them. 1) if you don't buy the premium version, be prepared to have cable's come apart, or mismatched levels between mics. 2) You get a fairly low SPL rating, made worse by running mic-in on unmodded D7, D8, M1. I have run the REAL AT 853's since 1/96. First the 853A version, with the battery box. I paid $350/pair, and used them dozens of times in ALL envirements, mostly with good results. With the addition of an outboard pre such as an Aerco or MP2, the results are almost always very nice. These mics are indestructable. They've been squashed, rained on, dropped, and used in sub 50 deg, and 100 plus degree weather. A friend now owns them and loves them. Since selling them, I bought the 853R version, the same as Andy (Dwonk) uses. They provide direct XLR in to a pre, and give a cleaner overall sound. The A versions sometimes produced too much bass, or were slightly too bright up close. The R version sounds more neutral and can be run with 10db gain on the Aerco. I paid $300/pair for those. I have made perhaps 50 tapes with the 853's, most mounted on glasses, but some up on stands or taped to balcony rails or pillars. They are very forgiving of bad sound and noisy bars. Some of my 853 tapes are among my best ever! For the price difference between the 4061's and 853's, you can add a small pre and make some phat tapes. _________________________________________________________________ Tired of spam? From: Robert Fisher <rfisher@columbus.rr.com> Subject: The Dead Taping Policy Question Date: Thu, 31 Jul 2003 22:28:40 -0400 Hey All, I'm getting ready to catch the Indy and Columbus shows of The Dead's second leg and was looking for some info. What has the pavilion taping scene been recently? I saw at least 4 stands in the pavilion at Merriweather, but that was early in the tour. They keep reminding of a designated section, but I heard there has been alot of pavilion action. From: Greg <dat-heads@tikcuf.com> Subject: Need Help with Tapers to Tape shows (read guest list and a Date: Thu, 31 Jul 2003 23:53:56 -0400 OK, I have asked for tapers for this guy before, but this time it is special. Please read this article for complete details: http://phillyweekly.com/article.asp?ArtID=5928 Or you can go to the tour's own website http://www.fiftyinfifty.com and see for yourself the itinerary. But the bottom line is that he is going to attempt to set a new world record to get into the Guinness Book of World Records. And I worked out a deal where I can get in a taper to every show, as long as you are willing to get a copy to me (DAT, CD, SHN) and I will compile them and forward onto Adam and his label. Adam has also given permission for archive.org (http://www.archive.org/audio/etreelisting-browse.php?collection=etree&cat=Adam%20Brodsky) but I have only made the time to get 2 shows up there, more to come! So, if you or anyone you know can tape any of these shows, please email me and I will get you what you need to get in. It is 1st come/1st served on venues, and/or check this page for the tapers list (http://tikcuf.com/music/adam50in50.html). If the show is already listed as being taped, and you want to go, let me know and I will see if I can get a 2nd taper in. Aug. 3rd-Sept. 21st :: 50/50 Tour :: Guinness World Record Attempt 1. Date: Thu, 31 Jul 2003 21:45:55 -0700 (PDT) So I just got my M-Audio Duo in stadalone mode connected to my Sony TCD-D7 via a core-sound 7-pin cable. If I hit record once the headphone out of the D7 is a feed of the Duo's output (48 Khz). That all works fine. Now, if I want to start to record I hold down Record and tap Play and it starts loading the tape. Then, just before the recording should begin the pause symbol lights up and it just sits there in pause. I can't get it out of pause using the play buttons or the pause button. I have my SP/LP button set on SP. I'm missing my manual, what's going on here?
