When you start getting random errors on when using DAT2WAV, then it's
probably time to clean the drive heads. I'm used to getting errors at the
beginning and end of some tapes, but I started noticing random errors in
the middle of selections as well as terrible playback quality. Go to a
decent computer store (Fry's. MicroCenter, PCConnection.com, etc.) and buy
a DDS cleaning cartridge. These are different from the standard audio DAT
cleaner in that they have special coding (read holes in the case) that make
the drive go into a cleaning mode. I think one or two passes with a
cleaning tape fixed my problems. Unless you're heads are irreversibly worn
or the drive is out of alignment, it should help.

I like the one at
http://www.countycomm.com/bailout%20bag.htm
In addition to their description, there's some padding in at least one
of the compartments. You might also want to look at some of the
flashlights they sell.
I have no affiliation with them, except as a customer.
(I don't know if they ship to foreign countries at this time, though.
Finding someone to reship shouldn't be that hard.)

It's one thing to be anti-taper, as Bob Dylan surely is, but quite another to
refuse to contract so that his guest appearance performances could be
included on the Dead's OCRS series.
Let's go back into past history a bit and you'll find out it's totally Bob
Dylan, not his record company who is responsible for much of his irrational acts
toward tapers. I happen to have friends who work as security at the Jones
Beach Amphitheater. Some years ago when Dylan was to appear at that venue, I
was told by my friends that word came down direct from Bob Dylan regarding
tapers. His instructions were for security to grab the DAT decks of anyone they
caught taping, and then (after confiscating the tape) smash it as hard as they
could onto the concrete floor. I'm sure that Dylan would have ordered all
tapers shot in the back of the head at close range, if he could get away with it.
This guy is nothing but a complete dickhead, and I can't understand why the
Dead even allow him onto their stage when he then controls their ability to
sell their own music. Back when Jerry was alive, Bob Dylan never would have
attempted to pull what he's done here. No one ever said "No" to Jerry, and the
music was free as soon as it was played. I've taped Dylan plenty of times when
he opened up for the Grateful Deadin the past. We never were told not to run
our decks while he was playing.
Personally, I think Dylan just knows his vocals really suck now, and he
doesn't want anyone to hear it after he's done getting through destroying the
songs. They should just turn off his mics and guitar throughout the mix, and let
him just jump up and down on stage while everyone else is attempting to create
music. That happened once before at MSG during the Fall 1994 run. He made a
surprise guest appearance on stage on the Monday night show, but his mic was
never turned on. You were able to see him, but no one heard him!
Sorry to be so negative here about Dylan, but his not allowing the release of
the songs he choose to come on stage and join the band in, is just beyond any
explanation. Why did the Dead ever invite this clown to open up for them?
I'm surprised Bob Dylan does not have his own secret "Taper Police" to wander
through the taper sections and smash decks that are recording him when he's
playing with the Dead as well!

Dylan (or his security agents) would have lost the resulting lawsuit
for damages; New York State law specifically makes the venue
responsible for confiscated equipment (in fact, they can't even
confiscate, they can offer the tape the choice of leaving _with a
refund for the ticket price_ or letting them hold his equipment).
