It seems pretty likely that his cntract on Comumbia precludes his performances being sold on another label. Let's say cutting the name calling from the facts, Dylan is anti taaping. I believe he has the right to make a decision on wether it's OK or not t record his concerts. Does anyone have any recording equipment that guarantees them a right to tape anything they want? >This guy is nothing but a complete dickhead, and I can't understand why the Dead even allow him onto their stage when he then controls their ability to sell their own music. > I don't know what you've been listening to for the last 30 years, but the Grateful Dead, and now the dead, have chosen to cover a bunch of Bob Dylan's writings, in live performances and. In 2000 when Dylan opened for Phil, was that billing backwards, at lest at Irvine Meadows, maany peoplee came in with recording equipment, and had to stash it for the Dylan set, then rush to get ready for Phil. Dylan laid the crwd out.......no one seemed to care abut musi after Dylan. He did 3 encore's and 7 songs in encores. he didn't do them just for me and my girlfriend. Phil came out with Robben Ford and phned in a set. It reminded me of the first time I saw BB King. He opened for the J Geils Band. At least the singer realized who was on stage before them, in 12/72 at the Academy of Music. The first thing he said was "Well, you just saw the best half of this show." I saw Dylan the Sunday night before he flew to FL to join the Dead's tour. He was amazing, and friends who weren't sitting with me have said how blown away they were. I was particularly impressed with Dylan versatility and ability to re-arrange songs almost 40 years oldxxxxxxx >Let's go back into past history a bit and you'll find out it's totally Bob Dylan, not his record company who is responsible for much of his irrational acts toward tapers. I happen to have friends who work as security at the Jones Beach Amphitheater. > Unless all you go to is 'jamband" shows, most artists and bands do not allow taping. One interesting little irony is the person who had taped the 4/26-4/29/71 shows is nw and has been in Emmy Lou Harris's band for a decade or so. She does not allow taping. >This guy is nothing but a complete dickhead, and I can't understand why the Dead even allow him onto their stage when he then controls their ability to sell their own music. Back when Jerry was alive, Bob Dylan never would have attempted to pull what he's done here. > Back when Jerry was alive.......Yeah, that was a real band. No one said no to Jerry, eh, how about all the venues the dead were booted from? Did Jerry send the NRPS off to get a real pedal steel plaayer, or did Nelson,. Torbert, Marmaduke and Dryden realize he band could make it touring amongst the other bands of the genreeee if the rest of the Country rock scene, if they had a real pedal steel player. Jerry was learning to play it. Sneaky Pete and Rusty Young knew how to play, as did Buddy Cage. Bob Dylan doesn't owe anyone shit, other than a good effort when he gets on stage. Bob Dylan carved himself a place in R+R, and Folk Music History, in the core elite of music. Up with Chuck Berry, and very few others. 50 years from now Bob Dylan, Chuck Berry, Muddy Waters, Phil Spector, Jerry, and very few other's. Bob Weir and the rest of the members of the new dead will be a popcorn fart on that same screen. The people who play with Dylan do so, as they realize what Dylan's non'fans can't realize. ------------------------------ From: "Digit" Subject: Re: Dylan Just Being A Dickhead! Date: Fri, 8 Aug 2003 10:20:58 -0500 Funny that the Dead chose to play with such a dickhead this tour. Maybe you see the light that they are missing? Also odd that Jerry and the boys covered the dickhead's songs perhaps more than any other artist. Talked with a bunch of folks who were at Somerset and said Dylan stole the show. Short but sweet set. Guess that we have to remember than taping is a privilege, not a right. Dylan is probably a little sore at seeing so many of his shows being SOLD on eBay. ------------------------------ From: stuart Subject: Hot August Blues Festival Date: Fri, 8 Aug 2003 13:01:15 -0400 If you live in the Maryland, Pennsylvania area, we have a great Blues show coming up! Don't have a huge budget but I'd like to get a set of cardioids to use when I don't think my binaurals are appropriate. I wanna bust out a bunch while I'm setup, so if anybody wants them, get in touch (jamie at dankseeds dot org) with the details of what you would want ie, quantity, length, cable color (blue, black, green, or red), rca-rca or bnc-rca I've been using the bnc>rca ones with my ad2k for a year now, and its sweet knowing that I have a bulletproof locking connection back there. also, the different color cables coming off of it make it super easy to tell which cable is coming from where. ------------------------------ From: CTTAPER@aol.com Subject: FS Tascam Cd4000 MKII Date: Fri, 08 Aug 2003 15:04:59 -0400 Hi Everyone, Looking to sell off my CD4000 MKII. It was just Cleaned and working great. I paid like $950 for it in 2000 looking for best resonable offer. Have the orginal box and instuctions. I don't seem to be making many discs these days so I don't see the need to keep it. Located in Burlington VT but will ship UPS. Reply-To: "DCA" Date: Fri, 8 Aug 2003 15:47:49 -0400 As you said, Seth, they can't maliciously destroy peoples' stuff, whether its a deck or a pocket knife. But, I don't think they are obligated to refund the ticket price. If the stealth taper has attempted to break the rules, he has the choice to come back and follow the rules like everyone else, or face the consequences - i.e. leave and waste their ticket. Normally, that would be correct. But New York State law has a specific section about taping. I am wondering if anyone in "DAT land" had the opportunity to record one of these two dates? Please feel free to e-mail me privately for trade possibilites if one of these shows exist.... Yes, version 1.2 of DAT2WAV has a mode called DAT2DAT that allows copying directly between drives. I have several drives but have not yet installed 2 of them in one machine to utilize it. The Conner/Seagate CTD-8000 series you allude to is correct; of course you must make sure it's flashed with appropriate audio-capable firmware but there are good resources on the web to help with that. -- Mark Mayhle mark@mayhle.com ------------------------------ From: michael ryan Subject: Any tapers going to catch this????
