Hi all,
At the moment I'm trying to get a pile of
low gen tapes transferred onto my HD. These
are mainly 80's goth tapes - some aren't that
well cared for and its not known if dolby is
on them or not.
Now I'm probably being a pedant here (ok, I am -
if the tapes are a bit ratty why worry ? quite)
The question is : Is there anyway of deferring
the descision at the tape transfer stage and
removing (or not) the dolby in software
afterwards ?
I've looked around the web and found no
plugin based software available to remove it,
because its proprietry I guess - although
I have found a characteristic curve set for
it - its not a simple filter response.
I'm using a Nakamichi BX300 to transfer the tapes
which is pretty good - just wondering if anybody
had found a removal technique in software before
I get into doing this.
thanks
Wayne

Hello all:
Looking for some advice on other drives like the CTD-8000 that can be used
to transfer DAT audio. I'm trying to find a drive on ebay that I can use to
transfer DAT audio directly into my computer. I have two systems; 1 IDE and
1 SCSI so can work with either. If you have any info on reliable internal/
external drives and what flash revision I need to get them up and running,
It would be greatly appreciated. Any advice on what programs work well to do
the transfer would also be appreciated.
You can email me offlist @ juggleslugg at hotmail dot com
Thanks!

Hey People,
Sorry to go on w/ the virus warning but it is rather important IMHO. DO
NOT assume that because you don't have MSBLAST*.* on your machine that
you are ok. There are already two variants to this that I've read
about. I can't remember the exact names but one was something like
penis32.exe (this is not the exact name but it did have penis in it, no
pun intended) and there was one other that I can't recall. McAfee has
released two DAT (again, no pun intended) files in the past two days to
fight the original and then the variants. I work at a college in
upstate NY and we've been fighting this thing for a few days now, it's
all over the place. Also, this is affecting Windows NT and (I think)
Windows ME, as well as 2000 and XP. The easiest thing to do is to
install the patch (windowsupdate.microsoft.com) and also update your
virus definitions (assuming that you're using anti-virus software). If
you go to Microsoft's web sight and/or any of the popular anti-virus web
sights (as well as a slew of other web sights) you will find info on the
subject.
The worm spreads by searching for open ports (as Jamie mentioned, around
the 135 area) and affecting those that are open, then repeating itself
again. Supposedly doesn't hurt your machine but does open the door for
others to get in. If you've had your machine mysteriously reboot (or
the shut down window has popped up on you) you are most likely infected.
Peace,
Sean

I guess if you _need_ to use something other than W98SE you will have to,=
or at least
dual boot. But if you do not have to why change.... I do not want to buy =

the Windows installation I will wipe that partition and keep botting into=

The treshhold of learning on the Linux platform is high for many mudane =

no program I use needs anything more recent than Windows 98, then I will =
not be
upgrading. To keep productive I have learned how to fix the Windows =
environment and
have been in contact with many customers who have experienced all kind of=

I do a lot
of things myself with litle ease, so to have to do some of it using more =

until the

Currently Spam
and viruses are the biggest timeconsumers I face. Everything else has =
been working
for 3-4 years now. if ony every 5-6th release of Windows is worth using =
then Why the

Linux right
now, and help develop that further.

Nasty problem: somebody mentioned elsewhere that it took 4 iterations
to get a machine cleaned; Microsoft's update site was hosed by the
worm, and while he was waiting to get in, he got re-infected. Clean,
reboot, lather, rinse, repeat. If that happens to you, ZoneAlarm will
block the worm from coming in.

Does anybody know how to fix this error message?
I think Sampiltude 24/96 v6.0 is causing the problem but I can't be
sure. I survived the latest worm and got all the winblows updates,
but when this error message occurs I can't edit, mix, save or
burn .wav files.
Any help would be sincerely apprciated.

Inspired by the IT festival, I finally got
around to transferring some of my Phish DAT
masters to CDR.
As far as I know only one of these recordings
12/11/97 has made it into circulation.
The following shows were all recorded with
the same rig. Recorded with mics worn as a
schoeps bow-tie, FOB.
Schoeps Mk4 > Sonosax > SMB1 > TCD-D8 (44.1)
11/30/97 Worcester Centrum - Worcester, MA
Set 1: Gyute, Funky Bitch, Wolfman's
Brother > Hard Jam > Love Me, The Squirming
Coil, Loving Cup
Set 2: NICU, Stash > Free > Piper, When
The Circus Comes, Run Like an Antelope
E: Changes
12/2/97 The Spectrum - Philadelphia, PA
Set 1: Buried Alive > Down With Disease,
Makisupa Policeman, Chalk Dust Torture,
Ghost, The Divided Sky, Dirt > Taste,
Star Spangled Banner
Set 2: Mike's Song > Simple > Dog Faced
Boy > Ya Mar > Weekapaug Groove,
Bouncing Around the Room, Character Zero

Drowned, The Old Home Place, Gumbo,
Also Sprach Zarathustra > You Enjoy Myself
Set 2: David Bowie > Possum > Prince Caspian,
Frankenstein, Harry Hood E: Crossroads
12/11/97 War Memorial - Rochester, NY
Set 1: Punch You in the Eye > Down With
Disease > Maze, Dirt, Limb By Limb,
Loving Cup, Rocky Top
Set 2: Drowned > Roses Are Free > Big

12/13/97 Pepsi Arena - Albany, NY
Set 1: Ya Mar, Axilla, Theme From the
Bottom, Ginseng Sullivan, Strange Design,
Sample in a Jar, Vultures, Tube, Good
Times Bad Times
Set 2: NICU, Punch You in the Eye, Ghost,
Mike's Song > Llama, When the Circus Comes,
Weekapaug Groove > Catapult > Weekapaug
Groove, Harry Hood
E: My Soul, The Squirming Coil
Notes:
11/30/97 CD1 - set one, bumped from seat to seat :(
12/2/97 CD1 - hot levels, 30 secs Chalk Dust Torture
12/2/97 CD2 - requires 90 min CDR
12/3/97 CD2 - requires 90 min CDR
12/11/97 - limit crowd noise, advantageous position
12/13/97 - CD1, CD2 requires 90 min CDRs
I'd like to offer a few B&Ps and a few trades before
I delete this from my hard drive. First consideration
will be trades for the following:
- IT audience recordings, Schoeps FOB?
- Phish 12/11/97 soundboard
- Video footage of the IT fest, the scene
as well as any of the 2nd night. I have lots
of good DV but need a good amount of 'cut to'
material for problem areas.

I'm looking to get some good hyper-card mics and wanted to see what you
all recommend. I currently own a pair of Neumann KM140's so my last resort
(and expensive) would be to get the ak50 capsules. I'd really like to get
another set of mics so that I have more to choose from. So what are your

MMW at the Fillmore and Vinyl at GAMH.
Thanks for passing on any wisdom. Anybody taping these shows?
Many Thanks!
