I don't think we (stealthers) need to be too concerned. At $50,000 a
pop, I highly doubt any of the venues we go to will have one for every
entrance.

Does anyone have a link or the time to allow me to barrow and copy the
operating manual that came with the Sony M1 DAT machine. I would pay for the
shipping back and forth or the copies. Or appreciate the Adobe Link.

hi,
Gary, keith, Mikkel, Tom & Rich (and anyone
I missed) thanks for the input on the dolby
issue and sorry for the late reply, but our
network has been somewhat 'ill' these last few
days.
The tapes I have are mostly auds and a few
soundboards recorded in small clubs and
later on in university halls - some of them are
very good and don't really need messing with.
I was just trying to get the best transfer possible
whilst I had a loan of the tape deck. I realise
that there isn't a magic bullet solution for all
the tapes and it would seem that most of the
improvements can be made, if I want to, once I've
got the tape onto my HD. I'm not a fan of messing
with stuff too much so I may elect to leave them
as-is once transferred as I just don't want them to
rot in the box they've been hiding in.
I've decided to take the approach that if
they sound good then don't mess and if they
don't, they may need a bit more help than
worrying about dolby.
For anybody thats interested I found quite
a bit of info here
http://www.dolby.com/cassette/bcsnr/btype.html
the full characteristic curve sets are shown
and theres a bit of info on implementation as
well - a decent bit of dinnertime reading.
thanks
Wayne

Still desparately seeking Van Morrison's show from the Oakdale Theatre
in
Wallingford, Conn., on 16 JUNE 2003. [The last Van show in the USA that
went
unrecorded was back in 1993!] I know all-too-well that security was
tough at
Oakdale that night, but if anyone has this show, I have more than 1,000
Van
shows on CDR, and access to a robust catalogue of Van on DAT.
You will also receive my undying gratification.
Thanks, Niall
p.s. And if anyone has copies of either of my two "non-Van" Holy Grail
shows --
Sinead O'Connor in Boston 28 AUG 1997 and in Boston 17 JUNE 1998 --
please let
me know.

I have the following stealth cardioid rig for sale:
* A pair of Audio Technica AT831cb mics,
terminated in a custom right angle minijack plug.
* A custom battery box for the pair, made by JK labs.
The battery box features:
-fine tuned electronics for the AT831 pair.
-a 3 position gain switch
-a female minijack input (to connect the mics)
-a 10cm cable with a male minijack right angle plug (to connect to the DAT deck)
-an additional output (female minijack)
Mics and box cost me 400 euros a few months ago and I recorded a handful of shows
only. Looking to get around 325 euros.
For samples of shows taped, or more info, email me

Every year there is a World Science Fiction Convention somewhere in the
world. This year is Toronto. From what I hear, a SF writer, Spider
Robinson, will have a concert there. He is supposedly very good.
This is not any begging for any copy, but FYI if someone on the list is
going to the convention, you might want to take your rig along.
