Are you guys out there or can anyone help? Thanks, Chris ------------------------------ From: analog414@comcast.net Subject: Nakamichi CM300 microphones and DPA 4011 microphones Date: Fri, 05 Sep 2003 14:28:03 +0000 Hi DAT Heads, I have two questions: 1. Who manufactured the CM300 Nak mics? 2. Anyone hear and have an opinion on the DPA 4011 series microphones? Thank you for any response. Rick ------------------------------ From: "Jörg" Duurkoop Subject: Jitter-Killer? Digital sources: DAT vs. CD Date: Fri, 5 Sep 2003 08:10:52 -0700 (PDT) Hi all, I'm a fervent DAT-head living in Holland (like in Europe). Most of my music is on DAT because my exquisite CD-collection got burglarized in the nineties ... I'm using a Tascam DA-20 Mk II at the moment (just sold my DA-30 Mk II because I wanted a remote). I also upgraded my amps & speakers (used Martin Logan CLS IIz). My latest upgrade was an Electrocompaniet ECD-1 Upsampler DAC (great machine!) and here my problems begin: I thought all my digital sources would sound the same when played via the ECD-1 but now I find that the sound from my CD-player is much better than from the Tascam although the digital cabling is the same for both. Isn't the digital input the same from CD as from a digital copy from that same CD to a DAT? So I'll have to look for Jitter-killers? I could get a used Audio Alchemy DTI plus for 200 Euros. Or is the digital copy on the DAT already compromised with data/quality irretreaveably lost? I'm using mostly new 90-m DDS-tapes. I'm baffled. Before the ECD-1 the sound from my DAT-deck (Tascam DA-30 Mk II then) and the CD-player (Creek CD-43 Mk 2) was almost as good with slightly less detail but warmer sound from the DAT. But since I use the ECD-1 DAC the difference is great: much less spatial and duller from the DA-20 Mk II compared to the Creek. What gives? Anyone out there who encountered a similar difference? I talked to a salesman at a High-End shop today who said that the DAT-format was always lesser than CD because there's always something lost during the copying process. He tried to sell me an Audio Alchemy Clearstream cable. But as my cables seem to work well what would be the point? I thought he was bullsh*** me ... I'm stumped. Any useful comment is highly appreciated. I hope to hear from you soon. Truly, Jörg Duurkoop. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Essentially, Chris assembles a band for the evening from his friends from QOTSA, the Flys, Lanegan etc... and they play Masters of Reality tunes. They have played several shows so far and I was wondering, hoping that someone had bothered to tape them. If not, if there are any tapers that would be interested in taping one of the most influential people in the stoner rock movement then don't miss these shows. If I can con anyone who is not interested in this band into taping these performances, I'd be happy to pay for admission and some drinks. They would be stealth though since they are not terribly taper friendly. A QOTSA/ Tomahawk/ Masters of Reality LA show is tentatively planned for October too so that would also be appreciated. Anyone with any info.... I have access to some incredibly rare Masters stuff (like the 1987 Haloween Radio Broadcast that features almost all their early demos!!) that I would be willing to trade for these shows... Get in touch and thanks in advance, Steve _________________________________________________________________ Get 10MB of e-mail storage!
