Hi there,
If anyone out there has a pair of AT853Rx they are wanting to sell
(or upgrade from), please contact me. NOT
Sound Pro's AT's range, rather the 'true' AT mics.
Or (and), I am looking for a Denecke PS-2 - same deal - if you know
where I can pick up a used one from, I would like to know...
Thanks for the space.
Regards,
Adam

As an owner of 2 Analog reel to reel decks and 4 3-head cassette decks,
there are numerous vendors of Quantegy Tapes here in the US. I have
spent more than a few dollars at them this last year. 30+ years after I
bought my first reel to reel deck, I am transferring some of my digital
recordings back to analog, using a Teac X-1000. IMO, R2R has the best
sound of any media available. It would be a little hard bringing a 70#,
4 channel Tascam 34B to set up with mike stands though. As good as it
sounds, a 10.5", 2500 foot reel lasts aboout 4:20 minutes at 3.75 ips.
With Quantegy 456 going at about $22 a reel, for some of us cost becomes
a factor.

They sound great right now and I'd really like to get every show from the tour.
I'll be covering several myself. Tickets go on sale for these dates on 9/15, but
the internet pre-sale on ticketmaster is 9/14. If anyone gets any of the shows from
this tour please, please contact me. 10/18 Auburn Hills, MI
Hello,
I am very sad to say I cannot go to the Auburn Hills show. I would have gone mostly
due to the Everly Brothers' segment. It would have been great to have seen Don
and Phil on stage again but the ticket price is too steep.
If anyone here gets a known lineage copy of the Auburn Hill show, I'm interested.
Having taped at the echoey Palace of Auburn Hills several times I know it is hard
to get a good master but if anyone gets the Auburn Hills show, I'm interested.

Subject: Janis Joplin Portchester 8-8-70 surfaces!
Date: Sun, 14 Sep 2003 10:56:18 EDT
A significant recording has recently surfaced of Janis Joplin and Full Tilt
Boogie at The Capitol Theater in Portchester, New York on August 8, 1970.
Heres the setlist information:
1. -brief soundcheck- 00:16
2. Tell Mama 06:44
3. Half Moon 06:09
4. Mercedez Benz (acapella) 02:11
5. Mercedes Benz (reprise with band) 01:54
6. My Baby 07:57
7. Kozmic Blues 05:06
8. Maybe 05:09
-band introductions-
9. Full Tilt Boogie (Instrumental) 06:18
10. Foolish Woman Blues 07:05
11. Move Over 05:02
12. Piece of My Heart 04:37
The tape is authentic and a reasonably nice recording for the era. It was
recorded using an early model Sony 124 cassette deck with Sony dynamic mics
set up in the balcony with a 10-20 foot spread. The original master tape was
baked and transferred directly to disc.
Of particular note is that before performing Mercedes Benz, Janis
mentions writing it at the local bar on the corner, right before the show! (Could be
stage schtick, but maybe not!) Its also her last New York show, 2nd to last
show ever and Foolish Woman Blues is a great unreleased tune not circulating on
any other recordings that I'm aware of.
If anyone would enjoy a trade, send along a list. Particularly interested
in any Janis performances that I don't have as well as the usual round of
suspects. Also still have complete musical guests for Season 1 & 2 of The
Smothers Brothers Show CDs on my hard drive if anyone is still looking for these.
They cover everything from 2/5/67 to 3/10/68 on 5 CDs.

I'm heading down to Austin with the weekly load this
week and was wondering what to expect at the fest.
What's security like? There's a no taping policy so I
guess it's stealthing or nothing. Is it pretty much
people camping out in front of the stages with chairs,
blankets, etc. or are there seats at some of the
stages. Any other pertinent info would be appreciated. Thanks.

Subject: Washington D.C. area DAT (Sony) Repair?
Date: Sun, 14 Sep 2003 13:55:17 -0400
I'm new to the D.C. Metro area, and find myself in need of DAT repair. My
Sony M1 was having trouble loading a tape, and then suddenly powered off
completely, with the tape still inside. It won't power up at all now, and
I'd (obviously) like to get this fixed. Any suggestions for a repair shop in
the D.C. area would be great. If there are good repair shops out of the area
to mail it to for repair, I'd love to hear about those too. I've never
needed DAT repairs before. Thanks in advance.
