Actually, only video recorders are banned. Audio recording is ok, as
long as it is not professionally produced. In other words, not for
commercial purposes. You can view a complete list of allowed/banned
items in this pdf. As far as what to expect, I'm not expecting anything
real bad. I'm actually considering sneaking in a DV camcorder. I'm more
worried about parking. Oh well. I'm heading down to get my wristband
tomorrow. Looking forward to the weekend.

Hi,
I have this up for trade. Solo gig - no "Blokes"
in sight, few new songs - plenty of classics.

I've been getting replies that taping IS allowed if
the band allows it. Original info on their site was
that audio recording was not allowed, but now just
says no Professional Audio Equipment. I apologize if I
spread misinformation. I wish everyone good luck
taping as my "new" equipment doesn't work, and I won't
be taping. I lost both a D7 and D100 in the last year.
Maybe it's time to retire? Nah.

>>>snip<<<
>>>>> I am transferring some of my digital
recordings back to analog, using a Teac X-1000. IMO, R2R has the best
sound of any media available. It would be a little hard bringing a 70#,
4 channel Tascam 34B to set up with mike stands though. As good as it
sounds, a 10.5", 2500 foot reel lasts aboout 4:20 minutes at 3.75 ips.
With Quantegy 456 going at about $22 a reel, for some of us cost becomes
a factor.<<<<<
HI, Keith!
I realize that we may have recorded completely different types of music, but
I would never use 3.75ips for music recording if I had any choice, and I
certainly wouldn't use it to copy digital recordings (unless the digital
recordings are copies of a 1 7/8ips tapes ;-) ). I record orchestra,
concert band, organ music, so the wow and flutter at 3.75ips would render
the recording unlistenable, to me anyway.
I understand how tape costs are a big factor, but back in the days that I
recorded analog open reel, I found that I could buy used 10.5" reels of 1mil
tape (3600' if I remember correctly) from various surplus houses for a
dollar or less each. I then could record a typical orchestra concert on
two reels at 1/2 track stereo and 15ips. This made the wow and flutter much
less of a problem (on my Pioneer RT-2044/2022 deck). I could even adjust
the recording bias on the front panel to make the best of the tape.
An ironic side-benefit of using this cheap tape is that 20 to 30 years
later, this tape is perfectly usable. The expensive TDK and Maxell tape I
reserved for "special" concerts, got gummy at least ten years ago, and I had
to carefully bake the reels before transfering the recordings to Sony PCM
901 format (on a VHS recorder, with a simultaneous VHS HiFi recording as a
backup).
Someday when I have less to do (;-) ) I plan on sucking these digital copies
to CDR (but keeping the originals!!) so I can listen to them more
conveniently.
You might look at used tape such as I used to get and recording at a higher
tape speed and still save money!
Hope this helps!!!
