From: "Winnie" <who@sover.net> Subject: RE: DAT-heads Digest #873 Date: Thu, 25 Sep 2003 06:45:21 -0400 Thanks to everyone who replied. I only recently got a DVD burner at work... time to get one for home. Jamie... how do you run your computer/stereo by remote without a monitor? How do you navigate to choose songs etc? And what kind of remote are you talking about? For your computer? I have a nice wireless keyboard and mouse by Gyration. Small size and long range. I was thinking that since my stereo is next to the TV, I could somehow set up the computer with a CD and DVD drive and a bank of hard drives. And get a graphics card capable of using my TV as a monitor. But the less equipment the better... so.. how the hell do you run your computer by remote??? Thanks! What do you need to record ...say 5 hours of music. Two bands, for example. I know you'd need two 5gb PCMCIA hd cards. I"m very curious about field battery life over the "long haul". What happens if you need to record 3 hours straight? Seems like you are not doing it at 24/96 because there are no storage options to cover it. plus, has anyone made any 24bit recordings w/this thing that was glitch free and could span the distance of at least 2 hours straight? While the PDA is a neat toy, I can't see it holding water against new recorders that are bound to come about. Hell...even the Nomad JB3 is much more of a turn key situation (and cheaper) for doing 16bit stuff. The new SD recorder will make many other devices out ther obsolete over night. If only the Sony PCM-M1 had a hard drive in it....... :)

From: JPollQs@aol.com Subject: Jerry+Rarities=JERRITIES Date: Thu, 25 Sep 2003 15:24:12 EDT This may be of interest to some Jerry Garcia/Dead collectors. I have Volume=20= 1=20 of what we'd like to see become an enjoyable ongoing project. Hopefully=20 others in the vast collective can take it to additional volumes for Jerry fa= ns=20 everywhere.=20 Basically, it's a 79+ minute CD compiling several rare 1970 FM broadcasts=20 featuring Jerry Garcia and various friends (including Duane Allman!), plus a= s=20 filler, a one-off appearance of Garcia sitting in with The Nitty Gritty Dirt= Band=20 in 1974. Most of this material doesn't seem to circulate much and is=20 extremely difficult to find in reasonably good quality, which it is here, wi= th the=20 1970 KSAN material here in excellent quality. With the exception of the 1974= =20 material, these recordings were sourced from Alan Bershaw s 7 inch reel=20 copies@7.5ips, transfered to DAT@44.1k and then to CDR. There may be better= copies out=20 there, but these are a big improvement over any I've ever heard of this=20 particular material. Alan came up with the JERRITIES title as a morph of Jer= ry+Rarit ies --get it? Here is the tracklist: =========================================== JERRITIES: Volume 1.
