I'm posting this for a buddy of mine, he tried to post to the list
himself...but couldn't get it to work.
thanks in advance!

I just picked up a pair of Neumann km-185 mics
I have done most of my taping w/ stealth omni mics - both Sonic Studios and
DPA4060's... which i at times have placed on a stand - i have used these
mics
from f.o.b. - as well as close to a stack
i have recently used a pair of full size cardiod mics (adk-a51S) - where i
taped
from almost 40 ft back center...
my questions are:
a. what is optimal placement of the mics on the stand (x/y... ortf...)
b. what is optimal positioning in the venue? centerd? if off to a side - how
should i point the mics?
c. i was told when using the cardiod mics - to point them just wide of the
stacks... how should i point the hypers? assuming i was centered - at the
stacks? just wide? wider than if i was using cardiods?
d. can i use the hypercardiods close to a stack? if so - how would i point
them? i like taping close to a stack to minimize crowd noise - and for the
'in
your face' recordings...
PLEASE HELP!!! i have an important tour coming up - and i want to have as
much
info as possible...
thank you kindly

I am looking for tapers from Hawaii (in or near Honolulu) and then Japan,
to tape a band I love. They're playing the Honolulu show tomorrow evening
(Friday) and it's stealth taping, but the band doesn't really care if you
stealth them.
The 4 Japan dates are this coming week. The band will play about 1 hour
or so and I am offering free everything to whoever can tape for me. By
that I mean ticket, travel, food, batteries, and I'll tape a show for you
in the tri-state (NJ, PA, and NYC) with my setup: DPA 4021 > AETA PSP3 >
Sony M1
Please contact me at TheSmashingPumpkins-33@juno.com
or on AIM: PromTheme
ASAP to let me know if you know of anyone who can help or do this.
I found one person who goes to school in Hawaii but left all of his
taping gear back home in Ohio, so that's a bitch... ; )
The band's tour info can be found at http://www.fountainsofwayne.com/tour
Thanks for reading,
Tom Roach, NJ

Right now, with the PDA you can do 24-bit at 48kHz with reasonable capacity.
This at least offers more dynamic range and detail at lower levels.
Quite a big deal, really. A small footprint recorder with low power usage
and extended dynamic range. And with CF-memory, no moving parts. With DAT,
there is maintenance required on the machine every so many hours, risk of
heads wandering out of alignment, worn tape guides, head cleaning, error
rates to monitor. You have none of these issues with PDAudio.
I have done extensive testing of PDAudio, and I feel confident in saying
that if the media you buy can support the throughput required at the user
selected data rate, you should get bit-accurate recording at even 24-bit
96kHz. Sustaining recording at that rate for Live2496 requires quite fast
writing to media. You will need a media capable of writing 2.4mb/sec or
thereabout.
For those who are looking for a 24/96 recorder, the only thing that really
stands in the way is both affordable and fast media. That should change very
soon.

Hi
I've got two large batches of Grateful Dead/JGB DATs available (nothing past 1983). I won't post the list of shows here, but will email to any interested parties. Lots of rare JGB stuff in there and generally great stuff. Each batch is 105 tapes, and I am asking $300 each plus shipping. This is less than the tapes cost me. The batches will not be broken up, so please don't ask. Obviously, if someone wants all of the tapes (210), that would be ideal. Drop me a line if you're interested.

I have the following equipment for sale. Drop me a line if you're interested.
Robert (eugene1978@lycos.com)
Sony TCD-D100 DAT Recorder. This unit is in good condition (some scratches) and is working, but it needs to have the closing latch fixed, this is a repair that shouldn't run more than $100 from Sony (or whoever) It is priced accordingly. All accesories, non original box.
$250 plus shipping
HHB CDR 850 CD Recorder. This unit is literally as new, used less than 100 hours, perfect working condition, original box, manuals, remote cables.
$350 plus shipping
Core Sound 7-pin-coax-I/O ("Y" cable). Perfect working condition. $50 including shipping
Straightwire digtal XLR cable (1 meter). This is a true 110 ohm digital cable for AES/BEU digital formats. $150 brand new. hardly used, $35 including shipping.

Now that the pro audio industry is actively marketing "5.1 Surround Sound
Mic Trees", I was wondering if anyone is playing around with this idea.
Although both Sanken and Soundfield have made multi channel mics in the
past, I've yet to see a multi-channel recording from any of these sources
(2 track stereo output of the mics I have seen).
