From: "Gary Davis" <g@hoxnet.com> Subject: Re: universal DVD/SVCD player Reply-to: g@hoxnet.com Date: Sun, 28 Sep 2003 20:22:37 -0700 The player you probably wanted was the Apex AD-1500. This can play all formats, including my favorite, 4X VCDs which have full DVD quality on a CD (for 20 minutes). But these machines are "discontinued" and only sometimes pop up in stores. You can probably get one "new," and pre-hacked for region/macrovision, on Ebay for around $100. But as you say, it's not a great DVD player... just very flexible! --Gary
From: "Gary Davis" <g@hoxnet.com> Subject: All DVD types Reply-to: g@hoxnet.com Date: Sun, 28 Sep 2003 20:27:25 -0700 Also, I can confirm that the AD-1500 plays DVD-R, DVD+R, and DVD+RW, as well as CDR. (I believe it plays CDRW but I haven't tried it, and the Apex AD-703 changer didn't). My Panasonic machines won't play DVD+RW at all, and the Pioneer A-05 (aka Apple Superdrive) only reads them correctly "most of the time" but fails on some DVD+RW discs. The Pioneer A-06 is supposed to be fully read-compatible with +RW's. --Gary

From: Tom Roach <thesmashingpumpkins-33@juno.com> Subject: Need Taper for shows in JAPAN this week ! Date: Tue, 30 Sep 2003 00:32:23 -0400 Hi everyone. I tried contacting some tapers from Japan, but thought I should send this message to The list as well. A favorite band of mine, Fountains of Wayne, will be playing just 4 shows in Japan. They will be returning to the US to open for Matchbox 20 in arenas. They will be playing clubs in Japan, and the taping must be stealth. Actually, the band DOES NOT care if you tape them, but since November of 2002 they cannot allow it anymore as they signed with Virgin Records. The stealth taping security is always venue-dependent, but the band will not care if that makes a difference. In return for you or any other Japan tapers you know to tape these shows, I will: Pay for your ticket Pay for your travel (within reason) Pay for your food and drink Pay for your batteries and tape I will also offer to record any show you want, in New Jersey, eastern Pennsylvania, or New York City. I use DPA 4021 microphones > AETA PSP3 mic preamp > Sony PCM-M1 I can tape stealth or with my Shure mic stand. TOUR DATES: http://www.fountainsofwayne.com/tour/ 10.1.03 Tokyo, Japan Liquid Room info: http://www.creativeman.co.jp/030712pages/fow.html 10.2.03 Nagoya, Japan Club Quattro info: http://www.creativeman.co.jp/030712pages/fow.html 10.5.03 Kawasaki, Japan Club Citta info: http://www.creativeman.co.jp/030712pages/fow.html 10.6.03 Osaka, Japan Club Quattro info: http://www.creativeman.co.jp/030712pages/fow.html Set length will be 60 - 70 minutes Maximum. Please respond ASAP letting me know if you can do this or not. This band is awesome, seriously! If you cannot do this, please do and try to pass this word along with any other tapers in Japan that you know. I'm definitely up for returning the favor ! Thanks for reading, Tom Roach, NJ, USA PS - They are also playing HOUSTON, TX on Saturday, October 11th--Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion Center, 94.5 The Buzz -- BuzzFest: http://www.thebuzz.com/concerts.html BWT Rain Check: I promise to offer B&Ps to the list as soon as I get a digital soundcard to finally make my own transfers. ________________________________________________________________ The best thing to hit the internet in years - Juno SpeedBand! From: "S0CREF" <jgreen11@umbc.edu> Subject: FS: D7 Complete Rig Date: Tue, 30 Sep 2003 00:55:48 -0400 I am looking to sell off my complete rig here. There are about 10 hours of recording time on the machine. I had it refurbished once when I bought it new because it was having issues with tape loading. Since then it has worked like a charm for me getting wonderful results. I have most of the necessary things for soundboard patches as well. I also have a nice little case that I made for my gear that houses my dat, power cable, batteries, blanks, and some cables. I would like to get around $550 for the whole lot or a best offer. Serious inquiries only please. From: "Cruz, Charles" <CruzCJ@cdm.com> Subject: Has anyone taped at SOMA in San Diego? Date: Tue, 30 Sep 2003 01:27:08 -0400 I'm considering taping Shadows Fall at SOMA in San Diego and was wondering what the security is like (wands, heavy patdown?) and how the venue sounds. I have the option to tape them the following week at HOB Anaheim where I've had no problems getting past wands and the venue sounds good. Thanks, Charlie

From: Masato Kato <mindgame@m21.alpha-net.ne.jp> Subject: Yoshida Brothers Date: Wed, 01 Oct 2003 01:37:02 +0900 http://www.domo.com/cgi-local/SoftCart.exe/index2.html?E+scstore Fantastic players of shamisen (Japanese traditional instrument like 3 string fretless banjo) will go to NYC and Los Angeles in October. I do not think they are taper friendly, but if you are interested in Japanese traditional/ethnic music, go and see (and tape) their concerts. If you get back home with the excellent tape, can I get a copy? Masato Kato <mindgame@m21.alpha-net.ne.jp> <Loveminus0@gakushikai.jp>
