From: Kevin Brown <kevin5brown@yahoo.com> Subject: Successor to DAT? (> 16/44 & portable) Date: Thu, 2 Oct 2003 22:16:07 -0700 (PDT) I have had a DAT deck in my system for maybe 5 years now. Pretty much relegated my Nakamichi CR-7A to playback of old cassettes for archival purposes only (recording to DAT or CD-R/RW). I think I have come to realize that there are not a lot of manufacturers making new units, right? Sony and Tascam are out of the game I think? I was just wondering if there was a successor in the wings? With DVD-A and SACD around now, it would have to have > 16/44 performance, yet with mobile media. I think that I know there are desktop consoles for PCM 24/96 recording, but how do you transport the media? Thanks!! __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? The New Yahoo! Core Sound's PDAudio-CF (with their Mic2496 A/D converter, or somebody else's) is the way I'm going. Seth

From: Per Jakobsen <perjak@get2net.dk> Subject: SBM1 mic in impedance Reply-To: perjak@get2net.dk Date: Fri, 3 Oct 2003 11:56:29 +0200 Hello list, Anyone who knows the impedance? I have checked the manual. It only tells the impedance of the line in, which is 47 kohm's. My guess is, that it is the same as for the D8 mic in - 4,7 kohm's ?? From: TheSchoolNerd@aol.com Subject: A Neet Experience Date: Fri, 3 Oct 2003 11:35:43 EDT I just wanted to relate a great musical experience that happened to me last night. I was at a friend's apartment in NYC when he told me another long time friend was coming over. It turned out to be Peter Yarrow of the famed Peter, Paul, and Mary! Well if you grew up listening to them/ him as I did, you'd understand why I gushed at meeting him. He was really nice; gave me a hug, and then sat down and played! He sang a old and new music ( a song about magic; wonderful) that will be coming out soon in a PP&M box set. All the while I kept wishing I had my rig with me- though at a distance of four feet away he might have spotted my capsules! I thought some of you might get a kick out of this story; it really made my day. D
