There are people on eBay selling Toslink optical cable for cheap.
Depending on which sony you have, and what kind of digital card you have
you my be able t use them. One of the members of this list, Len made me
a 35' tslink cable. If your Sony only has AES/EBU connections, you can
probably get a set at most vendors who sell digital audio supplies.
I've bought 75 ohm Coax cables, which I think you'd use on all Sony's
bigger than a D series at Sam Ash, and I'm sure the online vendors in
the group will pop up with their prices. I've also purchased these
cable via internet from fullcompass.com, I think they had the best
prices I saw.

I always offer to supply the local artists with a CD-R and it is theirs to
do with what they wish. It is their music after all and they are the ones
who allow me to record them. Perhaps you can get them to give you a credit
on the jacket. That would be fair enough.

I recently taped a local band who, after hearing the
tape, want to release all or part of the show as a
live EP. Has this ever happened to anyone on the
list? If so, what kind of arrangements, financial or
otherwise, did you make with the band as far as
selling or turning your tape over to them? I would
like to have some kind of idea how this kind of thing
has been handled in the past before I go "negotiate"
with them.
Thanks,
Kevin

I've done this many times. If they're friends (and
they usually are) I don't ask for much because
chances are they're making very little money on the
CD.
I insist on credit and copies.
If you think they're gonna make a lot of money, or
they're popular enough already, just ask what they
think is reasonable.
Remember, you never taped the show to make money in
the first place. This is icing.

Subject: ISO: Aussie / NZ taper for any of the Jack Johnson / Donavon F band
shows - Nov 2003
Jack Johnson is going to be touring Australia and New Zealand in
November, and opening for him is the Donavon F Band. Both have great
sound, and it is a bummer I can't see them both share a night. But i'm
hoping some of the tapers on this list go and record both Donavon's set
and Jack's set.
Both bands are already OK'd for inclusion in the Live Music Archive, so
as soon as you are done transfering your recording, upload the master
.shn files to the LMA here: http://www.archive.org/audio/etree.php and
make it so people all around the world can download and listen to your
recording for free.
Just FYI, here's the dates and venues:
Tue 11/04/03 Sydney, AUS Enmore Theatre
Sat 11/08/03 Canberra, AUS Royal Theatre
Tue 11/11/03 Auckland, NZ St. James Theatre
Wed 11/12/03 Wellington, NZ St. James Theatre
Fri 11/14/03 Christchurch, NZ Town Hall
Sun 11/16/03 Brisbane, AUS Brisbane Convention Centre
Mon 11/17/03 Melbourne, AUS Palais Theatre
Tue 11/18/03 Melbourne, AUS Palais Theatre
Thu 11/20/03 Adelaide, AUS Thebarton Theatre
Sat 11/22/03 Yallingup, AUS Caves House Hotel
Thanks a lot for taking the time to read this. I hope a few of these shows
get recorded!
BWT: first 3 to e-mail me i'll offer a B&P for my most recently recorded
JJ show, 8/10/03 @ UCSD. AT831 > Sharp MD-MT15

I have access to a brand new (and I mean brand new, the box has never been
opened) pair of schoeps cmc6 xt mic bodies. These are the new ones that are
useful for higher bitrate recording, and have a slight hf-emphasis (less
than a regular cmc6 used with a 'v' capsule)
http://www.schoeps.de/E/cmc6xt.html
asking $1120, thats $100 less than you can buy them for anywhere today, and
they are brand new with full 2-year warranty. Makes the upgrade from cmc6's
a little more affordable! since these are a new product, they are pretty
hard to find other than from a distributor for full price....

For Sale, Sony mod SBM-1. Unit performs flawlessly, has a few
scratches on the case, strictly cosmetic. Mod performed by the Oade's
around 7/01. 24 bit upgrade, SBM turned off. With the upgrade, only
the RCA inputs are active. I said I'd never sell it, but I never use
it since I got a minime, so first one to pay, its yours. I can accept
paypal, money order or personal check. Please email me with any
questions, looking to get $600 inc FedEx delivery.

Anything along the lines of this topic interests me greatly since I record @ 48
with the forethought of moving to this format. Are there any tools similar to
shntool that will work with higher bitrates and sample rates? I hate the idea
of cutting a .WAV one track at a time. -jas

hey gang,
wondering if anybody out there (keith, how 'bout it ?) can offer advice on a
good record player in the $100 to $150...if that's possible.
reason: a friend just scored a bunch of out-of-print jazz LPs (mingus, joni
mitchell, et al), and we wish to be able to a) listen to them b) convert
them to CD. any tips in that regard are also cool; i am familiar with the
basics on CD conversion from DATs, so anything specific to converting LPs is
welcome advice for me.
